And that should be sighting. I'm so confused that I can't type properly.

I think the We Put Commas Wherever We Damn Well Please Brigade and the Using ` Instead of an Apostrophe Dancers are worthy of more investigation.
Are we gonna get picky about grammar, etc. here?

Then:

It's "I couldn't care less", not "I could care less".

Minor pet peeve.

I'm thinking about leaving the 'its/it's' club, but its hard, you know?
i'm still a fully paid up member of the 'not capitalising the starts of sentences' society though.
It's a long hard road.

I didn't mean for this to be a grammar police thread, I'm just honestly curious as to why they choose not to put spaces after commas. I mean, the space bar works, obviously, so its a conscious effort on their part. The mind boggles.
I understand. I'm just honestly mystified by the whole ` phenomenon.

What possesses people to make that choice? It has to be a conscious choice, and not some recurring accident. It's on the other side of the damn keyboard.
It's only a conscious effort if the punctuation rule breakers were taught to put a space after a comma. I blame the education system.

Helix, I never even noticed people doing that. I should thank you for bringing this to my attention, but now I'm not going to be able to unsee that.

Well, let's all try our best to, ya know, use commas in a more appropriate, yet non-obnoxious, way, so we can all learn to become the best we can be, whatever that may entail, regarding comma usage, comma sharing, as well as, comma loving.

Indeed,.
Well played, sir.

Edited because I didn't capitalize "well". Thanks Andrew.
I think it's more about the lack of love for the spacebar. Biggest fucker on the keyboard yet it still gets the shaft.

The "enter" key, on the other hand... PLAYED!

the former chewer known as Waffles of Mass Deliciousness (previously called some other stupid name) did the whole 'no space' thing when he first turned up. The explanation he gave (very roughly remembered) went:

Fuck you! i write properly all day for my job. i know how to do it! but why should i have to do it here? you fucking grammar nazis! it's all about personal expression and you know what i'm getting at anyway so what's the problem? fuck you!

Something like that anyway. Did i mention he was an ex-chewer?

Ah, giftedinpants.

I kinda miss that silly little fucker.
I tried to break my its/it's habit, so I went to dictionary.com and looked them both up. To my dismay, both were given almost exactly the same listing, including being contractions of "it is".

And regarding the "no spaces after commas" thing, I've seen that a lot on the subs of bootleg DVDs, so maybe this particular chewer is writing from China.

Reading those early posts of his gave me a headache, but I was so determined to read his insanity for a good laugh that I couldn't stop.

I've always been perplexed by the space bar problem. I'm trying to cut down on the "Using Commas Whenever I Want" problem. I used to go ape shit when people used ellipses in place of commas and for no fucking reason whatsoever. That's not so much of a big deal now, but it used to be.

I think if he ever wrote a post that contained both English and his language, it'd be like the Idiot Rosetta Stone. Future historians would have hailed us as champions of science.
My brain would have most likely throttled itself to death if I had attempted to read it. I know I would have tried too, just to see the depths of his insanity/stupidity.

I don't think I want to be a member of this club anymore. All you guys do is talk about grammar...boring.

Here's my badge.

Can I have my badge back?

Ah thank you Donald. We absolutely needed another member of the grammar police. Nothing like people throttling grammar on an internet messageboard.

Seriously there are few things less productive in a thread than someone saying "Don't you mean I live in my mom's basement instead of I live in my moms basement"

I understand we are attempting to keep some level of decorum in these forums when it comes to grammar. I think one of the bylaws even reads "Don't completely massacre the English language". That being said we are being a little gestapoesque about it.

I say if someone wants to write stream of thought post that is fine by me. Hell one of the best things I have ever read on the net was a letter from P.T. Anderson to Harry Knowles that was all over the place. It was beautiful. But if he had posted on here he would have had three people tell him he was posting a duplicate thread and fourteen others correcting his grammer.

As long as I can get the gist of what they are saying (and they don't completely massacre the verbage) and it isn't DeWd speak we should be fine.

It's a mute point.

This thread is awesome.

I'm still baffled by JM Prater and the Super-Sig-Squad. Don't they realize their name is essentially up there in lights when they post already?
BTW the enigma can be easily explained. Some people are just lazy, while others see it as irrelevent since it's not a term paper. They see it as a mb, and treat it as such, not worrying about grammar since they think people can get the point of what they're saying. My two cents.

Helix, busting out the Fellowship. SNARC material.

As for Mr. Chicken, I get that, kinda. I get internet shorthand, 13375p34k, all that stuff. Message board threads are basically conversations in text format, and as such may call for new rules of engagement re: grammar. I've intentionally butchered the English language many times on this board, and probably will for the forseeable future. The thing that baffles me here is that, a lot of these no space people, they're using proper grammar for everything except the punctuation spacing. It's the oddest fucking thing to be lazy about.

I'm waiting for semicolons to make a comeback; they're cool; it's like a coma, a period, and colon combined;

I'm serious, it'd be the coolest.

We could use KABAR (Kick Ass Beyond All Recognition)
or we could cop-out and use TTIA (This Thread is Awesome) ...I say we put it to committee.

Indeed. The committee should most definitely be notified of these developments.

But notice how he compensates by putting each sentence (?) on each line and a space before and after the ellipses.
