Hey, I'm all for this project, but that tidbit about Lucas doing a whole season by himself really disturbs me. For a medium still frequently described as "radio with pictures," you need strong dialogue to go with your visuals. Lucas knew this during his last venture into TV, "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" (which deserves a nice complete DVD set now), and so he got guys like Frank Darabont to write for the show. And that was a project that was maybe half the ambition that Star Wars is going to be.

George, I'm an apologist, but for the love of God, please don't write this yourself.

Did Lucas direct any YIJ episodes? How were they? I never watched it.

Well, to a fairly impressionable eight year old, they were awesome. I haven't seen them in years, but I remember watching my old tapes of them growing up (as well as reading a shitload of the tie in material; I was a Young Indy junkie years before seeing the original films) and they held up year to year. And at least in my case, they did what Lucas intended to do--turn kids on to history and culture; I wouldn't be the jazz fan I am today if it weren't for "Young Indiana Jones and the Mystery of the Blues." That's one of the reasons I'd like a decent DVD set--see if it holds up.

According to IMDB, Lucas didn't write or direct any of the episodes himself, but guys like Terry Jones, Darabont, Jonathan Hensleigh, Carrie Fisher, Joe Johnson, Mike Newell, and Nicholas Roeg all did.

Pretty impressive guest cast, too.

I am curious as to how Lucas is going to distribute this. Syndication or single network deal?
Either way, Lucas can pick and choose. Even with the mixed reception of the 2 prequels, every exec in Television would kill to have this show on his network on handled by his syndication company.....
Don't be suprised if "direct" referring to Lucas and the first season becomes gets "clarified" to mean he will keep a close eye on the show rather then physically direct every episode in the first season. He might helm the pilot and a couple more episodes, but with all on his plate I doubt he is going to helm the first season single handed.

Lucas is all about exclusivity. I expect it will be on FOX only for it's initial run. He may be an independent filmmaker, but 20th Century Fox is still very much the home of Star Wars. And FOX is a logical TV extention of the studio. Someday we'll have reruns on TNT or some shit like that.

He never said he was going to do it "by himself". No one human being can write an entire season of a TV series, let alone 100 episodes. J. Michael Straczynski and Aaron Sorkin came close, but even they had other writers on staff. If this thing is going to get on the air before 2042, believe me, there will be other writers. I doubt he'll personally write any full teleplays himself; he'll just work out the episodic breakdown for the story arc, then hand it over to a writing staff. The man is a control freak, but he's not a masochist.

I think we are going to get a slew of new characters and it will center on the start of the Rebellion. Of course, there will probably be cameos from Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt, maybe a young Han and Chewbacca.........maybe even Vader. Apparently they want to film the entire first season at once, with Lucas filming the pilot and then handing it off from there on out (the latest rumor is that Kevin Smith will be handling a 3-episode arc). The other show is supposedly a CGI animated continuation of Clone Wars. If they do well expect other series on down the line. Lucas hinted at a "knights of the old republic" series, a post-ROTJ Luke series, and a Willow series as possibilities.

I'm sure this post will be followed by some incensed fan answering petulantly in the affirmitive, but is there anyone out there who would really want to see a Willow TV series? I mean, if you scour the Internet and conventions, you should be able to find a copy of all six episodes of Wizards and Warriors; wouldn't that do?

PS: If you've never heard of Wizards and Warriors, you clearly were not a geek in the early eighties.

A KOTOR series? Count me in. I think they could pull off a full big-screen trilogy based on the original game. Lots of great stuff there.

Why would Lucas do a Willow TV series unless a lame attempt to cash in on the sucess of LOTR?
The film is 15 years old and was NOT, repeat, NOT a big hit when it came out. Although not exactly a bomb it was a dissapointment at the box office. Where this idea that "Willow" was a huge hit came from I don't know.
I remember Wizards and Warriors and wish I could forget.
But if the Star Wars live action series (and that is where the big money is) is a huge hit, I am sure George has a whole slew of other Star Wars series ready to go until there are more them on the air then there are "CSI" or "Law and Order" shows....

I think that Fox might have a inside track on the SW TV show, but I think Lucas will shop it around.
Even if he intends to have it on Fox, he can get a better deal from them if he threatens to take it elsewhere.
And ,anyway, I understand there is no love lost between Lucas and Fox anyway.
