Serenity: The Franchise?

There's a trailer for the new Joss Whedon film based off the lackluster tv series called Firefly. I watched the Serenity trailer and frankly, it seemed like a Sci-Fi channel production, obvious and somewhat boring. I suppose I'm in a class entirely by myself, but Joss Whedon is sooooo overrated. I've heard tell that this film, if successful is another franchise in the making. I'm not sure if anyone else has heard that.

This is a totally unneccesary thread with a totally unneccesary post designed solely to get a reaction out of the diehard Whedon fans like Barry Woodward. Take this nonsense elsewhere.

First of all, who in the hell is Barry Woodward? I didn't start this thread to incite anything. I have just as much right to post here as the next person and you and anyone else has the right to completely ignore me.

You know there is a giant Firefly/Serenity thread already, right?

Me thinks a Star Wars fan is a bit upset that Serenity will be a better film than any of the last 3 Star Wars films combined.

Go drool over the Star Wars trailer again.

It's not difficult to be a better film than the PT they're not great films, the jury is still out for ROTS so your point is invalid. Better than star wars still isn't great.

I've never seen the show, but I'm interested in the flick. It's got Animal Mother in it.

Wait, is George Lucas in this?

What is this Firefly? Is it really any good? Its not like Andromeda, or Enterprise, or Stargate SG1 is it? Cos' I hate that stuff. But I'm always interested in new tv, especially stuff that doesn't get played in my country, and probably never will (and that includes the movie most likely).

By the way, Kia ora CircuitsEdge!!

Firefly

It's apparently a western set in space. It got a crap early morning timeslot here in Oz so never got to see it, but have been a fan of what Joss did to Nathan Fillion as "From beneath us it devours" ' right hand 'guy'. And he didn't annoy when introduced in "two guys, a girl and a pizza place" (as newbies usually are).

Hey there's a potentional topic - new additions to established shows? Interested?

Didn't see last 2 Star Wars but probably see third because of continuity.....maybe.

Deviated, Kia Ora!

I managed to catch Firefly here in NZ once or twice (though I'm amazed it got any play at all, even in it's late night slot), but couldnt get into it, I think maybe because I came into it at about the seventh episode mark.

And I can almost guarantee the flick wont get a release here.

In today's market, any movie that does well at the box office is a potential franchise. So either this forum topic is going to get so bloated that it ceases to signify anything other than 'films with sequels' or we can all agree to keep the thread to established franchises. Film series that transcend simple sequels into a bigger phenomenon? Or, fuck it.

Thats typical. If you want to see anything original/interesting on tv in this country you have to be up at some ungodly hour to do so. Notice they've just started playing the critically acclaimed series Carnivale here on TV1 - at 11:30pm? Two of my favourite shows, I'm Alan Partridge and Strangers With Candy, were only ever played here late at night or early in the morning, and even then they didn't play all the episodes. All I can say is - thank God for imported dvds and multizone players!

I loved Firefly but am still amazed that Whedon has enough muscle to get a theaterical movie released based on a Sci Fi show that, despite it quality, failed in the ratings. A Made for TV movie would seem to be a more logical venue.
Don't get me wrong, I will be there opening night but still it does show how hot Whedon is in the business that he got a theartical release for the film, probably as a good will gesture for him in hope of future projects.
