Feed My Netflix!

Thread Starter
Alright, so I finally joined Netflix and it's the greatest thing of all time. I've currently got over 100 movies in my queue, but I'm running out of ideas. If anyone's got some suggestions, please send them my way. I love me some sci-fi/horror/fantasy, but any genre will do. And don't worry if they're mainstream or cult movies - any and all suggestions are welcome, even if chances are good that I've already seen it.

Fire when ready.

How about Trolls II?

No deal. Netflix would have to pay me to ship that movie to my house.

Then I would throw it in the sewer.

This is all a pipe dream, though, because sending Troll II by mail is a Federal offense.

Primer.

I watched it 6 times before I returned it, then went to the store and bought it that day.

HELLBOUND

In it you get to see Chuck kick Satans arse.

Edit: I forgot, in the movie his name is Frank Shatter, how fucking cool is that.

One thing to do is go to your queue and click on one of the movies to go to its page. There you will see a catagory called "Enjoyed by people who enjoyed..." with a list of seven or eight films. Sometimes you will see something you might like there. Also, when you add a movie to your queue, you will see a page of related films. And lastly, vote on films you've seen and you will have a "Recommendations" page. Now, none of these are incredibly effective. All of the recommendations I get are films I've already seen. But together these things work nicely. There's also a new sort of "friends" network where people recommend things to each other, apparently, but I haven't tried it yet.

One thing to do also is arrange your queue so that you are getting similar types of films juxtaposed with one another. This can inspire some new additions sometimes. Here's an example from my queue:

King of New York: SE (Widescreen)

Deep Cover

New Jack City

Bad Lieutenant

A Bullet in the Head

A Better Tomorrow

A Better Tomorrow II

And further down my list I have:

The Night of the Hunter

On the Waterfront

From Here to Eternity

Rififi

Wages of Fear

Also, if you like anime, Netflix has tons of it. I'm a Netflix whore right now, sorry for the shilling.

Primer was on my list, but thanks to that recommendation, I bumped it up to the top.

Kings of New York and Bad Lieutenant are also good recommendations - I've been meaning to see those.

Chuck Norris and I have had a hard time getting along ever since Sidekicks.

I recommend picking up Thief by Michael Mann and starring James Caan. It's actually pretty awesome.

This is my serious entry by the way.

Check my post here this should help your list.

Seven Samurai and Once Upon a Time in China have been added to the list. That reminded me that I have still never seen Enter the Dragon, so I put that on there too.

Thief - added.

Are there any sweet movies about ninjas? I could use some ninjas.
You should add all those films in that thread honestly they are all worth seeing.

Ninjas.. Duel to the Death, American Ninja, Revenge of the Ninja. Theres more but thats all I can think of at the moment.
Don't mistake my movie lists as "recommendations." I haven't even seen them myself yet. That's why they are in my queue. But they could well end up sucking bad, and I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy.

I just added some ninja movies to my queue based on recent CHUD news:

American Ninja

American Ninja 2 / American Ninja 3

Revenge of the Ninja

Nine Deaths of the Ninja

I suspect these are going to be pretty bad, but I'm just curious.
American Ninja 2 and 3 are on the same disc and I say stay far away from Part 3 its crap.

9 Deaths is also pretty horrid. Ninja III and Enter the Ninja still aren't out on dvd.

Oh and The Hunted (Christopher Lambert, John Lone flick) is a must.

Ninja Scroll if you want an anime.

I saw part of ninja scroll once. All I can remember is that some lady got raped by a giant man who may or may not have been made of stone. In fact, that describes most of the anime I've seen, except some parts are usually boring, and one time, there was a vagina that turned into a spider.

I'll add American Ninja and see what happens.

Also, I just don't like Christopher Lambert. I realize he was the Highlander and all, but he's got that annoying lisp and voice, and I couldn't have picked a worse choice to play Rayden in a Mortal Kombat movie.
Get Sword of Doom.
Lambert really isn't the star of The Hunted its just kind of told through his eyes. You're missing a couple of great performances from John Lone as the evil Ninja and Yoshio Harada as Takeda as well.

Its worth seeing i'm telling you. I mean come on read this .. " MPAA: Rated R for strong bloody ninja violence and some sexuality. " I mean fuckin A man if that doesn't sell it for you nothing will!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113360/

Btw The Lone Wolf and Cub flicks have awesome Ninja stuff as well.
I know the ninja movies are going to be bad, that's why I'm adding drinks and friends to the mix when they arrive.
American Ninja 1&2 are cheesefests but they are alot of fun and done somewhat well considering. I love them for nostaligic reasons. Still worth a look.
This thread has turned into "Fill my NetFlix queue with Ninja movies".

And for the life of me I can't think of anything wrong with that.

Yet variety is the spice of life.

More monster and alien movies, please.

For example, NetFlix allows me to see The Deadly Spawn, a 20 year old movie that I had never heard of before last month. I wouldn't go out of my way to rent it, but I'll gladly have it delivered to my home.
Ok how about

Outland

With good old Sean Connery. It's directed by Peter Hyams, who for the life of me, I don't understand why he still gets gigs. However, this movie is pretty cool in an out of space kinda way.. Also it mixes a Western with Science Fiction and that can't go wrong.

Netflix abides, even though the alien monster in this instance is the corrupt nature of mankind.
Jackpot. From the directors of Twin Falls Idaho. Great film that nobody saw. I'd say more about it, but it's sort of better if you just discover it for yourself.

Yes Men - good call. I saw part of a screener tape a couple of years ago, but now I can see the whole thing. And this pick led to The Corporation and Uncovered: The War on Iraq.

Huckabees was my first Netflix delivery, actually. Throwing pre-existing existential psychobabble at viewers does not a good movie make. Felt like there weren't any new ideas - came across as pretentious college dorm psyche 101 talk, and reminded me too much of Waking Life.

Battle Royale - good call. Been meaning to see that one.

Willard was a bad, bad movie.

The Long Good Friday starring Bob Hoskins.

Ok, it doesn't have aliens but it has a monster......of a performance from good old Bob.

Also you have to pick up this movie.

Rita, Sue and Bob Too

This is really like where I grew up, I'm not fucking joking. It's almost like a sick and fucking twisted documentry about the housing estate where I use to live. *shiver*

Oh and while your at it get Nil by Mouth by Gary Oldman. It's fucking awful to watch but not awful in it's a bad movie because it awesome.
The Seventh Curse
Ichie the Killer
Audition
The Tenant
If you want monsters movies why not try C.H.U.D. and The Stuff.

Long Good Friday and Ichi the Killer - added.

And I'll say "no thank you" to The Stuff, sir.

Not trying to be a nag but don't forget

Rita, Sue and Bob Too

Nil by Mouth.

Do it I tell you, and do it now.

Love you!

FIREWORKS/HANA-BI. A great, great movie.

Fireworks looks good. I'll add that.

Parker, your Rita Sue movie is nowhere to be found. But I did add Nil by Mouth, because I too am trying to escape a drug-addled world of crushing poverty and overwhelming claustrophobia.

That sucks.

At this minute I am composing a letter to the CEO of NeFlix.

Can someone help I can't get past

Dear Sir/Madam

You Fucker!
I've got nothing after that.

Nil by Mouth is awesome, don't watch it on a day when your feeling a little down. Well not unless you have the Suicide helpline handy. You will see the joy the English have with saying the world Cunt in every sentence. It's like a game. Like Pictionary without the pictures and infinitely more bad language.

Good call, Helix - I've been meaning to see that, and the Bill Paxton thing reminded me to include Weird Science, which in turn reminded me to add Real Genius. On an unrelated note, I also added Frankenfish, because I'm a sucker for stupid movies.
When I run out of ideas, I start choosing movies by director or actor. Smetimes I find stuff I had no idea those folks made and those movies often pretty good as I already have an appreciation for that director or actor.
