Peckinpah's CROSS OF IRON

I just finished this, and woah. Really powerful stuff. I guess it's not surprising with Peckinpah, but it's amazing to see. Great performances across the board, despite the accents, astoundingly good editing, just really strong stuff. I'd never really heard of it before I grabbed the DVD (really cheaply), so it's a fine discovery.

Depressing shit, never got to see it all the way to the end, but I guess they all die or something.

James Coburn is one grizzly motherfucker.

Hey so I really want to see this movie, however Netflix only carries the full screen DVD and I'll be fucked if I watch a Peckinpah film in the wrong aspect ratio. The Widescreen DVD goes for about $25, is it worth it for a blind buy?

Yeah, but just barely. Anything over $25.00 I don't think is worth the cost. Cross is a a really good, solid film, but not Peckinpah's top shelf work.

Thanks for the advice. I really want to see this, but I can't bring myself to spend $25 on it, especially when it's not even blu ray. I'm sure I'll see it eventually. Maybe one of these days Netflix will stop being an asshole and get copies of the widescreen dvd.
