Sith Soundtrack

Sorry for starting another Star Wars thread, but I don't want to go to the spoilers thread.

I think they did this for AOTC, but the Target and Walmart versions had different "exclusive" extras. Is that the case this time?

I saw on the Walmart website that their version has an exclusive track download. But on Target, I don't see any details. Anybody buy this yet?
According to some people on the MF.com forums the releases have different track names and order.....so be careful of what you buy....

Take it with a grain of salt though as it may not be true and they're all similiar.

I do believe there is a bonus track dubbed "I am the Senate", an obviously Palpatine track.

Edit: Also, I remember Carl or Mecha say that the last 45 seconds of AotC's score was actually the end of Epiosde III but of course hearing the epiosde III it dosn't have that last bit, so I was just wondering what was up with that...or maybe I read it wrong but that's what I rmember anyways.

I tought this soundtrack was being released today, but they told me at Target it was tomorrow. :-(
post #4 of 45
Soundtrack does not come out until tomorrow.
The Target ad this week notes an "exclusive digital download" as the extra.

Just picked it up at Best Buy for 12 bucks and am watching the DVD right now -- awesome so far.

Do you have access to the digital downloadable track? There's a Best Buy next to me, but I might as well go to Target if that version doesn't have it.

Haven't tried it on my PC yet, but there's no mention of it on the packaging.

These store exclusives suck! Why can't they just offer the same thing everywhere?
Because they know the REALLY insane fanboys with lots of disposable income will buy every version.
I picked up a copy from the Virgin Megastore in Times Square. I could probably have saved a couple bucks by taking a trip to Best Buy or Circuit City, but I didn't really have time today and wanted to get it so I could listen to it this afternoon at work.

I'll be getting to it soon, but I'm more eager to check out the dvd. My laptop at work has a dvd player too, but I won't really be able to enjoy it so I'll just wait.

I will hit Best Buy after work today.

I picked up the cds for Episodes I and II not too long ago and listened to them a few times. I've only listened to this new one once so far but it made more of an impression on me than the other prequel soundtracks. They're all really good, but this one, for me at least (and I'm sure for others too, based on some impressions I've read), ia a few notches higher. It's another winner from John Williams.

It makes the biggest difference that the new soundtrack redoes some of the themes from the OT, but does them on a grander scale.

It's like Williams has purposely gone back to the well to update the themes from the OT to make it link back with the PT. You are actually getting old school Star Wars music on the new soundtrack.

It's like when Williams did Last Crusade. He specifically did not use the Indy theme, except for the end and maybe one reference during the movie. You get some good music, but not Indiana Jones theme you know and love.

I'm sure there's a fine line, but I'm happy to hear a lot of the old themes on the Sith soundtrack. I'm sure it will make for a more memorable experience during the film.

The thing that dawned on me about this score is that it makes Sith feel like it should be viewed last rather than third. Everything about that last track seems to be hearkening BACK to the OT rather than sequeing into it.
the DVD is great. i love the music videos on it (watching it now). hell, i would have bought it separate if they didn't include it in with the CD.

First off, I don't doubt you, RD.

Second, you're absoloutely right. The specific track that gets me so jazzed is the rehash of the Duel track from Empire. How will that scene in ESB play out now, with the music seemingly subdued, as opposed to what is heard in Sith? Everything in the PT is on a grander scale than the OT, it seems.

It's a conundrum.

Isn't that supposed to be the whole point though? The PT has the galaxy opened up and all big and huge, whereas the OT is more intimate and smaller. At least that's what George was going for, IIRC.

I love the soundtrack. I love the ESB quotation particularly, although I'm baffled by the inclusion of a tiny bit of the Bespin Escape cue. But hopefully it'll be a nice echo. I think it's hard though, because this is the third chapter, but you're also ending the saga. I'm just glad to hear the fanfare kick in at the very end of the credits, cause I'd missed that.
I haven't heard this yet, they haven't released it down here

But I just looked at the track listing on Amazon, what the fuck is "Padme's Ruminations" supposed to be about? Honestly, have you ever heard of a more ludicrous title? (Well okay, "Qui-gons Noble End" was pretty awful). Ruminating is what cows do with grass!

CRAP!

I bought mine from Target and it has an "exclusive" track.

Well guess what, the track is "Battle of the Heroes" but with the sound effects and dialog. I guess this is from the music video? The is the extra track?!!?

Anyways, I go to download it from Firefox, enter my code and then it popups up a download dialog that is BLANK! I go back to the page and scroll down and it says to use Internet Explorer.

I go back to IE do the same, popup the download dialog, and it says "You have already downloaded this track".

See, this is why music companies just don't get it. They go to the trouble of all these dumb technologies to protect their music, and when I want to obtain it legally I just can't do it because of their incompentence. Turns out the javascript to download the track acquires a license when you load the download page, so if your download fails you're out of luck!!!

The idiots behind this technology are some morons with a company called "Download Card". They have the balls to "patent" this nonsense!!!!

Anyways, anybody bought theirs from Walmart? Does it have the "I am the Senate" extra track? I'm thinking of returning this to Target since their "exclusive" doesn't work. Ironically, people on P2P networks will get it before me. Idiots.

I got mine at Wal-Mart. The exclusive is an interview with John Williams. Sounds cool right? So I go to Wal-mart.com, enter the code, download their crappy downloader, download the file, try to listen to it, and get some bs that the song license is not available. Fucking brilliant.

Anyway, love the soundtrack, but I really hope Duel of the Fates finds its way into the duel. The last track with Williams playing the award scene from ANH over and over is awesome.

The dvd is also great. You know what would have been great on it....an interview with John Williams. Sure would like to hear a new one.
Almost picked it up but I still plan to buy My Name is Nobody and The RotS game, so that's going to take up a chunk of change......so i;m holding off on the RotS score cause it's on my ipod but it will be bought for the DVD and the better quality versions of the music.........

No Best Buy here, one being built next to my friends house but right now, no BB to get adigital download exclusive thing.........my local video store is doing a digital download for Team America also, wonder what the hell that will include.........

Is the file DRMed? That is, you got the file but can't play it? This is BS!!! Well, at least you have a file, I didn't even get to download it!

You get ONE chance to download it, and that's it.

I'm thinking I would rather get the Williams interview, the Battle of the Heros with the dialog and sound effects is on the DVD.

Yes, the DVD is amazing! Battle of the Heroes in DVD quality is awesome! And the intros by McDiarmid are great.

Hah! This is EXACTLY what happened to me tonight. Asses.

Still, the DVD is awesome. If you aren't in the mood for SW, just watch that.

I've come to the conclusion that the better viewing order for the saga is watching Episodes IV and V first, pulling a Godfather part II and watching episodes I-III and finishing with Episode VI.

The tracks seem to be in a strange order.

Bear in mind, this is only a selection. Big new themes don't really come into it now, because all the main main characters have just about been introduced, so we get Grievous' theme and the Anakin vs. Obi-Wan stuff. It's also easy to pick and choose from the two-discs, whereas this is just the initial release (I pray there will be an expanded version). For instance, the original TPM CD didn't have stuff like 'Anakin is Free,' which is the best piece of music in the entire movie, and it didn't have the expanded Duel of the Fates from the Theed battle. Or some of the stuff the LOTR movies had that didn't make it on the CD.

SW CDs are never really in order, aside from the expanded editions. This goes back to ESB, which had the end credits on side one.
I think there hasn't been one for AOTC due to A: the adverse reaction of fans to the expanded TPM; and B: because of AOTC's treatment in the film, where it was spliced with TPM cues.

I was lying in bed last night practically asleep, and I had Duel of the Fates playing in my mind. It was going on and on before I finally bcame conscious of the fact. Heh heh. Oh well. This stuff is starting to strengthen its hold on me.

After picking up the ROTS cd I now have all three prequel soundtracks on my iPod. I have a feeling I'll be listening to them quite frequently as the build up continues, and hey, wouldn't you know... I'm listening to Episode I right now.

The first track on the ROTS soundtrack is really good. I've listened to it a bunch of times. I still haven't had the chance to watch the dvd, but I popped it into the computer at work and put the window down and listened to it. Really cool bonus. I took the occasional peek here and there. Now I'm tempted to bring in the movie dvds and listen to them at work too.
Really trying to resist buying this. The past 2 movies I've rushed out and bought the soundtracks for, listened to them for the two weeks prior to the movie's release....and then never again.

But this time there's a DVD. Must resist...
The DVD is easily worth the price.

I had all 6 [plus Shadows of the empries beautiful score] on my Ipod but someone reset the configuration and my ipod thought it'd be good and autoupdate and delete whatever isn't in my music folder, stopped it jsut in time to retrieve 33% of my tunes but Episoe I and all but that last two tracks of Episode II were deleted. thankfully the rest of the SW soundtracks are on there..........

Now I gotta wait til my next paycheck before getting the score, or the game....or My Name is Nobody on DVD......damn it.

Great score. Williams used the OT themes, but did not let them dominate the score, which was my main worry. "Duel of The Heros" is great.
BTW I noticed on my CD that the list of tracks on the back side of the CD Case do not correspond with the track list I see on my computer when I play the CD. Quite a few track names seem to have been changed. Anybody else notice this? No a big deal, just curiose as to which is the "official" title.
I was not overly impressed by the bonus DVD, though. Other then make my mouth water in the scenes from ROTS in the "Fall Of A Hero" sequence, watching an hour straight of montages wears out it welcome in about 15 minutes.
I would have preferred a documentary with Williams on the the creation of the Star Wars score, but we will have to wait for the film DVD for that....
BTW I have found out that "extra" store specific material is not worth the time or effort to download it.
So far the music is awesome as usual but even more so this time. The cues to the OT are great and really tie it all together. The Bonus DVD is great. I watched the whole thing and its a nice retrospective on StarWars and the story of Anakin Skywalker.

Yeah, someone seems to have put the fake tracklisting with "I Am The Senate" in. Just rename them. The offical titles are:

1. STAR WARS MAIN TITLE AND THE REVENGE OF THE SITH
2. ANAKIN'S DREAM
3. BATTLE OF THE HEROES
4. ANAKIN'S BETRAYAL
5. GENERAL GRIEVOUS
6. PALPATINE'S TEACHINGS
7. GRIEVOUS AND THE DROIDS
8. PADME'S RUMINATIONS
9. ANAKIN VS. OBI-WAN
10. ANAKIN'S DARK DEEDS
11. ENTER LORD VADER
12. THE IMMOLATION SCENE
13. GRIEVOUS TALKS TO LORD SIDIOUS
14. THE BIRTH OF THE TWINS AND PADME'S DESTINY
15. A NEW HOPE AND END TITLES
OK, so the printed listing on the back of the CD case is correct. That is interesting, because usually the CD cases are printed before the CD is pressed because of lead time issues but this is the exception to the rule.
Don't know if I will bother to rename them, though.
I have a feeling the track names on the CD are less fake then early titles someone decided to change at the last minute, and somebody ,during the manfacturing process just did not get the word.
If you're getting the titles through the CDDB (WMP etc) it's entirely possible a fan put them in.
It's a little scary a fan can do that to a major release CD or a program like WMP (which is what I use to play my CD's).
I'm obsessed with that force theme refrain the french horns lay into about 1:30 into the opening titles. I cannot wait to see the opening space battle.

I read on a Williams website that they spoke with someone involved in the making of it and that they finished it, it was ready to go and it was cancelled or held off or something.....

Seriously.

Also, I kinda dealt a bum deal to the music not inspired by OT themes initially. Listening to the entire album a few more times I find the non-OT music is really good. This is easily the best prequel score.

"Anakin's Betrayal" is a stunning track.
