Star Wars DVD ass-rape rumor.

I was talking to a friend of mine that works in the Wal-Mart Electronics Department. He told me that when ROTS comes to DVD there will be a set with all six films and a bonus DVD of deleted scenes from the OT.
So if you want those precious scenes, prepare to buy the films all over again.

Oh, whew. I thought this was about what I did to that nun.

No I heard about that. I'm not telling anyone.

What will happen? Will the discs be anally inserted one by one when you purchase? Or will you be assailed by Julia Roberts' crotch tentacles?
Look, we all know by now what to expect from the Lucasfilm quintuple-dip merchandising machine.

The fact of the matter is this: I'll buy it, you'll buy it, we'll ALL buy it. And then, 5 years from now, we'll all buy it again. We're Lucas's bitch. I've come to terms for that, and the sooner you do as well, the more content you'll be. Trust me.
They will digitally insert Julia Robert's crotch into the Sarlaac scene. It will look exactly the same, except everyone will die happy.

edit: me and my Star Wars spelling.
Isn't this what everyone was expecting?
Julia Roberts' crotch tentacles are completely animatronic.

Actually, most people will download the disc a month before the set hits store shelves just like anything else. Then go buy the set anyway.

I wont buy jack shit.

I win!!!
I've bought the OT box set dvd. I'm downloading that extra's disc and ain't buying the whole 6 disc set. I'm gonna buy RoTS by itself though. It does makes me wonder just how much extra stuff is out there for the OT though.
A) This is no surprise.

B) If you feel obligated to re-buy six movies for some deleted scenes, you and I are very different.
There are actually people out there that didn't know the big 6 movie box set was coming??

Course, I'm willing to call bullshit on the date. There'll be a simple box set for the prequels, no doubt, but it's common knowledge that Lucas isn't going to resist the urge to do the big fat 6 movie 30th Anniversary box set. And, I'll admit, I'm ready to take the piss on that one.
Why is the existence of a six-disc set a surprise? It's the whole story in one box. I didn't buy the OT DVD's because I knew there would be a set of all six movies. How could you not think it would come out? I'd prefer the set of six, so I've waited patiently. The surprise would be if he DIDN'T put them all together.
A family member bought me the OT set. I didn't intend on getting it.

They'll probably by me the 6 film set as well. And I won't complain one bit.
Gotta admit, I'm all over it for the 30th Anniversary. Minus the ass-rape, of course...must not drink, must not drink...
People keep asking me, "Why haven't you bought the Star Wars DVDs yet?" and I keep telling them "Because I'm waiting for something better."

I guess when (and if) this becomes official everyone will dump their current DVDs to trade in on the new set. Just like the Alien Quad. and the Ultimate Matrix.
I really do feel shit on though. Lucasfilm should have put the deleted footage on the bonus disc of the first set, instead of the Battlefront demo. Rick's comment about there not being a final cut of Star Wars until Lucas dies makes me wonder if this set will give George yet another chance to change the films yet again.
I have heard Lucas wants to do a digital Yoda in TPM.
My trusty VHS box set of the original original trilogy is holding up just fine. I see no reason to buy poor remixes just for the different format.

And Han shoots first.

Stop.

Buying.

Them.
The deleted scenes I've seen from A New Hope are pretty awful. If the others follow suit, it won't be worth buying a set for, even for the biggest fan. Well, not THE biggest fan I suppose...

I hope he does fix Yoda in TPM, he's like a relative of Yoda or something, he looks very different, but at the same time, he looks like Yoda... *head explodes*
post #24 of 51
...no there is another...

there will be another set after that, which is the OT un-supersized, and then another after that into infinitum, they'll have to make up a new term for the kind of ass rape Lucas Co. will impose on us rebel scum!
We mustn't forget about all the new versions when Lucas goes back and remakes the OT with new actors and today's technology!

Or, better yet, Lucas can use his time machine, go back in time, buy Tunisia, move it to California, and make shooting ANH more enjoyable and cheaper to boot. Or he could just leverage his power to finally harvest our souls, and stop this silly marketing machine once and for all.

* sigh * I'll probably buy it anyway. Goddammit.

That's why I said it, my man.
There was a rumor that Lucas was not only restoring the original trilogy's deleted scenes but adding new digital effects to them as well.
Did anybody not see this coming?
Did anybody not figure out why there was no deleted scene section in the OT DVD set?
That struck me since the "Luke and His buddies" scene on Tatooine was available on the "Star wars:Behind the Magic" cd rom encylopedia that came out in 1998. If that scene was any indication of the quality of the deleted scenes, it's not worth paying 80 bucks for.
With the TV series coming on , Lucas is going to keep the SW cash cow working for some time to come.

Best surprise ever. They should make Han stand infront of a mirror, posing naked with his blaster too, followed by his late night travels of Tatooine with the Falcon, dreaming about washing away the scum from the sandy streets of Mos Eisley...

Ok, I'm done.
The fact that there is going to be an action figure and display of my likeness purchasing another STAR WARS box set should tell you everything about the greed of Lucas. I'd love to see Lucas and Gene Simmons get together for some kind of box set containing both the Star Wars Holiday Special and "KISS Meets the Phantom at the park."
I am so tired of these misleading thread titles.
This if off the topic a bit. Does anybody else hate the piss poor Photo Shop cover of all the DVD's?
Does anybody know if there are any alternate slip covers that are floating around? I think we have been ass raped by Lucasfilm, when they didn't use the original poster art...
You know, it might not be a bad idea to skip this one too and wait for the HD version of the six movies.

My thoughts exactly! Between all the Star Wars laserdiscs and DVDs that I already own, the last thing I need is another set in crappy and soon-to-be-obsolete NTSC format. I may buy ROTS individually to tide me over, but I won't buy another Star Wars box set until it's available in Blu-ray or HD-DVD (hopefully Blu-ray). Since it looks like the format unification talks have stalled, Toshiba's president announced that they're going ahead with their scheduled HD-DVD launch at the end of this year with Sony following shortly thereafter. I'm still hoping the two sides can come together, but it's not looking too good right now.

Off subject but as far as I was concerned the format unification was never going to take place. The talks involved multiformat players. So in other words it's going to be the same as DVD-R and DVD+R, 2 different formats but you can play them both. Both Sony and Toshiba have dumped too much money to change into another format now. It's a lot easier to play multiple formats then they all can get thier slice of the pie.

Blu-Ray has already won, it's the only HD format on the next gen consoles.

Rick McCallum had a chat on Hyperspace today. He said the "Saga Set" will not come out this year.
He did say however the ROTS DVD will contain deleted scenes, awesome documentaries, and a time-lapse video of him gaining 60 pounds over the course of 3 years.

Oh my! This is where I wish Lucas would read the CHUD boards and say "you know, that cognizant came up with a great idea"

That's what I say. Don't keep buying it, just wait until the version you want comes out, then buy.

Patience is a virtue.

I'll wait for the Star Wars trilogy I grew up with to come out and if it doesn't, guess what...

I'll live.

Yeah, thats my plan too. Trouble is, all the crappy changes, silly prequel movies and Lucas's apparent disregard for his older fans (who, like me, just want the originals!) are actually making me LESS of a Star Wars fan as time goes by.

I have the dvd set, it was a gift, and I do still like the movies, especially ESB. But the changes make me slightly angry, and being a film buff I'm constantly finding other films to enjoy that aren't being stuffed around with. So the more Lucas flips me the bird, the more determined I become to NOT watch his films. There's plenty else out there to watch.

Im the saem.

Thats okay - LOTR and The Matrix Saga have replaced it for me these days as a consequence.

Whats that saying about "when I became a man, I put away childish things"?

I have a friend who's 30, he collects Star Wars toys and Transformers! I'm 26 and I don't have a toy fetish, but I do own Clone Wars on dvd, I have an Xbox AND a Ps2, and I've been known to have interesting discussions on whether stormtroopers are clones with my neighbour and his son (who's 9). But only if there's beer involved.

Clone Wars is, ironically and quite literally, the only element of all this new shit that actually feels 100% properly "Star Warsie" to me as I think of it.

read into that what you will.

But thats the only part of the prequal universe I actually wish to own.

Genndy is fucking brilliant.
Clone Wars is a prime example of what happens when you take a brilliant concept thats become stale and inject new talent into it. Tartakovsky and co. show more imagination in their 2 hour-long cartoon than Lucas and his yes-men conjured up for the entire prequel trilogy. Please George, let someone else have a go!

After seeing how kick-ass (and scary) General Grievous was in Clone Wars, I was incredibly disappointed with the lame Dick Dastardly-type character we got in ROTS.

Its sad when you find yourself enjoying the Star Wars spinoffs like the games and cartoons far more than the actual movies. I (un)eagerly await Lucas' next Star Wars project, probably a show about midi-chlorians, or Dexter's diner, or those big-assed space cows from AOTC or something.

Hate Wal-Mart (I do) or not... they are always 13 cents cheaper than any other brick & mortar store out there for new release DVD's.

A 13 cents savings is not enough to get me inside a Wal-Mart.
