Alone in the Dark pollutes DVD.

Today the latest Uwe Boll masterwork hits DVD.
I will by no means recommend that anybody actually buy the film, but I will rent it for one reason: Uwe Boll does a director's commentary and his insane rambalings and inflated value of his shitty films can be drop dead funny at times.
BTW Boll's days might be numbered: AITD was such a box office disaster that he is having problems finding a distriubutor for Bloodrayne.

I don't know if his days are numbered or not... I was in the video store earlier today and they must have had 50 copies of the damn thing. I mean they overstock all kinds of shit at Movie Gallery, but damn, this is a place that got ONE copy of Shaun of the Dead... ONE. To make matters worse, almost all the copies of Alone in the Dark were already rented out. It makes me sick.

I went to Blockbuster today to rent "The Life Aquatic" and "Assault On Precinct 13" and I was shocked by how many copies they had of this. They had about 4-5 rows compared the one they had for "The Life Aquatic". Isn't the rule that if a movie makes more money than another that there should be more copies of it for rental?

I used to think that too, but apparently it's not the case. I don't really see any rhyme or reason to how these stores stock stuff anymore. And I won't even get started on how they choose video games...
Okay, even if absolutely no one buys this, say every Blockbuster and Movie Gallery(the two biggest chains, I think) gets at least 30 copies, it's already sold pretty damn well. Uwe Boll's career will continue... it's just a matter of "for how long?".
I still haven't seen anything of his, even though I'm tempted for the "shits and giggles" factor. But I'll try to hold out, because even by renting this, it's just fanning the flame of Boll's career.

Yeah, but like you said, BB has already paid for the DVD, and so technically you're only renting it from the store that has already validated Boll's piece of shit.

I recommend seeing it, if not for the laughs and absurity, but at least see just how terrible a movie really can be. If you wanna be a film maker, his movies fall into the DON'T category of Do's and Donts of moviemaking.

Good intentions or no, Boll has the moviemaking talent of a 8 year old kid, if that.

Uwe Boll's career will continue, but it might be on a "straight to DVD" level.
There is a real possibility that "Bloodrayne" will end up that way since he is having such a problem finding a distributor for it.
And after what happened with ALID,no wonder.
But it will be sad to think of Ben Kinsley in a straight to DVD film.

This isn't a "fun-bad" movie, guys. Avoid even if you have a morbid curiosity. Besides the 4 minute text crawl into a flashback into hilarious voiceover beginning and one Dorff moment it's really really shitty.

Any movie resembling a horror or action film that was in theaters will rent well at least it's first week. A lot of people know nothing of Uwe Boll. Then folks will buy it used for $8 becasue there will be some 3 for $25 deal on used DVDs. It's sad but it's the truth.

Just like HOTD: so bad it is not even fun in a "Plan Nine From Outer Space" way.
I might still rent it just because of a morbid fascination with what Boll has to say in the commentary about his masterwork.

Why? Kingsley's been popping up in DTV shit for close to twenty years. Anybody remember Harem?

Ok , I rented ALID and watched it with the Boll commentary.
Boll is drop dead funny defending and explaining his piece of shit movie.
I posted some excerpts on the main Forum.
But don't repeat don';t try to watch the film without the commentary. You will regret it if you do....

Direct to TV is not the same bunghole that Direct to DVD is. You can do a DTV movie and emerge with your reputation intact,....some good work has actually been done in that format...but DTDVD is still an black mark.
But I agree that Kingsley has done some real shit in the past few years.
