Scene selection and a 1.0 mono track?

Yeah, there's plenty of room to discuss a single DVD release on a static site article. And for the record, pointing out shit like this is obnoxious and unhelpful.

Back to the topic at hand, will the new SE be offered on its own? Because I have no interest in owning Ghostbusters 2.

A deep scratch that renders the disc unwatchable.

It desivers better than that, surely?
I'm not really sure what it desivers.
In this case, I think "desiver" refers to a general unworthiness of special features due to a goddamn walking Statue of Liberty.
It's a decent flick, and I find the statue bit fun, but I have no interest in it unless you have to buy it to get the first one. An SE is cool for its fans, though. I say that being shit happy that PIRANHA has a special edition.
i already own them, but if it's a good set, then i'll most likey pick these up
post #13 of 40
I don't know if I'd pick this up. The first movie's current disc seems like it would be hard to top.

Aside from havibg shitty cover art and being somewhat overly gimmicky with the animated menus and everything, I think it's pretty good as is. They're going to have to do something really cool to top it.

No, it's obnoxious to link offsite when CHUD has the same info.
im the only one who loves Ghostbusters 2?

fine. *hugs GB2* its all mine and none of you can play with it.

Yeah, but The Special Edition is about 12 pages long. And it's only one of how many articles posted to the site each week? It's possible that some people might miss that news, especially once it moves off the main page. And if there's some information that's important to someone, I don't think they should have to read every single article on the site before they're allowed to share it. And it's not like that post was trying to turn people away from the site - they're still coming here to discuss it.

I guess my point here is that while I know there need to be rules of conduct on these boards, there's this very obvious trend where people read posts by others who only want to discuss movie-related news and point out - usually with severe attitude - that the news exists in another thread or a previous article. It's immature, condescending and elitist, and more irritating than trolling and/or pointless Jabba threads combined.
ya wtf.

The special edition of ghost busters 1 is a damn good DVD. I consider it one of the better DVD treatments out there.
Is there anything wrong with the Special Edition being 12 pages long? Because I can make it 03 pages. I don't think you get the type of stuff on my watch as you did before. I'd just have to dish it out four times a week. That's some work, I tells ya.

Anyway, I saw in the VB news today a GHOSTBUSTERS promo advertisement from Columbia/Tri-Star that indeed, it looks like GHOSTBUSTERS 02 will be recieving a new commentary track by Reitman, I believe. Everything else stays the same, Flip City style.

Also included will be a Collector's Booklet (yawn), and 02 episodes of THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS.

The dual packaging has the infamous logo on the front, and then a lot of green slime behind it. It's iconic, and rather boring.

Consider this all a rumor, but I'll double check it once I get back from work.
Personally, I dig the SE just fine. By the end I'm usually skimming, but it's all good by me. I'm just saying that it is possible for others to miss a line or two in there, if not the whole article from time to time. And then they post news that they didn't realize was already included on the site.

And that leads to these fucking vultures whose only mission in life is to jump onto threads as soon as they can to point out their superiority by stating useless reminders that other threads or articles already covered the matter.

That said, carry on.
aww, boo hoo. still beating that 'I'm the protector of the little people' drum I see.

I like the 12+ pages of the Special Edition column as it is. Some great reading to be had at lunch time or after work. So chock full of god damned information you get into the mindset that I don't need to visit sites like digital bits or dvdfile anymore. Add to that the output of the review crew. So excuse me if I toot the chud horn once in awhile...even if it means being a complete fucking dick.

Dude needs to calm down. Might get an aneurysm trying to save everyone from assholes like me.
Anyway, here's the advertisement, as promised:

Apologies to Nick if this eats some bandwith. I'll take it down in a few days if need be.

The extraneous text mentions who directed the film, the second bullet mentions who stars in the film, the third bullet mentions that "Contains Remastered Video plus 02 Animated Episodes of THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS", and the last bullet touts its own horn, mentioning GHOSTBUSTERS being a top-selling title.

The next blurb in the ectoplasm mentions that "SPECIAL FEATURES Include: 03 featurettes, deleted scenes, photo galleries, multi-angle features, storyboards, and feature commentary by Ivan Reitman, Harold Ramis, and Joe Medjuck".

This all leads me to believe that both discs are the SAME and that the only new features are the packaging, the episodes of REAL GHOSTBUSTERS, and of course, the collectible scrapbook.
Protoncharging.com, in fact, supposes that the cartoon episodes may in fact be from the shitty "Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters" spin-off anyway, so it might not even be worth it on that level.
Kinda surprised to not see g-dude pop in here yet. That cracker loves him some Ghostbusters!
I do indeed love me some Ghostbusters, but I was more excited at the prospect of a double dip when this was coming out last year as a real 20th Anniversary Collector's edition. This kind of shaft treatment (2 episodes of the cartoon? Great, but why would they use 2 episodes from the second worst incarnation of the animated series?) really dulled my excitment. I bet the actual DVDs in the box set still have the same crappy DVD covers as the original releases, too.

Christ, Men in Black gets three different releases, all of them packed with features, and the best Columbia can come up with for one of their highest grossing pictures is to slap some cartoons on it and throw in a "collectable booklet"? Screw that.

Nope, I think it was a good movie. Sure, not as good as the first, but definitely had enough laughs and fun moments to make me enjoy it.

Roughly five years after I spend a night in bed with Anna Paquin, Monica Bellucci and Scarlett Johannsan at the same time.

Even though Ghostbusters is my favorate film i already have two good dvds of it so shant be shelling out more coin on these re-releases.

Now if they included a cast commenterry......
Bad news, everyone! While II will be widescreen in this new release, the original Ghostbusters will be Fullscreen only!
That has to be a mistake, it must mean the T.V. episodes will be FS. A film such as Ghostbusters, which already has a Widescreen transfer would not get the shaft like that........and if so the person[s] responsible are going to hell.
Well, the press release, found here, indicates that it will be Full Screen, which is total bullshit as far as I'm concerned. I thought companies had stopped peddling Full-screen as 'what people wanted'.

For fuck sake, Harold Ramis even says on the commentary how great it is to sit down and see the film in Widescreen again after all these years.

The back of the box says widescreen.

This blows, they didn't have this anywhere today. Spent 3 hours going from Futureshop to the new Bestbuy [ a Rather pointless move as BB is basically Futureshop with more yellow.

That makes for 2 sets I have been unable to locate [Tales from the Crypt being the other].

I had the same problem yesterday; apparantley they didn't get their truck in and it won't be in till Thursday. I did go to Wal-Mart and get it for $19.83 though. The Real Canadian Superstore has it for $16 something last I heard. So if you need your fix, check one of those places out.
While I was at the good ol' Wal-Mart, I read on the back cover that GB1 was in full screen, does anyone know if this is a type..and yes, the COVER SUCKS...why not just the classic black with the symple?! I was also not a fan of the Jurassic Park covers for that same reason.
It's a typo. Both flicks are in Widescreen.

And I still kinda hate myself for buying this.

How so? Is it because it's basically the first initial release with a slightly btter transfer and you already own the first one?

Or did you not own Ghostbusters before and it sucks that much?

I'll bite and pick it up as I don't have Ghostbusters, except a VHS which I can't find.
Option A, Chocula. I have Ghostbusters 1, and was on the fence about this all Tuesday, weighing the pros and cons. Eventually, the pros outweighed the cons. At the very least, I'd get Ghostbusters II (which i DID want), and maybe a new transfer. And it was $12.

What i got was THE EXACT SAME FECKING DISC for Ghostbusters and a shitty scrapbook (the special features on GB1 cover all of this), and two The Real Ghostbusters episodes, which sadly, like so many of the cartoons from my youth, doesn't hold up. Yes, I got GBII out of the deal, and hey, an excuse to watch Ghostbusters again is fine by me....but I knew better, and still bought it. I have-a the buyers-a remorse-a.
Heh, well i'm sure i'll like it, being Ghostbustersless.

Still, sucks that the best they can muster is a scrapbook, though I did like the scrapbook in my JAWS set.
So I found it at Virgin Records, slight problem though.

Here is a small comparison......

Futureshop: $17.99
Virgin Store: $33.99

Fuck that.
