Now I don't feel so bad about having to work and missing the game.
Dirty Saffas - try watching it in a bar surrounded by green shirts... makes it hard to enjoy a beer. The boys better give it to the Aussies this weekend.

I haven't checked this thread for a while - how is everyone?

And nice pic of Dan Carter - a girl I work with here scored him last November when he was on the end of season tour - true story!

If it'll make you happy, I try to find pictures of an undresed Jonah Lomu.

What kind of 'thing' do you mean? No matter what you may have heard or read in the papers, I have never had any 'thing' of mine against Dan Carter. And I'll thank you to keep this thread clean of such inappropriate 'thing' discussions.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that the problem was that Dan Carter and your thing were not against one another. (Too bad, I was getting an interesting mental image there.)

Good news: The All Blacks beat Australia last night, although they took they're sweet time with it. Unfortunately (I guess), Daniel Carter was injured in the game. Groin strain hopefully...

Bad news: Former NZ prime minister The Right Honourable David Lange has died. Lange was the prime architect of NZ's nuclear-free status, and was known for his sharp wit and tendency to flip the bird at America over the issue of letting US naval vessels into our ports (which we don't do). RIP PM.

This is what makes me hate working on Saturday. Live game, 9 am, and I have to be in surgery removing a mass from a patient's leg instead of watching rugby. Ugh. Like the mass wouldn't still be there on Monday. Oh, well, gotta earn a living.

Sad news indeed.

I especially liked his retort to then-UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher during a press conference in the UK. Thatcher had publicly criticised the anti-nuke thing here, and as she walked out of the gallery, Lange called out to her, in front of all the press, "Oi! You forgot your broom!"

Hey fellow Kiwis (Australians, fill this space with appropriate grunts) & hello to Belethedheliel who we may adopt soon given her obvious love of our Rugby Team! Apologies it's been long time no post! Gotta say I'd be grateful for no more naked/semi naked photos of Carter thanks... Shame about the injury for sure, but after one of our major hotels here had like a 18 story billboard of him in nothing but his Jockeys for about 6 months he's certainly been exposed enough for my liking (It's hard not to feel insignifigant compared to a guy with a 2 story package...) Yes, good to see the ABs come back from the indignities of defeat at the hands of the Boks (Nothing like kicking the Wallabys!) & sad to say goodbye to our Greatest Prime Minister... I can't feel too sad at the moment though.... I have front row centre seats for when John Cleese tours in November! (Yes that's my gloat for the day....)
Another chick here!

Regional NSW and National Private Joke - Wagga Wagga.

Things of note: probably unilaterally resposible for dull-as-shit plebs The Logans taking out latest whore-fest BB05, rather than somewhat interesting Tim. Why? Because that's what Wagga does best - produce notable idiots then support them to the hilt.

Any jobs over in NZ for aussie soon-to-be-lawyers? I can't stand this country much longer.

Welcome. I hope you're not a Dan Carter fan - we've got enough of them. Being an Aussie though, I guess you probably haven't got a clue who he is, and don't care. You're better off that way

And you are welcome to a job over here - we lose so many people overseas (including me, eventually) that we need replacements. Even if they are lawyers...
Yes, you are correct in your assumptions about my deep knowledge of all things Dan Carter. The only Kiwi beefcake I'm vaguely familiar with are the LOTR boys, Messrs Urban, Csokas etc, and a peripheral awareness of your rugby players.

Not Quite A Lawyer! Don't hate me yet, there is still a chance I could turn back from the abyss at the final moment and channel my powers towards good, and become an animal trainer!
Well, if that's your preference...

Mssr. Marton Csokas

Sorry, DP. I promise at least not to involve your thing with these men.

In exchange, how about an Aussie?

Hey guys, I'm a yank who has recently decided to study for a semester at Canterburry University. I can't fucking wait, I'll be leaving some time in Janurary, and I was just wondering if you Kiwis had any recommendations for places to visit or things to do while I'm there.

Hey man, you decided on Canterbury eh? Hope you like cold weather!
Just kidding, its beautiful down there.

If you're into scenic stuff, the South Island's the place to be. Go bungie-jumping, visit some LOTR locations (my sisters been to Lothlorien), go to Queenstown (but don't stay in a motel there), Lake Wanaka, Fiordland, Arthur's Pass, Dunedin, and if you're staying in Christchurch look out for the Wizard. And go see a rugby game, the Crusaders kick ass.

If you get the chance, VISIT WELLINGTON. Honestly, dude, you won't regret it, visit Te Papa, check out Courteney Place, and Bourbon St on a Friday night GOES OFF. There, thats my spiel

Hey JuddL I'm a Cantab & trust me you will have a huge time in Christchurch! Obviously where you wanna go & what you want to do will depend on your tastes & given this is a movie site (or it was the last time I checked!) I'm gonna guess you like Movies so here's the go there!
If you are looking for the biggest screen, Hoyts in Riccarton is your go. It's close to the campus, & is supposedly the largest in the South Island. It has'nt been open long so I can't speak for the other smaller theartes but "Episode 3" was fairly intense on my one "CineMaxx" experience there.
Avoid Hoyts 8 (Moorhouse Ave - Near the centre of town) if you can... Really cramped seating - though it has Cinema#4, which still has a great screen & sound. If something big is opening, you'll generally find it will open in this one, it's a good night out- but it helps if you are a short-ass!
Comfiest of the big theartes are Hoyts Northlands & Reading Cinemas in Shirley... Readings have the bigger Screens & the better sound though, and overall it would be the pick of the larger cinema complexs.
The Art house set ups are the Rialto in Moorhouse Ave & the Academy at the Arts Centre, it's near the centre of town... The Arts Centre is made up of these great old bulidings, and there's an excellent Market there every weekend - great food too. The Regent on Worcester tries to pretend to be an art house thearte on occassions but generally shows the more commercial flicks & isn't very impressive. As you could possibly imagine though the Arts Theatres (& any of the other smaller surburban complexs) are'nt the go if you want the greatest in sight & sound in town!
Best Video Store in Town (& possibly New Zealand)- Alices, Pretty sure it's Tuam/High Street corner. Go. You will understand what I mean. It has everything good. Ever.
One of the beautys of Christchurch is that we have a great inexpensive Bus system, and there are regular Buses that will take you to all the Cinemas from the Campus if you are looking to save some dollars (in fact they can get you practically anywhere!), its really cheap. Metrocards (top up cards) are even cheaper again, you'll get around town for $1.50 a pop or $3 for the whole day. Students tend to get discounts @ most of the theartes (& at a LOT of places around town too) so keep your ID on you @ all times....
My esteemed fellow Kiwi is right.... No-one beats the Crusaders!!!

Thanks for the info guys. I certainly plan on visiting Wellington while I'm out there, and well, movies, I couldn't very well live without those now could I? Goddamn I can't wait!

Nikki Webster

How old is she. 12?

Is she being marketed as a sex symbol now?

As if we needed another good reason to stay away from the mainstream Aussie Media.
Nikki Webster? You mean, from 'Australian Idol' and composer of a song in the film 'Lizzine MacGuire' Nikki Webster? She's 18, but I haven't the foggiest notion of how she's being marketed. Of course, as an adult, I'd imagine she's being marketed however she darn well pleases, and can make as much of an ass of herself as she so chooses (a la Brittany Spears).
Just as long as she keeps away from pop music or music general I'm happy. Maybe we should have an aussie CHUD gathering, the brits did it, why can't we?

Has anyone been reading about the model's arrest for possession of Ecstasy, what a joke.

Geoff, whilst I can appreciate your burning desire to see what true league players look like before they come over here for a soft retirement, I think you're coming down to watch the wrong game. For a journey of that distance you should be booking yourself in for State of Origin 1... hell, 2 and 3 if you've got the time and money.
I think a (in DP's word's I think) "Down-Planet" gathering would be quite a charming night out. Problem is we're so damn spread out - where should/could it be?

Yeah, the whole "Get Busted for Drugs in SE Asia" as a national pastime is getting a bit old. Still the fact that everyone is so het-up over the "Muslim moral panic" that the media freaks out over a MUSLIM woman wearing ISLAMIC clothing in a MUSLIM country is taking the whole farce just a LITTLE too far, I think.

In other news, someone needs to tell John Brogden that the phrase "to fall on your sword" is NOT to be taken literally anymore...What a fucking amateur.

We should all meet in Wellington for the Kong premiere. Then we can abduct Peter Jackson (he's so thin, there's no way he can fight us all off) and force him to shout us all to dinner. I will also grab Naomi

Am I missing some Kiwi slang? What's 'shout us all to dinner' mean? Like treat?

Sounds like a plan to me!

Belethedheliel - yeah, "to shout" = to willingly/unwillingly pay for everyone else. Common trans-Tasman euphemism.
Thread Starter
Actually, "shouting" in New Zealand is different. Here, when dinner is "shouted", it means one person (the "shouter") regurgitates food into a bowl, which is then passed around to each person at the table.

Where do you think the "gruel" scene in Bad Taste came from?

Sooooo, I've just finished a lovely meal of lamb-chops and roast vegetables. Anybody fancy a shout?
Is the term "to shout someone" a meal exclusive to us lot down here in UnderEarth?
Weird.
Im all up for a Down Under Chud Meeting thing. Im in Melbourne. I go to Sydney all the time and im going to be in NZ after Xmas. Im all over the place.
Also to the Ozzlings here-
My friend has a german backpacker staying with them and the first thing he asked us when he rocked up was:
"Do they have drop bears in the city..is it safe to walk around in the parks?"
I havent heard of those things in years!
Good to see the old traditions are still flourishing.
Drop-bears????!!!!

Oh good GOD!

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My doctor brother is getting posted to Auckland from December (wonder how much THAT post-pak is gonna cost us?!) so I guess this finally gives me a legitimate excuse to get my passport and flee the depths of NSW. Tell me, now, is there actually anything to DO in Auckland...We thought if he got the NZ place it would be Dunedin in which case the fun of the South Island abounds, but Auckland???

ANYHOW, I'm terribly excited (sincerely) bc I've wanted to visit your fair, green land for some time now, and now I'll just have to!

When is the Kong premiere anyway? Have we already undertaken infiltration of the KongisKing crew, thus placing us in a better strategic position for heretofore mentioned plan to abduct and pilfer from certain physically diminished director? Hmmmmm?????????
BTW if any of you Kiwi's would be so kind as to post me a link or two for rental property sites for Auckland that would be extremely helpful. Have been looking for the last hour or two and come up with next to nothing. I started at propertystuff.co.nz and went from there, most links I've found on indexes seem not to work...I'll keep trying I guess!

Yay, my name change has come through! Don't worry, I'm still the same old Prevert you all know and love, just with a slightly geekier name. But you guys are all mates, so feel free to call me Mike or Michael, sweet.

Ianthe, Auckland house prices are pretty high at the moment (my sister & her fiance just got a one bedroom for NZ$320,000!). I will link you some local real estate companies soon as. As to what to do, well Auckland is by far our biggest city, but if you're looking for beautiful NZ scenery you're in the wrong place. But for city living, Auckland's got everything you'd expect, including diabolical traffic.

BTW, I'm sure you're brother will be very welcome here, as will you be.

I'm just watching on CNN, what a mess. What's cruelly ironic is that the weather here in NZ is AWESOME at the moment, considering August-September is usually the worst time of year down here, the sun has been shining, its like summer. They should fly the New Orleans folk out here, let them dry out a bit!
