Where the Kiwis/Aussies at? - Page 79

Horrible news. 9 dead from a wall of water. With 66 missing the death toll will rise considerably.

Bloody awful earthquake in Christchurch - the footage looks nasty. Hope my fellow Australasians in The Land Of The Long White Cloud are okay...

Yeah its pretty bad. We only avoided deaths in the September quake because it was fairly deep, and happened in the middle of the night. This time it was shallow, and struck at lunchtime. Theres already confirmed deaths - and some of the live footage coming out is pretty damn grim.

Thankfully I heard from my family down there pretty quick, but I know a bunch of people that haven't heard anything yet.

Awful. At least 100 dead. I didn't even know Christchurch is at risk of earthquakes.

The whole damn country lies on a faultline.  Man, I'm just . . . actually, I don't even know WHAT I am.  It all just feels so surreal from over here.

Pretty shitty of the camerman to zoom in on the people crying. I know it's the norm, but still. Or maybe check if there's anyone in that collapsed building!

Where are you based, NZ?

In Wollongong (just out of Sydney).  Been over here for 11 years now.  It's a weird feeling after watching Australia get smashed by the floods, the cyclones, the fires . . . all so close together.  And then it's "our turn".

65 confirmed dead with that number sure to rise. Just fucking horrible.

My thoughts are with the Kiwis.  Vacationed over there a few years ago and was struck by just how kind and kickass everyone was.

Well, now that the Kiwi who started this has become a Brit, seems likes things are quiet.

Any news?

there's been another fucking earthquake (actually 2) in Chrostchurch this arvo with more building collapses and people trapped.  I honestly don't know how the people of that city are coping.

Heart goes out to them all.

THREAD BUMP!!!!

And from some pretty awful circumstances being described in the most recent posts, I will turn to something completely light and fluffy.

HOW FUCKING AWESOME WAS HEMSWORTH IN THOR?????!!!!!  Why do these hunks o'men all escape to Hollywood? Where are they in regional NSW??? Why aren't they local solicitors?????

Seriously, I watched that movie THREE times on the Syd-Ldn/Ldn-Syd flights of the last 2 weeks (once on the out-bound, twice on the return. That's the only good thing about looooooooon- haul, methinks). AND I WOULD HAVE GONE BACK FOR A 4th except that would be weird, and also, I was really quite tired :D

I'm SO PISSED that I missed seeing this in the cinema release, but extremely pleased to discover the disc release is a mere month away. Bring on the beefcake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still haven't seen it yet...I'm very gun shy about comic book movies. For every good one there's 100 bad ones. I'll get to it eventually.

Aussie folk, new TV shows THE SLAP and WILD BOYS are about to hit UK shoes. Any good?

Curious about WILD BOYS as I'm quite interested in Aussie history. And apparently the novel of THE SLAP was very good.

The Slap has been getting rave reviews and rating pretty bloody well, tho it's not my thing, so give it a try.

Wild Boys has already been cancelled.

So... I'm noticing a few more Melbourne chewers around here of late.

Roll call ladies and gents - I think we should all have some sort of meet and greet session, lets get this Melbourne chapter humming.

Thanks RD. How about RAKE, with Richard Roxburgh? Hugo Weaving was in an episode I believe.

A Melbourne meet and greet sounds good to me.

You know, I honestly can't remember if I've even posted in this thread before now. Completely passed me by. Shall administer a self-slap.

I think The Slap generates a love-it or hate-it reaction. I watched the first ep and immediately hated it, so have not seen the rest. Never watched Wild Boys either. Rake, however, was largely brilliant and well worth a viewing.

Melbourne meet-up would be a great idea. Not being Melbournian and almost guaranteed not being able to attend, I hope it goes well!

Fantastic, Roxburgh is a joy and the Weaving episode is hilarious.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Good Aussie TV is rare. At least it was when I lived in Perth in the 80s and early 90s.

I'm here over the holidays, so sign me up.

Guys, has anyone seen the Adelaide set Aussie crime flick SNOWTOWN?  It's supposed to be nearly as good as ANIMAL KINGDOM.

And what the hell is AUSTRALIA AFTER DARK?

Okay lads and lasses, fellow Anzacs, Australasian bretheren.

I'm probably not telling anyone anything they don't already know, but just in case...

Amazon.co.uk's deal of free delivery to oz and nz for any dvd, book or cd order over 25 quid ends in a little over 24 hours officially (tho my guess is they'll extend it) and to top that off...

The Australian dollar has climbed to a 27-year-high against the pound offering holiday discounts for Australians plying the kangaroo route to London.

The Aussie gained more than one pence against the pound overnight, rising to almost 68 pence - the highest since February 1985 - before easing back to 67.7 in recent trading.

So yeah, if you guys have been circling that one thing you always wanted, or that bunch of things - nows as good as its gonna get methinks.

Also for Blurays we are in the same region as the UK so they'll play on your player.

I've been using sendit.com for buying DVDs, Blurays and xBox360 games for a couple of years now.

No way no how can I afford it, but a bargain is a bargain. Cracked and got the following:

To be honest, I kinda hope amazon do drop the free delivery deal - at least for a time - I can't keep affording this.

Yeah, I'm kind of hoping the dollar drops before I crack and start buying stuff. More stuff. I already bought shoes.

Yeah I went on a Winter clothing sale bonanza myself. Worked myself up into a near frenzy!

I was in Melbourne on the weekend for the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular.  Show was glorious.  Back in the day, I used to be in Melbourne once a month to do wrestling shows.  but I never saw the place - was always drive down, get to venue, find who I'm working with, do match, hop in car, drive back to Sydney.  This is the first time I've had a chance to actually check the place out.  It's quite lovely.

I hope to get down there one year soon to see the Grand Prix before Melbourne loses it.

Yeah, used to do shows for PCW way back in the day.  I was part of the original "UWA Invasion" angle, so that's going back some time now.  Only really stay in touch with Krackerjak these days.

Thinking I'll come down for Armageddon this year, if the guests are cool.

I have mutual friends with ole Kracker, great dude.

Lemme know anyway man - we must drink much beer. If you ever need a place to crash here too just say the word.

Will do, man.  Thinking I'll come down for Armageddon this year if the guests are cool.  Plus, if my Iron Fist costume rocks for my friend's birthday party in April, I'm gonna have to wear that sucker *somewhere* else . . . you know, on principle.
