Grades ONLY for Sith Please

Thread Starter
Ok...not to be ass or anything but I have never been a huge Star Wars fan. (Maybe it has to do with the fact that my whole damn life I have had to deal with the "Luke I am your father "jabs) I mean I own the Original Trilogy and do enjoy it quite a bit but have never just fawned over any Star Wars movie. I have also reasonably enjoyed the prequels, but I did not go into either one with any expectations to speak of. That said I don't really feel like wading through all of the Star Wars discussions and having read a thesis from each person detailing how "Sith may or may not be the best since Empire", or "at least it is the best of the new trilogy" talk. So if you gentle souls would be so kind as to just give your grade on a scale of 1 to 10 that would be appreciated.

My overall grades for the series:

Phantom Menace-6.5
Attack of the Clones-7.25

Star Wars-7.75
Empire-8
Return of the Jedi-7.5

Though to be honest there are times when I like each film in the original series more than the grades I posted.

8.5. Actually better than Jedi, though both completed their respective story arcs well.

Let's just say it's perhaps the best bad movie I've ever seen. Horrible acting, horrible dialogue, some inexcusable dream sequences and logic gaps, but it still was great.

REVENGE OF THE SITH 8.0

An absolutely unbelievable film in every respect. As someone who was very critical of the first two installments, I found ROTS to be everything the first two weren't. I don't understand what the issue is with everyone complaining about the acting and dialogue, [horrible? come on, it was classic star wars] I found the dialogue to be fresh and witty. The love scenes were corny but so were the love scenes in the OT. Love scenes on a huge scene ALWAYS seem corny when they're payed on the big screen]

Seeing it again tonight at 10:40 a The Grove theater in Los Angeles!

Revenge of the Sith = 9

and I always wonder why noone when doing this type of thing or a post release thread includes a poll.....and just have an "out of 5 or 10" type thing......

Interesting article over at Rotten Tomatoes:

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/c...entryid=197859

Basically, they tossed out the current review scores for the original trilogy and went back to the contemporary reviews. Turns out that, if you go by the reviews that came out at the time each film was released, the prequels actually rank higher than every OT film other than the original:

83% - Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
79% - Star Wars
65% - Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
62% - Star wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
52% - The Empire Strikes Back
31% - Return of the Jedi

0.0 for every prequel.

I am officially a hater. Sorry.
Two viewings and I'd give it an 8.5.

The performances are what do it for me. Never thought I'd say that about a Star Wars flick.
After my first viewing of ROTS, I'd give it an 8.5.

I'm not ashamed to say that I actually enjoyed the first two prequels and ROTS is no different. Ep. I is decent, Ep. II is good, and Ep. III is great. That's not to say that I don't recognize the problems in each film, but none of the flaws were so bad (to me) that it rendered the films unwatchable, as some people seem to think.

And as for the whole "horrible acting, horrible dialogue" thing, go back and watch the OT. There weren't exactly any oscar winners in there either. With the exception of a few performances, Star Wars has always had mediocre acting.
Absolutely, the performances were amazing! Ewan, Hayden, Ian, they BELIEVED, and as a result I BELIEVED. Again, this is from someone who has been oh so critical of the prequels thus far. Portman seemed a bit weak to me [did Lucas forget she was a senator? she didn't seem to do much but walk around]. But again, this film is brilliance, I'm seeing it again soon, I'm excited all over again YAHOO!!!
thats another thing that leads me to believe alot of the people complaining of "bad dialouge/bad acting" this time around have just been so blinded by their hate of the last two movies that they failed to realize Hayden, Ewan and Ian and even YODA put in some great performances. You just cannot sit there and tell me with a straight face that they were as stiff and lifeless in this movie as they were in AOTC, thats just complete bullshit. Im not saying these guys deserve Oscars but Jesus, come on now.
I give a 10 because the movie was aswesome. IT is now the darkest film of the saga, and the emotion in the movie, especially the scenes with Anakin and Obiwan before and after the duel. It was amazing. The best star wars movie in imo.
"in imo"

in in my opinion
After my initial viewing I'd give it a...

6

In the rottentomatoes system that's teetering on the brink between "rotten" and "fresh". That's exactly how I feel about the film.

OK, rankings, in order of release, with one qualification:

ANH: 7/10
ESB: 10/10
ROTJ: 7/10
TPM: 6/10
AOTC: 8/10

ROTS: 9/10

Except the first half of ANH gets a 10/10.

That's the only way I can describe it for myself. The original Star Wars movie is untouchable but the first half (up to where Alderaan is destroyed, I suppose) is absolutely golden whereas I tend to get bored by the rest of it (but probably because I've seen it so many times; these rankings can't be accurate since I don't have the same amount of experience with the newer movies as with the old).

I think it's a testament to both Temura Morrison & Ewan McGregor in this film that both actors pull off their scenes very well, despite the lack of actor's directing. (Morrison has very few scenes, but the troopers in this film have alot more personality crammed into their short scenes than all of his work in Clones.)

Episode I - 4.0

Episode II - 6.0

Episode III - 8.5

Episode IV - 9.5

Episode V - 10.0 + + + + + (Favorite movie ever)

Episode VI - 7.5 (Overall, lower than Sith, but still packs a greater emotional whallop)
A solid 8 with expectations this will not lower much over time, and may even increase a bit. I'm still waiting to see how I feel after a while, as AotC fooled me a bit, or more to the point, I fooled myself. I don't think I'm doing that this time. I really liked the movie. So, to join in the fray, or frey, or freigh...whatever:

1) Empire (duh.0)
2-4) New Hope, Jedi, Sith (all very close)
5) Clones (I like everything but the talking and the cartoon characters)
6) Menace (a good official "Fan-Edit" type of version would do this and AotC A LOT of good)
