So I just got the firefly boxset

And I gotta say im impressed with the series so far. I've only watch the first episode which is two hours long and I loved it. Of course I am a Whedon fan, but I wasn't sure I was going to like this. I mean I liked Buffy and Angel but they were sorta in the same universe and this was something out of that whole thing. Id seen the two movies written by Joss, Buffy the vampire slayer the movie and Alien Resurrection and they sucked. Plus im not really big on Space movies in general. I hate Star Trek, Star Wars(well not hate but not really that into it), really im not even really into anything to do with aliens( except of course for the alien and predator series but they really weren't space movies, more horror films). But then I saw the Serenity trailer online and it actually got me hyped to see the movie so I figred I might as well buy the box set and so far im blown away.

Oh and for anyone who knows, how does the series and film fit together? Does the film take place after the series, or does te film just kinda act as if there wasn't a series at all?

it's a continuation of the series

it goes deeper into unanswered questions not touched on in the short-lived series.

There is an absolutely beautiful moment in the second episode that made me fall in love with the show. The first episode was so-so, I thought. And the really great ones come later in the series. But check out "The train job", you'll know what I'm talking about after you see it.
And don't nobody go spoilin' it for him now, hear?

Enjoy the set. Glad to see people still discovering the series.

That scene sold me on the whole series.

umm...I'm not very bright?

Yeah, I don't know what you are talking about either. I just watched the series for the first time within the last month and I didn't really think that highly of The Train Job. If either of you would like to share, I'd love to know which scene you are talking about.

Yeah just watched the train job and bushwhacked, and I think hes talking about the scene at the end where the villian gets kicked into the thruster(or whatever) but yeah it was a cool lil moment and VERY unexpected. I gotta say it was good, didn't love bushwhacked though, wasn't bad but it really didn't measure up with the other two.
well hell, I forgot about that moment...been awhile since I've seen the entire run.

OK Frank, you got me. I should have known it was that scene.

Yeah, that's it. Comes out of nowhere, a real "Han shoots first"-moment. Plus, Bryniarski (sp?) is at least a little known and had the possibility of being a recurring villain. It takes some balls to do that, that's why I was so sold afterwards. That, and it's funny as hell. Enjoy the show.

Yeah I've really been burning through these episodes. I just finished Ariel which means I only got 5 left. Im actually a lil sad that my new found favorite series is running out. Thank god the movies coming in what september?
Yeah, the Train Job was a rushed affair...Fox wanted an hour-long, action pilot after they saw the intended 2-hr pilot, so they had to throw an ep together quickly.

I still like it though...only ep I don't like is the Witch Hunt in A Small Town ep with River.

I wasn't that fond of Jaynestown myself. But War Stories and Heart of Gold ("They're whores." -"I'm in.") are both about as good as the show gets.

Well I finished it and whew that was some good stuff in there. Although I gotta say I didn't love the last episode.

"Objects in Space"? I thought that was a good one. Early's performance was interesting. I was kind of hoping he'd be in the film, but Ejiofor should be decent.
Early was a very good villain, I must admit -- but The Operative is much, much cooler.
Ejiofor killed in Melinda and Melinda. I'm looking forward to seeing his villain.

He's one of the best parts of the movie. A great villain, while never seeming very villainous.

The Firefly DVD set is currently ranked 18th on Amazon.com. It's on sale for $29.99. If you've put off buying it or would like another copy, now is your chance.

"Yep . . . here I am."

I watched the whole series just last weekend for the first time. I was hooked from the first episode. As each one went by I grew a bit more distressed because I knew there were only a few more to go. I'm very much looking forward to Serenity in the fall (the trailer made a whole lot more sense after seeing the series). Such a shame that it didn't survive on television...

For those comic fans out there, there will be a 3 issue series from Dark Horse coming out later this summer that takes place between the television series and the film.

I have a friend who absolutely hates the show, but he can't seem to give me a good reason. It mostly seems to be hatred for Joss Whedon...

This is my "cherry poppin'" thread I posted when I saw the series for the first time....

Three times later, it still owns my cattle.

AND I AM DYING TO GET TICKETS FOR THE 23rd!!!!
I ordered this from the library a few weeks ago. Not sure what to expect.

Expect action, drama, comedy, sci-fi and a little thing I like to call greatness.

Yea, just expect greatness.

I ignored the show when it was still on TV. But then I saw the trailer for "Serenity" and was psyched. I heard it was like a western in space.

So yes, I'm a bandwagoner.
Havun rented the whole set twice I finally placed an order for it online, should get it soon, then I can watch it with my friend who i'm taking to the advance screening.......

For anyone thinking about buying this but isn't sure Sci-Fi is showing all the firefly episodes again. I saw the first one on friday at 7, I think. Well anyway check your local listing and see if you can get a feel for the series.
Sci-Fi is showing all the episodes, including the ones Fox never aired. And in the proper order.
So I finally got this from the library on Friday. I'm halfway through the second disc and I have to say, I'm enjoying it. I'm still trying to figure out if it was a good thing that I didn't watch the show when it was on or not. I'm not sure I would've liked it or not.

I had no idea that it was part western. I also like the fact that some of the people use contemporary weapons. I thought that was a nice touch.
Wish I would have watched it when it was on....
bought it and seriously love it.
can't wait for the movie.
I finished watching this last night and I'm officially a fan. I know what I'll be doing on the weekend of September 30.
I think it's better if you didn't watch it during its original run on Fox, because of the shuffled episode order and the omissions. I think my favorite ep is "Trash".

"I SHAVED MY BEARD FOR YOU, DEVIL WOMAN!"

One comfort about the series being so short is that you can get a fix by watching the whole thing over again pretty easliy. Sometimes I watch it in French just to mix things up.

Out of Gas is my favorite by far. Most of Edlund's work on the show falls flat to me, like he's writing for these characters as though they exist in the Buffyverse.

Out of Gas is also my favorite, but didn't Edlund write Jaynestown? That one has some great moments.
