Sigh...Hostel

Mr Self Proclaimed Horror savior is making another movie - Hostel

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450278/

And he got one of the leads from Dumb and Dumberer.

I actually have high hopes for Mr Roth, but a movie about backpackers facing horror in Europe doesn't sound that exciting. Unless John Landis is directing.

I know two people who've visted the set and "backpackers in Europe" is barely the beginning.

I think it's going to be pleasingly, relentlessly grim.

It also Takeshi Miike in it.

After staying in a few hostels, I can honestly say the scariest part isn't the chance of being abducted and disected by some psycho killer. It's the unisex bathrooms where you never know whether the person in the next shower is the kind you'd like to accidently see, or will claw your eyes out should you actually look.

Now that I read it, that paragraph is probably a lot creepier than I meant it to be...

I stayed in a hostel once, in Wales.

It was surrounded by demon sheep, coincidentally.

I trust a script of this demonic sheep experience is in the works? If so, I'll let you use the title "Wool" as it appears I will be unable to get my "Wool" movie, about '70's porn stars, made.

Man, I never got unisex bathrooms in any of the hostels I stayed in, that could have been fun. Fun and potentially creepy.

John Fawcett's new picture the Dark has this very ovine plot device as its central threat (so he says).

Surely that wins the gold medal for Most Pointless Use Of Christopher Lee In An Unrelated Prologue?

Well, maybe the Silver if you include Russel Mulcahy's Talos The Mummy which surely featured, along with Sir Christopher, one of the strangest casts ever assembled for a half-baked horror film: Jason Scott Lee, Honor Blackman, Gerard Butler, Jack Davenport, Sean Pertwee and - in a shotgun wielding cameo - Arfur From EastEnders.

And most of them die ! Oooooh, bandages !

In fact Sir Chris predates Jason X pitiful-in-comparison ceramic body shatter by a good year or so I think...

Eh. I liked it I think, odd throwback cast and all.

You know, Neil Morrisey is producing THE ISLAND. Small world, Dr Jones.

I dunno, I like the look of these pictures...

I hear that Roth hadn't seen any Takashi Miike before CABIN FEVER and now, since he's overdosed on them, HOSTEL's gonna be one big Miike clusterfuck. Which is an idea I oved.

Perhaps I'm not the best to voice an opinion on this, since moment b moment CABIN FEVER was the type of movie I would have made, but this looks like a big departure, and I hope it's great. Hey, hostels are scary.
