High Tension question

Any word on what the rating will end up being? I'm too lazy to look it up right now. In other words are all these cool clips I'm seeing lately actually going to be in the movie or should I just wait for the unrated DVD.
The things getting chopped for an R rating. Don't know what exactly is getting cut though.

The clips should be in there, but the unrated cut has a couple of brutal scenes that likely got trimmed back a bit to get the R. Shouldn't actually affect anything storywise, but gorefans will probably be a little disappointed.

Thanks, guys. The first trailer I saw for it in the theater didn't really make me want to see it but these clips are getting my curiosity peaked. I'm just kinda scared to spend my hard earned money on it after getting burned so bad by the awesome trailers for Saw then the movie itself being a major letdown for me.

Having not seen the European cut for comparison, I will say that the U.S. release is REALLY gritty-gorey-nasty. A total of one minute was cut from the whole thing, so it shouldn't be too different, just enough to avoid an NC-17.

Of course, I will have to get the import DVD. For research and comparison.

One minute may not seem like a lot of time, but when you consider the fact that it takes less than 2.5 seconds to show a head explode...

Wow!

I have to admit, eventhough I figured out the big twist 5 minutes into the film, it was a good. The bit with the dad was just ....OUCH!!!

Also, at the beginning when they showed her back, she looked like our friend Freddy had scratched it for her yet they never show how it came to be that way was that something that was cut out or what?

High Tension

I've been looking for a forum to talk about this film... and why I hate it.

Actually, I did like it up to 45 minutes into the film until... well you know, that "original plot twist."
All I can say as far the scene with the father (trying to to give spoilers) the twist made no sense.
I was left disappointed but Aja and his team are quite a talented bunch. The beginning of the film was the most disturbing to me ( and I think you know what part(s) I''m talking about). I was looking forward to being scared out of my mind (or head). This film had the right idea but just didn't do it for me, I was not even one of those people that came in with high expectations, I was just hoping it would stick with the formula and have a really gory, slasher film with a Micheal Meyers/Jason Vorhees type of killer, but not by a long shot did that "suprise (who the fuck was suprised) ending" work.

I loved this shit. Old-school all the way. A friend of mine downloaded this a couple of months ago.

For those having problems, let me say that the scene where the 'killer' is jacking off with the severed head is the point where the short-haired chick snaps. If you look closely, the head is a dead-ringer for Alex.

Once I realized that, it helped me to enjoy this sleazy fun.

Who would have thunk it, this flick is French!

i'm confused about the twist ending. What clues are we given during the film that point to it? Why is she fighting the fat man? Who drove both the truck and the yellow sports car? is it supposed to fit logically? is it all hallucination?

I'ld say the bitch imagined it all.

She´s a schizo.
I think...

Who's truck is it?

gah..it's not that difficult... think of it like this:

it's all a dream... but it's not..it's her telling the story as it is in HER head... until the "twist" is revealed then it's kind of a mix of her imagination's POV and what actually happened... in other words, the truck wasn't really there, and what you see happen on screen that's from her imagination's POV - likely didn't really happen either (or at least not as we saw it happen)...

for one - she'd have to be relaying the story in bits and pieces - as the victim, she wouldn't have witnessed the father getting killed the way he did - so thats a piece of the story that gets filled in for us... in other words - she may have said something to the like of... "his head was smashed off"... to which we are given a much more detailed vision...

so yes - she, in a sense, imagined it all... at least as the viewer sees it...

what hints? lines like... regarding her dream - "me chasing myself"

it might be a shitty/simple explanation but it's also a pretty shitty/simple twist

That was the line that gave it all away for me.

Just saw this about 2 weeks ago. I liked it.

That one line did give away the twist. It hit me about half way through the movie when I remembered the line, up until that point I wasn't really thinking. When it comes to this sort of movie, that's probably a good thing.

The face bashing with barbwire was pretty cool. I don't know why, but the one part that stuck in my head is when she takes the plastic off his face and it just keeps sticking. So good.

Most of the deaths were really uncomfortable type deaths (not that any death would be comfortable) and that makes it so much more brutal.

Ok I haven't seen this movie and I really don't want to now but just to be clear. Did she imagine EVERYTHING? Did anyone actually get killed? Was she the one actually doing the killing?

Why did you spoil yourself?

Every twist looks stupid on paper. Considering the twist in this film, as dumb as it is, it's carried out very well, and the film is extremely well crafted.

But yes, she is the killer, and many bodies lie in her wake at film's end.

Because I kept hearing about this stupid twist and if it was that stupid I didn't want to see the ovie in the first place and sure enough I don't want to see it. Listen I don't give a fuck how good the gore is if it turns out shes the killer. This twist has been done 100 times and this isn't anything new. ANd as for it being caried through well........I hear theres some fuckups with that too. So no I won't see it, but don't worry it's not like me not seeing it will affect the box office records my shitty theatre didn't get it anyway.

For me, it wasn't just how good the gore looks, but how well the movie was crafted. The movie is just an effective and well made slasher with enough nastiness to give it quite the edge. I have the unrated dvd where it is titled Switchblade Romance.

I knew going in that the twist was substandard, but it did not ruin anything for me. The movie is very good.

It certainly isn't as crappy a 'twist' as say, The Sixth Sense which ultimately had zero payoff and imo sucked because of it. High Tension has mucho payoff.
