After six years in the making, perhaps the most ambitious independent Star Trek parody film ever is done. This is actually the sixth film in the Star Wreck series. The previous ones have been a lot of fun and I can't wait for this. The trailer has been online at the official site for a while now. http://www.starwreck.com/

We are proud and happy to inform you, that the wait is over. Star Wreck: In The Pirkinning has reached the point, when we finally are ready to set the release & premiere date:
The historical date is: 20.8.2005.

Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning is an epic science fiction parody. Production of the film begun six years ago, the original intention being to produce a 15-minute special effects clip. Our ambition grew in pace with our abilities, however. Apart from the title, the film we are about to release has very little in common with our first drafts.

Humility stops us from proclaiming this film a piece of Finnish cinema history. The truth is, however, that In the Pirkinning will be the first movie produced in Finland to contain lots of high quality special effects, space combat and no-holds-barred action in a science fiction environment.

I saw this today and it was even better than I expected. The actors were of course amateurs, but they all gave their best. The story was pretty clever and the jokes were good. The biggest star was the special effects which were amazing for a fan made film like this.

One of the writers and the director were there to answer guestions after the film and they said one of the reasons they made it was to show that it's possible to make technically competent special effects in Finland and that there is an audience for Finnish scifi. Their goal is to next make a serious scifi film with real financing and bigger budget.

The whole film will be freely downloadable at the official site in two weeks. I think a lot of the humour will be lost in the subtitles. For example the parody of Scotty, a technical engineer who speaks in a certain Finnish accent.
