What's the last movie you watched? - Page 4

caught Whale Rider on the local PBS channel this afternoon. Was kind of shocked to see it on there since i know thats where all of their pledge drive money went. Sorry Sesame Street, we don't have money to maintain the muppets, we have to buy the rights to Whale Rider.

All in all a good movie. Was just kind of suprised to see it on PBS, but a bit thankful also.

WEDDING CRASHERS.

Funny enough to recommend. The football and dinner scenes in particular were comedy gold.

Last weekend's viewing

The Talented Mr. Ripley (took me awhile to get round to watching this but well worth it)

When Worlds Collide (I'm a sucker for 50's sc-fi & hadn't seen this for years)

The Limey (as a Limey living in the USA this cracked me up!!)

The Wall (I'm a Floyd fan but this movie is SERIOUSLY fucked up!)

Open Range (My brother in law told me this was a good movie & I have to agree with him)

A mixed bag of stuff that's made me want to do the same again next weekend !

Watched The Truman Show in my hotel Saturday night. Reminded me how much I like this movie, and will be picking up the Special Edition DVD soon.

Saw Wedding Crashers Monday night, and highly enjoyed it. I laughed like a mofo, and I'm now officially in love with Rachel McAdams.

Just watched 13th Warrior, and while it definetly doesn't stand out as a great film, it's not a bad film either.

I liked how straight forward it was, some cool gore (at least 3 decapitations), and it was short and sweet. 10 bucks at Circuit City.

The sound (just Dolby 5.1) was pretty decent for a bare bones, but widescreen disc.

Antonio Bander-bare-ass was fine in it, he was sort of a Prince of Persia type character (without all the acrobatics), and the now stereotypical gang of tough guys (vikings here) were all good.

The only thing it was missing was some naked chick bouncing up and down, and even more gore/blood would have been cool.

Someone mentioned this was a guilty pleasure of theirs, and I don't think you should feel guilty about it, this movie doesn't deserve all the shit I remember it getting when it came out in theaters.

Just watched I Heart Huckabees last night and thought it was pretty rad.

"Have you ever transcended time and space?"
"Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

That just killed me. Also, flame if you must, thought Marky Mark was perfect in this movie.

DAYS OF HEAVEN by Terry Malick. I rather enjoy that film.

Gozu.
Surprisingly unbloody Takahashi Miike flick.
Have you ever seen a woman give birth to an adult man?
No? Then check out Gozu now.

Wedding Crashers.

My wife & I loved it. Owen Wilson pales next to Vince Vaughan though.

100 percent right!

I Heart Huckabees is hilarious, I'm so glad my friend Lemonade made me watch it.

Alexander: Director's Cut

Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind

If the DC of Alexander is "faster paced" I hate to think what the theatrical release was like!

As for Confessions, that was surprisingly good. Really enjoyed that.

I caught Love, Actually last night because my girlfriend has been trying to get me to watch it for months now, despite my best efforts. I graciously accepted defeat and let her enjoy her moment of triumph, because I absolutely loved it. It was a really great movie.

Afterwards we watched Starship Troopers, which is probably one of my top 5 guilty pleasure movies. She ended up loving that. So it was a good night.

Finally watched Closer last night, and while I really enjoyed it, it made me extremely paranoid about my girlfriend (she lives in D.C.).

Near Dark
Great concept. Great performances. Terrible ending.
Best line: "Howdy. I'm gonna separate your head from your shoulders. Hope you don't mind none."
Next up: The Good Girl... I'm in hock with the fiancee and she picked this film.

March of the Penguins.

Great film but 20 minutes too long.

Saw a Double Bill of "For A Few Dollars More" and "A Fistful of Dollars" at a local theater.
Definitely worth the 5 dollars.

American Ninja 4.

I saw Beverly Hills Cop and Saturday Night Fever on , surprisingly, Saturday.

Night of the Hunter last night on TCM. Cool movie, weird as all hell. Not sure what I thought of the ending, but I liked it, I know that. Full on religious psycho Mitchum singing those Jesus songs, scary shit. Why I didn't watch this movie years ago, I don't know, but you gotta pace yourself I guess.

I wanted to see that. I might get from the library this weekend.

King Arthur: Director's Cut.

The Devil's Backbone - I easily think it's del Toro's best. Just wonderful stuff.

I love that movie Chest. Actually, love isn't a strong enough word.

Sympathy for mister Vengenace - First part in Chan-wook Park´s revenge trilogy.(Oldboy is the second)

Man from Hong Kong - Excellent 70s kung-fu flick. If you wanna see former James Bond, George Lazenby get a handgrenade shoved in his mouth, then you need to see this film.

Django - Spaghetti western classic with Franco Nero.
This guy is just as cool as Clint Eastwood.Too bad about the crappy dubbing.

Black Mama, White Mama - Wip film with blaxploitation queen Pam Grier.Damn, she´s really hot!

I don't know if it counts as a film, but i rented Eddie Izards Glorious from netflix and got it in yesterday and enjoyed it. I have seen better sets that he has done, but no complaints. It is either a hit or miss with some of his bits and i think the american audience doesnt help that much. I am going to watch Pauly Shore is Dead tonight. Hope it's worth the rent.

I watched Puppet Master the other night and I can't decide whether I loved it or hated it.

It was the weirdest mixture of good, bad and so bad it's good that I've ever seen, one minutes it's boring and cheesy and the next minute it turns into soft core porn with leeches.

I also rewatched Bus Stop recently, it's the only real acting performance I've ever seen by Marilyn Monroe.

Memories of Murder, which was great.

and

Kung Fu Hustle, which I enjoyed much more the second time, and I have an all new appreciation for.

A Very Long Engagement. Very easy to lose track of who's who on occasion, but overall, beautiful movie.

Harold and Kumar: R-rated. Taped it off Starz a while back, wanted something funny.
It was. NPH rules!

Finally got a chance to check out Coffee and Cigarettes last night, it really is an awesome piece of work, and not just because it features so many of my favorite artists.

I also saw this for the first time today uncut, and definitely the unsung Leone film. Steiger is magnificent in this movie, and I'm a renowned Steiger basher.

Tarnation. Holy fucking shit, Jonathan Caouette had a rough life. For those who haven't seen the film, it's a documentary about Jonathan's schizophrenic mother and his grandparents...the grandparents had forced their daughter to submit to 3 years of shock treatments (twice a week!!!!) as a young adolescent, even though there was nothing really wrong with her. Add in some psychedelic drugs, and her mind was fried for life. The movie also covers Jonathan's own struggle with past physical abuse at the hands of foster parents, his subsequent depression, drug abuse, teen rebellion, and confused sexuality. The film is pieced together from home video, answering machine messages and student films spanning 20-some years, and edited on Jonathan's home computer, if I remember correctly. Fucking incredible and moving piece of work. I highly recommend it.

25th Hour - I love this film. One of the only Spike Lee "joints" I can rewatch over and over.

I heart Huckabees. That movie is so fucking funny.

Detroit Rock City.

...Male strippers! Drugs! Kiss!

Dude, best movie ever.

Wild Bill

Jeff Bridges is excellent as usual. I love Walter Hill's use of black and white in flashback sequences. They looked like old western photographs.

Sin City. I still haven't seen a Rodriguez movie I liked.

Being John Malkovich. One of the weirdest movies I have ever seen.

Samurai Cop, Kriminal, and Casablanca.

It was my first time seeing Kriminal (Italian Language only), a fumetti based, Umberto Lenzi venture, and not exactly the best movie ever.
It's a rather toned down adaptation of the comics, which is odd, considering Lenzi is at the helm.

Secretary.

Weird, disturbing, and yet really intriguing, I think I'm going to need to watch it a couple more times before I figure out how I feel about it. I sort of alternated between being creeped out and uncomfortable and really enjoying it. There was some great dark humour in there too.

Layer Cake.

Really liked this one. I enjoyed Lock,Stock & Snatch to certain degree but this was much better. Great cast, good story...what more can you ask for?
The Ballad of Jack and Rose. Well, about 3/4 of it. It's not Daniel Day Lewis' greatest film, but I can watch him in just about anything (Boxer and In the Name of the Father are notable favorites).

Boys Don't Cry.

Wow, I just rewatched this for the first time in about a year, it hit me the same way it did the first time I saw it. Kimberly Peirce really knows what she's doing behind the camera, the fact that she hasn't directed anything since is kind of surprising.

I caught Zatoichi on Starz. I watched it after pulling a 12 hour shift at work, so I didn't give it my full attention. The dude with the spear was funny as hell, but I never figure out who he was or why he was there. An incredible film nonetheless.

Sahara.

Throwaway fun. Glad I didn't pay to see it on the big screen but worth a rent. Reminds me of the old movies they used to show un Sunday afternoons when I was a kid.

Oldboy.

Picked this up after reading about it on good ol' CHUD. Very bizarre movie, & what a mindfuck they pull on the guy!

Ong Bak.

Again, read about it here & decided to give it a go. I used to love martial arts movies but I became disillusioned with the wire work too many films use now, so this was a real treat for me. Damn, can Tony Jaa move or what?

Sexy Beast.

I like these kind of films although it did feel a little empty plot wise, & I couldn't believe what a wimp Ray Winstone was in it. Not his usual role at all. As for Ben Kingsley, I still can't believe I heard that much profanity from him! Very twitchy character there.
