Future Batman animated releases?

With the last batch of the original run now out, has warners given any word on when or if we'll see the last batch of episodes, the ones that featured the redesigns and the new Robin? I snap these bad boys up, and I desperately want a complete collection, and I hope they get around to season sets of Justice League as well.

I imangine if they release them, they'll release it under the offical name of "The Adventures of Batman and Robin".

Actually, to the best of my knowledge, that was the name of the series during the end of its run on Fox (Not so much an official title, the opening credits were still "Batman : The Animated Series", but that was the direction Fox and Warner Bros. were pushing the show at the time). The WB series, featuring the redesigned characters (go Shane Glines! Woowoo!) was "The New Batman/Superman Adventures".

I really wish they'd gotten the full "Gotham Knights" go ahead, and had Nightwing and The Creeper as more regular characters.

i just hope we get all the gotham knights shows. Damn you warners, well, at least all 3 of the dvd sets came out pretty damn quickly

Yea I am also looking forward to the completion of all the Batman related work that Dini/Timm worked on. There are a 5-6 real gems in the "Gotham Knights" era of the show.

There were some stinkers on the WB (Baby Doll & Croc, I'm looking at you, here), but episodes like "Legends of the Dark Knight", "Fearless", "Beware the Creeper", "Mad Love" and "Over the Edge" more than make up for them.

I really hope we a Creeper-centric episode of JLU.

Actually, I'm glad you brought it up. I was looking at the series(s)(s) on imdb the other day, trying to figure out what they were all called. It's surprisingly confusing, especially given the way they screened down here in Australia (always as "Batman", but they didn't play Beyond or Superman, but did play Justice League at 4am for about a month).

My understanding is the show was "Batman: The Animated Series". After that they made "Batman Beyond". There's also a "Superman" show, and then a "Justice League". I've heard that other program titles simply contain episodes from these shows.

Standalone movies aside (like the Batman/Superman movie and the Return of the Joker), do the above four series contain all the episodes? Or is there perhaps another series I've missed?

Cheers.

The australian thing probably won't make this much easier.

Without doing any research, which I am sure someone is going to be doing and posting here shortly...

Batman: TAS aired originally on FOX starting in 92 i think?

When WB became a network and started its KIDS WB lineup they bought back the rights to Batman: TAS and commissioned new episodes with a emphasis on more of the younger supporting crew, getting a younger robin, bringin in batgirl full time, having nightwing show up every now adn then...they called it The New Adventures of Batman and Robin...I believe they also showed a bunch of the old TAS episodes also every now and then

Superman had its own run no complications. It actually aired on Kids WB.

Justice League was commissioned by the Cartoon Network and has been the home of the Dini/Timm style and continuity of the DC universe ever since.

Consult this website for more info on the order of the Batman series, it gets confusing.....but essentially they start as Batman: The Animated Series then become the Adventures of Batman and Robin [this can be noted by the change in the opening during vol. 3, though the original opening is much better, but really the only change borught upon the creators was the inclusion of Robin full-time.] then it becomes New Batman Adventures, then it goes to Batman Beyond.

The batman-superman movie is a three part super-man series arc from seasson 2. Ill be giving the dvd with just those on it away as soon as season 2 of superman comes out.

I think what makes it most confusing is that the intro remained the same (with some minor, almos tindeterminable changes here and there) until they started doing the Batman/Superman adventures (they'd do a full hour, one half deticated to a Batman episode, the other one, a Supes episodes), which was totally different. So when people talk about Gotham Knights or The New Adventures of Batman & Robin, it's almos timpossible to tell where in the series these occured because you only know which era it came from when the end credits roll (the Batman & Robin run had the two against a red moon). I never understood why/how it got so confusing even before WB switched it to their network (man, their Saturday lineup used to be good. What the hell happened to Saturday mornings?)

oh god, those kinds of shows suck. I'm sure if i was 6 id love them, but damn, im glad im older than that. And that new batman cartoon is dreadful in the most unpleasant of ways.

Cheers for that -- particularly the website, Choc -- it's cleared things up a bit.

I'm guessing that, as the first three DVDs cover down to the end of the Batman & Robin show, they'll do another two sets for the New Batman Adventures; I'm now confused enough to have no idea whether I've seen that one or not...

You forgot "Old Wounds," my favorite episode of the "new" series. The confrontation between Bruce and Dick at the end is fantastic - the kind of drama and series continuity you never see in these "kid's" shows, though of course, "Over the Edge" and "Mad Love" had it in spades, too.

Here's a question: when is the next volume of Superman coming out? I want Mr. Mxyzptlk on DVD, damn it.

Seeing how after a quick count they add to 27 + Worlds Finest i'd expect it to be only one set, not two, and that'd be cool if they had extra coverage on Worlds Finest, it being somewhat of a DTV movie.

I've never seen the New Adventures [not counting flicking through it on T.V. without a glimpse of course] so that'll be a treat when it releases...

Batman Beyond never interested me but it'll be nice to see the R' Al Ghul and Mr. Freeze episodes.

I loved the Batman Beyond take on the character, to me it was a great mesh of Bruce as wounded mentor, and as much as Terry was essentialy a mix of Peter Parker and young Bruce, to me it just clicked. Bruce's reason for giving up the cowl in the first episode still gives me chills, just seeing the fear and desperation in his eyes when he aims that gun...wow. I understand why people don't dig it, but I enjoy most of the episodes and hope we'll see that run on DVD as well.

"World's Finest" was awesome.

Batman Beyond didn't have as dark and noir-ish a feel as the original Animated series, but it was a fantastic show.

I was very skeptical of it, but I learned a lesson, never doubt Bruce Timm and Paul Dini. It was a fantastically crafted action adventure show with nice bits of the batman mythology expounded on.
Batman Beyond was a completely different show than the traditional Batman animated series. It was still excellent, and "Return of the Joker" belongs in any Batman fan's collection.
I don't care for Batman Beyond. To me it didn't have many of the things that I personally enjoy about the character. Still, from what I saw it still had a higher standard of quality than most cartoons. I would have rather seen more Gotham Knights episodes though.

See the Ra's episode of BB as soon as you can. Truly shows just how crazy and power-hungry he is. Plus with a lot of stuff from Bruce and Talia, that episode holds its own with some of the best of B:TAS.
That's the thing about BB... he's not the same character. I think that's why people had issues, because he's not Bruce Wayne. Once you get past that, it's an amazing show, and RETURN OF THE JOKER is as good a Batflick as you'll get.

Return of the Joker is utterly fantastic. I showed it to one of my buddies who is just as big an animated series fan as I am, and he was floored by it, good creepy dark stuff there, and I love the way Terry ultimately disposes of Joker Redux. I don't mean the electricity thing, but the fact that he does the one thing Bruce never did, he laughs in the Joker's face, and it pisses him off royaly. "I'll break you in two." is one of the greates lines ever delivered by Kevin Conroy as Batman. I remember when WB was floating the Live action version of Batman Beyond as a possibility and having Conroy play the 80 year old Bruce would have been incredible, true, he looks nothing like a comic book Bruce, but damn, he owns that interpretation of Batman. On a side note, I tried to watch that awful Gotham Girls online serial, its awful, awful awful. Couldn't even make it through one chapter.

Sadly I don't think Bit torrent even has that episode.

You can't really make a blanket statement like that with BT. It's so much more dispersed than something like the original Napster. Hard to know WHAT is out there being shared by some small group of fans...

Anyway, I loved Batman Beyond, too. I have quite a few on CD somewhere. What's the name of the episode in question?

Uncreatively enough, it's called "Out of the Past".

My particular favorite episode of the series was "Shriek", because it had the best use of sound I've ever seen on TV.

Batman Beyond was as good as it could have been given the constrains Timm and co. were given. Personally, I would have wanted a more adult character as the next Bat, or barring that, someone more independent. Terry was never really more than Bruce's "errand boy" as the Joker put it, so he never felt like Batman to me; he was more another Robin with a different suit. I actually thought that Bruce should have died at some point early in the series, so Terry could really take on the mantle of the Bat.
I also felt the show went too far away from the noir, detectivc aspects of the orginal series into obsession with all the future gadgets and the ensuing fisticuffs. Of course, that had already starting happening with the revamped WB series, but I was really hoping for a Blade Runnerish-future noir take with the series and didn't get it. Timm and co. were presumably required to produce an action-packed "Buffy" style show that appealed more to teens, though, so what can you do.
