Going to Vegas For a Few Days

My wife and I are going to Vegas in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if any of you had recommendations for shows to catch? We saw the Amazing Jonathan last time. My wife wants to see Cirque du Soleil’s O at the Bellagio, but those guys have never done much for me. I’m thinking Penn and Teller would be cool. Any tips?

Thanks,
Mike

Buy your show tickets before you leave (online). It's easier to pick them up if you're a little further out than day of. That said, O is still going to cost a fortune.

I just came back from Vegas about a week ago. It was my second time there and I had a great time with friends. I saw my first show, which was the George Wallace comedy show at the Flamingo. He's a funny guy and the guy who opened up for him (forgot his name) was also pretty hilarious. Tickets are not too expensive, about 20 to 60 bucks. Viva! Las Vegas.

A. Are there really holes in the desert?
B. How many Elvis impersonators can be found in a square mile?
C. Are gorillas still spun on sparking crucifixes?
D. Do the cops respect you more if you accelerate when they flash their lights?

I just need to know if cinema is giving me a good education, you see.

Thanks for the help thus far. I took a look at vegas.com earlier and it is reasonably helpful. Mozilla takes care of the pop-ups. I think my wife would be ok with Penn and Teller, but if she really wants to go to “O” then I guess we might do that. Compromise in all things. I saw that the Wallflowers were playing at the House of Blues. We saw Fuel there several years ago and it wasn’t too bad. I’ll have to take another look and George Wallace.

Anyway, keep it coming.

The Show to See

If you want to get laid by the wifey, take her to Zumanity at New York, New York. That show is hotness and lit a fire under my wifes ample behind.

I'd recommend BLUE MAN GROUP at the Luxor and "Legends in Concert" at the Imperial Palace, because if you are going to Vegas, you have to see at least one Elvis impersonator. Plus, the Blue Brothers are really good too.

Yeah. It's funny. I see an impersonator about once every 6 months, but when I went to see a sneak of "6000 Miles to Graceland" or whatever that was called, there must have been 100 of them.

Blue Man is pretty cool and worth seeing. Just about anything you'd want to see costs a fortune.

I hear the new show at Wynn sucks, and is a rip-off of every other show on the strip.

I'd skip the show and go to the Sand Dollar bar. Near the strip (Spring Mountain and Polaris), and has live blues 7 nights a week.

Eat at the top fo the Stratosphere. It's kinda expensive, and the food is shit, but chicks dig it (Voodoo Lounge in the Rio is similar, but lacks the whole rotating-restaurant thing that girls love).

By the way, the only strip club in town that isn't entirely filled with ugly, fake-titty skanks is Lil' Darlings. On the other hand, if truly ugly skanks are your (or your wife's) cup of tea, go to Larry's Villa. They always have some chick in her 3rd trimester.

The wave of confetti that "drowns" the audience from the back makes the BLUEMAN GROUP worthwhile.

Just don't go on 'shrooms. That night fucked with me hard.

Well, we’ve opted for Penn and Teller. Tickets are a bit expensive, but what the heck. I’m pretty exited. It should be a good week. We are going to the United States Grand Prix and then flying straight to Vegas. Woo Hoo!

Have fun! The USGP should be great! And be prepared to walk when you are in Vegas!

There's a theater on the strip that is old school seating, kind of uncomfortable.

When I go to Vegas and catch a movie, I go to the Crown Neonopolis 14, on the old Strip. Nice, new theater, stadium seating.

I checked that out too...fuckin' $92 a ticket. That's Bullshit! (pun intended).

I'm heading out there with a couple of buddies in October. Hoping to hit it the same weekend as a UFC, but we're also trying to find other options as well. I'd like to hit a magic show of some type...maybe Lance Burton or...does that hot blonde chick still have a show? I'm really pissed because here's a few of the folks we miss by like a week:

Jerry Seinfeld
Dennis Miller (another $90 fuckin' ticket!)
George Carlin

Everyone seems to be off the weekend we're going, dammit. But hey, there's always the comedy stylings of George Wallace!

As for gambling, I like Roulette, and I'm cheap, so I always do the 50 cent tables (or are they a dollar...) at Barbary Coast.

If you want comedy and magic, sort of, then you should check out the Amazing Jonathan. We saw him during our last trip and had a pretty good time. If you haven’t seen him he is not your standard magic act. Pretty funny and the ticket prices are reasonable.

We sucked up the ticket price for Penn and Teller. It is still $25 less than “O” would have been. In all the trips we have made to Vegas this is the first time we’ve went to one of the big name shows. I guess it is time to splurge.

Yep, I think we're going to see him. I sent an e-mail to one of my friends that is going, and he confirmed. So I've got to go back out and get some tickets in the next few days. I saw him a while back at the Punchline here in Atlanta, and he was pretty damn funny, if I recall. I like it when he does the "Punk Magician"--"Screw you! It's magic! It's an illusion! I'm foolin' you and you don't like it!"

In the Fashion Show Mall on the strip there is a ticket both that sells half price show tickets. The catch is they're only for shows THAT day/night and you can't get them online.

I would check out KA at the MGM and if you two aren't prudes Zumanity at NYNY (I see that was metioned already). I saw Penn & Teller before, they were pretty good.

It's crowded this time of year and there's alot of construction going on, but if you're not driving it shouldn't be too bad.

Don't miss the dinner buffet at Paris! Paris!
They have four or five different buffet tables, and each one features cuisine from a different province of France. Great stuff.
