Again, that's the thing. This isn't nearly as big as hardcore Halo fans think it is. The general public doesn't care much about Halo, other than that it's a videogame, and most of them remember that pretty much every single videogame to movie translation has been shit. This isn't a sure bet. This isn't a surefire summer blockbuster. This isn't even that big of a deal.

Especially since DOOM is probably a bigger property, and the biggest names it got were The Rock and Eomer.

I'm having a hell of a time just trying to decipher whether or not someone is being sarcastic or not in this thread.

Well the same thing could have been said about the Spiderman movie, and look how good that turned out. Granted Spiderman had a much larger fanbace than Halo but general public didn't care that much about Spiderman. (other than the Few that watch the Cartoon and read the comics)

But the general public all know who Spider-Man IS.

Just like Batman and Superman, he's an American cultural icon.

Which a hell of a lot of people have done over the years in their childhood, seeing as both Spidey comics and toons have been running since the 60s.

Spider-Man has been around longer than Halo, given its reputation as a comic book. As Helix said, the general public at least has some knowledge of Spider-Man.

The general public has had close to fifty years to be inundated by knowledge of Spider-Man. Comics, cartoons, TV shows, posters, games, toys, underoos, you name it. Halo has nowhere near that kind of name recognition, and doubtfully will it ever. Characters like Mario get that kind of status because they're cute mascots, accessible to young children from the onset. Halo has no hook like that.

People will have heard of Halo, sure. But whether or not the name evokes anything more than "Yeah it was that video game I saw at BlockBuster" or "Wasn't that some kind of game or something?" in people's minds, well that's another story.

Which is why I think if they sneak in a great Sci-Fi movie under this title that would make it so that people not familiar with the game may check it out. Push the sci-fi elements in the trailers, try not to cater to what people who played the game think is cool, (i.e. no inside jokes involving Master Chief) and maybe you get people in the seats.

The presence of Keith David in Halo 2 elevates it above any kind of criticism that can be made by mortal man.

What I was trying to say was The General Public Didn't care about Spiderman. Yes they knew who he was but they didn't care enough to go pick up a comic. I used to get made fun of for liking Spiderman but now the movie is out that doesn't happen.

As far as Halo goes I'm glad their making it (until Uwe Boll gets his gruby little hands on it) but if it falls through then it wouldn't hurt my feelings. I'd much rather have no halo than a Bad Halo. If they do go through with this then their going to have to give Halo a mojor face lift before shiping it out to the big screen, other wise it will fall flat on its face.

Or just make a Red vs. Blue live-action, low-budget comedy; that's guarantee profit.

I like this. Microsoft needs to work on the 50-year plan.

First step? Halo underwear.

I was voting for Master Chief "personal massagers", myself.
