See Revenge This Father's Day Weekend, Get a Free Poster! Remember Dad taking you to see your first Star Wars film? Well it's time to return the favor at your local theater this Father's Day weekend where fans who see Revenge of the Sith will receive a free "Who's Your Daddy?" poster featuring cinema's most notorious patriarch, Darth Vader.
Available only this weekend, this exclusive 11 x 17-inch poster depicts the Dark Lord in an image recently used to promote Episode III on the international scene. This very limited poster will only be given to ticket holders who see Revenge of the Sith in a participating U.S. theater this Friday, Saturday or Sunday, June 17-19*, and will never be offered again. It's the only time this image will be used in a U.S. poster to promote the theatrical release of the film. Also, this is a chance to once again see the epic action of the Star Wars finale before it leaves the big screen.

Share the excitement of the very last Star Wars film with Dad this weekend, and take away this very cool exclusive poster as a keepsake. What better way to celebrate Father's Day than with the saga that belongs to all generations?

*While supplies last. Void where prohibited. Only at participating theaters. One poster per ticket purchased between 6/17 - 6/19.

man, am I the only one that thinks this is really lame?
I cringe every time I hear or see that expression.

However, I kind of like the first paragraph of the press release. Too bad I don't remember my dad taking me to see any Star Wars movies as a kid.
personally i remember having to drag my dad to see the re-releases of the films since he wanted to see them on the big screen, hates crowds and has a son who has to see things on the first weekend. granted i could have went with friends and been just fine, but it was great to see my dad walk out of Empire excited as hell for Jedi.

God, that's stupid. Actually worse than "Yo da Man" or whatever that embarassment was.

Who does marketing for Lucasfilm? Is it that Sansweet guy?

I love Star Wars, but the marketing just makes me want it to all go away for a long time.
Jim Ward is VP of Marketing for Lucasfilm... but not for much longer.
Who's Sansweet? or am I pulling that name out of thin air?

And "Who's your daddy?" makes me think of dirty things, not Star Wars nor my actual father.

Steve's the Director of Speciality Marketing, which makes him the Content Manager for starwars.com, Star Wars Insider and other official media outlets (relationships with Entertainment Weekly, TIME, etc) as well as head of Fan Relations (conventions, etc). He's in Marketing, but he doesn't work with Ward's team on trailers, one-sheets, and wacky ideas like "Yo da man" and "Who's your Daddy?". That's a different team.

I had to give these out at my theater. I think we successfully convinced five people to proudly take it.

Its perfectly cheesy. Where is the Grevious poster that says " I Heart Star Wars "?

The phrase is extra cheesy, but I like that picture very much.
people seem to be grabbing these things like crazy at my theater, with some people asking for them saying they saw the thing in the ad for them. i say if someone wants one, gladly give them 5 of them. it allows us to get rid of them, and they can pollute others with the posters.
if people can get anything for free, they will usually take it. these posters are no different.

He's also the jumper who sues Mr. Incredible for saving his life. Makes sense that he's in marketing.

Not to doubt you, what have you heard to make you say that? Almost seems pointless to fire him now, doesn't it? I mean, was Jim Ward in charge of the advance marketing for The Phantom Menace ? Hard to believe, considering how the campaigns for Clones and Sith paled by comparison. When I saw the Episode II teaser image for first time, I remember thinking about how amateur it looked -- the irony being that the so many amateurs had produced superior looking, or at least more creative efforts with Photoshop in their spare time -- not to mention how uninspiring the concept seemed after the brilliance that was the Episode I teaser. I was amazed that George would be satisfied with it; it just looked lazy. As disappointing and badly executed as the Episode III teaser was, at least they tried something original. And don't even get me started on the one-sheets for the last two. I mean, just what in the name of a Wookie's bush happened there? Whatever it was, you just know it wasn't Drew Struzan's fault. I remember when AiCN posted about the unveiling of the final Sith one-sheet, Knowles saying as fact that Lucasfilm had diddled with his original design, changing the composition, and that Drew was not pleased with the results. I know this is just one aspect of the overall marketing campaign, but considering that advertising the film should come before everything else, I can not think of a more important one to get right.

I never said he was being fired. Last year he was also named President of LucasArts. Sometime after Lucasfilm, LucasArts, and ILM move to their new facilities at the Presidio this September there is going to be some restructuring. Ward will be head of LucasArts and will also oversee Lucas Online... so he'll basically be in charge of multimedia. Lucasfilm will then get a new head of Marketing, which they'll still need for INDY IV, other non-Star Wars films, the SW television projects, and the 3-D re-releases.

Unsure if Ward will continue to oversee the DVDs... probably so.

I saw this ad in the paper on Friday and all I could think was:

"OK, they know this movie is a joke and now they are making fun of it themselves in a last-dicth effort to squeeze the remaining few millions out of the audience before it dies on Monday."

What a fucking terrible, nonsensical ad. "More dark" my ass.

True, you didn`t say Ward was being fired, but your choice of words and the ominous use of suspension points suggested it. ( At least to me it did. ) That, or you were planning to kill him. Either way, ominous.

Anyway, thanks for clearing up my misinterpretation.

Yeah, but my eight-year-old kid will probably LOVE it. Just the other day, he was acting out that scene with the mechanical training dummy from Master of Disguise, using a spent wrapping paper tube and the glove from his Toy Biz Spider-Man Web Blaster: "Who's your daddy? Who's your daddy?" I guess PG-13 or no, he is the audience they're really selling to.

If only the poster read "Who's Your Daddy, Bitch?"

Pretty sure who Jim Ward's daddy is here...
Just a coincidence that "Who's your Daddy" is one of the big lines from "Mr and Mrs Smith".
The Smith trailer included the scene, and that and father's day probably combined to make this gimmick ineviable.
Actually, this "joke" is hardly new. They've been selling "Who's Your Daddy?" Vader t-shirts (in both Adult and children sizes) for over a year now at places like Hot Topic (naturally). That's why this poster idea is even more silly.

Jesus, is that Elvis in a Stormtrooper outfit?

Yes, and it's even worse than you feared: http://www.elvistrooper.com/menu.htm

Just to make it clear Vader kills children that have British accents...
