New Trailer

From IGN's E3 Preview:

Quote:
Alan Wake is a horror writer whose fiancé was his muse. Whenever he was with her, sleeping by her side, he dreamed the dark dreams of the demented. Now, while I'd be the kind of guy to dump her and run for the hills, Alan not only was in love, but was profiting off of the dreams. His nightmares because the reality of best selling horror novels. But when his fiancé mysteriously disappeared, never to be heard from again, he stopped dreaming. In fact, he was so crushed by the loss that he stopped sleeping altogether. That can make a guy pretty tired and also pretty loopy.

Before too long, he retreated to the sleepy town of Pride Falls in the state of Washington to check into the sleep clinic outside of town. After curing the problem and getting a little bit of sleep, Alan finds and sleeps with a woman that looks eerily like his missing love. Yes, that's pretty messed up. What's even more messed up is that he immediately starts having the dreams again. The problem is, when he begins writing again, the dreams start seeping into real life.

The question for Alan is simple and complicated all at once. Are these visions and dreams really coming to life, or is he simply slipping into a dangerous dementia from which there is no return?
Eye-catching, that's for sure, although no word on how it'll play (although it seems like you can drive around the town).

If it doesn't involve guns, I am pretty sure I won't be playing this game.

It does.

Petri Järvilehto: Intense cinematic action is something that we love to do, and Alan Wake features tense combat gameplay as well, but all things considered the game has a lot more emphasis on adventure and exploration that what Max Payne did.
Some interesting things about the gameplay

Quote:
Sam Lake: Without revealing too much, I can say that night equals danger and action in the game, and that in turn contains a lot more than “those robed figures”. What’s more, Wake’s strange dreams play an important role in the game (much more so than Max Payne’s dreams did), and dreams, as we all know, are often seen during the night.
Quote:
Petri Järvilehto: The combat is not purely about gunplay. The use of light plays an important role in the combat, and different light sources provide new gameplay angles there.
Quote:
Petri Järvilehto: The changes in the weather affect everything on global scale. Visibility changes, audio cues will behave differently, driving dynamics change and so on. Pretty much what you'd expect to happen in the real world as well.

So it's "In The Mouth of Madness: The Game"?

Could be cool, though the Max Payne series is one of the most painfully overrated in recent memory.

I get a nice Silent Hill feeling from that description. looking forward to it.

Looks pretty cool.. I enjoyed Max Payne 1 and LOVED the sequel, so I'm excited to see how this turns out.

I loved the gameplay mechanics of Max Payne, but i FUCKING HATED those dream sequences. They were shitty and boring to play. It sounds like this alan wake thing is "max payne dream sequences all the time, with some gunplay thrown in there".

bad idea.

They fix the shit out of the dream sequences in Max Payne 2, making them much more story-oriented than the jumping-puzzle madness of the MP1 dream sequences.

Yeah man... Max Payne 2 rules.. Definetly an underrated game, since it's MUCH more polished than the first one.
Oh i played MP 2 as well, and hated the dream sequences there also. I just hated the idea of them taking me away from the game's action. It was just forced story upon me, when I sure as hell didn't want it. The physics engine works wonderfully in MP 2. Just some great moments throughout the whole game that play out differently depending on what gun you choose or how you choose to shoot the guys.

Very Silent Hill/In the Mouth Of Madness/The Shining vibe, which is never a bad thing.

Looks very good so far.

I was going to post this movie, but I was beaten to it.

I liked the original Max Payne, but the sequel felt like too much of rehash with better graphics and a few slight gameplay enhancements: Madden Payne 2003 as it were.

i stand by my original comment...where are the guns?

Stranglehold looks to be taking over the reigns of the 3rd person Woo-wannabe shooter. that game looks damn good.
The game isn't wannabe Woo at all.

Very beautiful.

So, the fact that a Christian Bale CG look-alike is aparently starring in this game does not deserve any comment?
No wonder he gets the ladies? What movie of Bales are you suggesting? The Machinist?
I have a lot of hope that this one will rock; I liked a lot of things about Max Payne, first and foremost being that it was actually just plain fun...

I really want this one to be a rock'n good psychological horror game.
Very beautiful.. Looks more Silent Hill than anything, and that's fine with me.. I take it this is PS3?

Xbox360 and PC(Windows Vista only).

I was listening to them describe the plot on the 1up show and it sounds like a real mind f#$%...kind of like indigo prophecy.
