Decapitations for the ages

Thread Starter
Pamela Voorhees from FRIDAY THE 13TH.

-The dual sword chopping in Gladiator, with the victim being that poor bastard in the pig helmet who for some reason is what I would imagine George Costanza would be like as a gladiator.

-The Middle Eastern 'volunteer' who the nazis send to his death at the end of Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade. Sliced by the unending ancient buzz saw of cobweb-blowing death.

-The Mouth Of Sauron's sudden departure in the ROTK:EE.

Conan's mother.

"Their heads weren't found severed. Their heads were not found at all."

Sleepy Hollow. Too many heads to count.
Starship Troopers fly-by decap.

Marv taking what's left of Kevin in Sin City

Ashitaka....with an ARROW....from about 40 yards away in Princess Mononoke

Aragorn finishing off Lurtz in Fellowship of the Ring.

In-your-face cannonball in The Patriot

Not really sure if it counts, since, technically, the head was alive, but....Norris' head ripping itself off and growing legs in The Thing

Re-animator:
Herbert West cuts his teachers head off with a shovel.
Silent Night Deadly Night when Billy catches the kid sledding down the hill. Great thing is the body stays on the sled.
Dustin Nguyen, with the hilariously gross decapitation by shotgun in "The Doom Generation". Nguyen manages to spit out a mouthful of vomit trying to speak.

V.C. Dupree in "Friday the 13th VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan". Puts up a fairly valiant fight before literally getting his head knocked off with a "Crystal Lake Haymaker".

Eddy Ko as "Shenji" in Ching Siu Tung's masterful and completely insane Kung-Fu film, "Duel to Death". Shenji's head gets lopped off, flies 30ft in the air, gets impaled on a branch, and still manages to get in the final words: "Mark my words...you will die!" before it explodes.

I win.

Ogami Itto, with a little help from his infant son, lops the head off the Yagyu swordsman, who stands momentarily headless in the sun in Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance.

Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn

A quick thinking Ash grabs a shovel and chops off his possesed girlfriend Linda's head.

Same movie later...

Ash chops off sweet Henrietta's head with a chainsaw.

Andy Garcia - Black Rain

Not the greatest...but I think it was my first. So, it's stuck in my memory.

And do the exploding heads in Scanners count?
Got a few:

1) Dennis hopper's head-removal-by-ceiling-light-whilst-on-an-out-of-control-train in Speed (now that's a mouthful).

2) Wesley snipes head removal by liquid nitrogen/boot to the face combo in Demolition Man (which is only further boosted in it's complete coolness by Sly Stallones cheesetatic "heads up" line).

3) James Earl Jones' decapitation in Conan, just as you think he's slimed his way out of death Conan comes to his senses and gives him a few great hacks to the neck (possibly my fave decapitation ever, simply for it's brutality and JEJ's shocked expression haha).
That guy getting his head shot off in Three Kings, if it counts.

Yoda taking out those clone troopers in ROTS.
Christian Slater in WINDTALKERS. Loses head because he didn't follow orders.

Bokeem Woodbine cutting off a head for a good luck charm in DEAD PRESIDENTS.

Lambert lopping off John Lone's head in THE HUNTED.

Not from a film, but Joe Pantoliano losing his head (and his hair) on "The Sopranos" was classic.
As I recall, there's the odd decapitation in the Highlander films.
In Alien when Ash's gets his head pounded by that metal thing to the point where it flips over onto his shoulder. Crazy shit the first time I saw it.

This is not the same Cave Dwellers that MST3K watched, is it?

How about the guy who gets his head chopped off in his sleep in Theatre of Blood? I'm partial to that movie though.
Do partials count? If so:
Seann William Scott by steel plate/train/wind in Final Destination.
and
Andy by shotgun to the face in Dawn of the Dead (2004) (IMO truly one for the ages! Or maybe it doesn't count as it's not really a decap).

A full one:
Some SWAT cop by monster jaws in the Relic.

Yes, it is. They're going through "Ator's home movies" and some dude gets his head whacked off by a blunt sword - no blood, no gore, just a *thunk* and the dude's head goes sideways. Classic.
Wolfen - cant remember exactly, but the guy who didn't believe that the human head can live for a few seconds after is it cut off from the body has the exact thing happen to him, and as his head rolls to a stop on the pavement, he continues to try to speak. That one haunted my nightmares for quite some time.
I always liked the FBI guy's decapitation-by-shotgun in The Frighteners. His ghost head remains there, looking shocked, while his real head gets blown to pieces. Great image.

Count Dooku: TWO lightsabers!

Jango Fett. Pretty graphic for a PG.

Kurgan: Highlander. Laughs, light starts shining through the slit, then plop.

Dennis Hopper: Speed. Kinda funny actually.
Bobby Peru's (Willem Dafoe) self-decapitation by shotgun in Lynch's Wild At Heart.

That's a good one.
They might not count because they included spine removal, but...

Sonny Landham - Predator

King Willy - Predator 2
Vic Morrow in THE TWILIGHT ZONE movie, talk about dedication to your craft.

I'm so so sorry.

Indeed.
What about the guy in saw who gets his nogging shot off
post #36 of 54
My god, every single one in Land of the Dead.

Also, Jango Fett and Count Dooku.

Scary Movie had some pretty nifty decaps also....
haute tension... since its the most recent in memory

and the partial/near decapitation-by-face-beating in irreversible
post #38 of 54
Oh, hell, the one that actually drove me nuts was in KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, when the short clown starts to menace a gangbanger, and he puts up his fists, wearing these ridiculously goofy boxing gloves. They all laugh at him, but then the clown punches the guy and sends his head, clean off, into the trashcan like a basketball. I could not believe I had just seen a clown punch a guy's head straight off.
The dude in Braveheart who gets knocked off his horse. Wallace put some force into that one.

I am so disappointed I didn't think of that (points at sig).

And click here for the 'Cave Dwellers' decap -> thunk

"Underworld" -- Only cool part of a really bad movie.....

Selene slices Victor's head in half..... He just stands there, whips out two more blades, cut to bloody sword in front of Selen's face, cut back to Victor, then you see a crack appear longitudinally across his face, then the top half of his head slides down and falls off. Clasic decap!
The Messenger: French Infantryman climbs up the siege ladder, gets his noggin clubbed off by this spinning propeller-like array at the top of the battlements. I have no idea what that thing's called, or if it's authentic, but the guy has this HILARIOUS look on his face and his head actually snaps back into place once, if you go frame-by-frame.

I thought so too, but then I remembered ...

Done earlier and bloodier.
Chief of Police by canine jaws, outside porn theater, in 'An American Werewolf in London'.
I was going to list the Dooku one from ROTS, but someone beat me to it.

So I'll go with the one from The Last Samurai where Tom Cruise has just beaten all those dudes in that courtyard type place. Then with one smooth, fast swipe, he takes that last guys head off. But it doesn't fall off right away--his sword goes right through his neck so cleanly that the head doesn't fall until the body hits the ground. Sweetness.
I'll go with Conan's mom, Bobby Peru, and the cannonball shot from Glory.
The head slice to open Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2: prop head, spurting blood, screaming passenger in car. Classic.
It's already been said but.....

Sean Connery IN Highlander - (really nice 'GI joe' action figure FX too!) Kurgans discription to macloed was cool too... "I took his head...etc"

what was 'in the box 'in se7en!
Can't forget the "Box your ears so hard your head Explodes" in Ricky-Oh (The story of Ricky). Love that flick.
