Dammit, Fox! Simpsons Season 6 art...

It fucking sucks, AND it doesn't fit with the previous seasons.

Okay, so call me nit-picky, but I HATE IT when studios go with completely different styles for Season sets. This art is not only ugly and cheap looking, but it will look totally out of place with the previous 5 sets. It's absolutely idiotic, especially considering the great art and designs we got with the previous sets.

This is obviously an attempt to slim down the packaging to meet retailer requests about shelf crowding, but this is moronic. They could have just slimmed down the boxes they were using and kept it in the same style. But nope! Now it's going to look absolutely funky when all of them are in a row together.

It's a nerdy, anal complaint, but dammit! I'm mad.

I've heard suggestions that the regular-styled box is inside the giant Homer Head. if so then cool, I can dig the little bonus packaging. Otherwise that would be a stupid ass move to just change it completely.

I have a hard time believing Fox would include MORE packaging when the current business plan is calling for less.

Well I dropped a line to my FOX Affiliate Rep to see if he could clear things up. Here's hoping it's just a little bonus.

Totally agree about the packaging. Let us know what the Fox rep says if he ever gets back to you.

I don't think it's unreasonable to care that much about the packaging. Consider the fact that you probably spend more time looking at the DVD on your shelf (not directly, or for hours on end, of course) than you do watching the DVD itself. Aesthetics is important.

Consistency, dammit!

Amen. It's a totally relevant complaint. Novelty packaging is catchy if done right (I.e. Northern Exposure, but at least the two seasons they released followed the same vest design), but for some reason I just can't see them totally switching up and abandoning the original design. Does anyone else know if this has been done before? It seems like every TV Set I have multiple seasons of have all stayed consistent.

Yeah, the region 4 box sets of 24 are totally inconsistent. So are the region everywheres of Futurama. The Six Feet Under spines get reinvented with every season. Sopranos used to do that, but they were rereleased (in region 4, at any rate) in more consistent packaging.

I also agree with the comment about the use of the word "Collector". I find it amazing these days when I see a DVD release that *doesn't* have any combination of the words "Special" "Collector" "Limited" and the like. The terms have become meaningless.

Are we sure that this isn't just the collectors edition packaging? Or do the others say that, too?

This reminds me of that TOTAL RECALL Mars shaped DVD which I thought was so cool the first 10 minutes I had it and then could not wait to get a regular case for it.

I'm willing to bet they have the normal boxart inside, Homer's head gets rather square-like at the top.

I kinda like this design...*ducks*
