Interesting news, it should be interesting as to which side wins or if both sides grab shares of the market (sense Blu-Ray is already confirmed for PS3). So if Sony does win this, then Microsoft is going to be hurting sense then they may have to pay rights to the technology for their next game system (yes I know this is the DVD section).

I think with Sony getting a huge installed base with the PS3, they have already won this war.

I am not too worried about the format war anymore though, because the manufacturers are just going to make universal players that will do both formats. Granted they will cost 750 dollars initially, but it took consumers like 3 years to officially buy into the DVD revolution.

Blu-Ray has already won.

always bet on betamax.

Make mine beta - ha ha ha.

Both formats offer a lot and I won't be one of the first to switch over. It took me a while to get into DVD's and CD"s from VHS and cassettes & vinyl (i still collect vinyl though).

Anyhow - good luck to whichever format wins but you won't see my money until about 5 years.

The porn industry will effectively make the decision, just like it did for VHS vs Betamax.

I'm glad the talks broke down, there's no good way for them to cooperate on anything, HD-DVD is too inferior and to compromise the capacity of Blu-Ray to come up with some inferior product doesn't make any sense for Sony and it's parteners, nor consumers.

Well considering that there's still DVD+ and DVD- R I've got a feeling both formats may be around for a long while.

microsoft has teamed up with toshiba to work with HD-DVD in the future. Looks like the gaming technology lines have forced the two companies to lay down a gauntlet as far as the rest of their business sectors.
