Donkey Kong Country Trilogy

I just recently started playing my SNES again and I must say that these three games were some of my fave games for the system. I still remember all the hoopla over the original's then groundbreaking graphics and how much of a media blitz it was. Then part 2 came out and it had better graphics and stuff and they also made the game a little longer since the first was a bit too easy. Part 3 came out in the SNES's twilight days and while it's not much different from it's predecessors in gameplay, it's still a fun game that's worth checking out. I'd say that I found these games more fun to play than DK64 which felt like a rushed rehash of Mario 64 and Banjo-kazooie.

I used to love Part 2 but I was surprised at how poorly it held up when I bought it for the GBA. It's not that the graphics were worse or anything like that. It was a straight port. It just didn't have the amount of stuff to do that I remember. In fact, I went online to see if the SNES version had more levels and it did not.

I love those three games. I was just talking about them with a friend the other night. This is my all time favorite series and I cannot wait to be able to play them again, hopefully on the Revolution!

Ah the glory days of Rare...before they went wild and started hacking their own past success and just exponentially increasing the number of things to find in a game hoping gamers would see it as depth rather than laziness.

I've got to admit I only played the first one, the sequels seemed too colorful to me, or something. But all in all that first Donkey Kong Country game was probably my second favorite game of that type, ever(after Mario 3). In fact, the more I think about it, why DIDN'T I ever play the sequels? They were as good, if not better? Hmn...

Yeah, the gameplay was improved upon in the sequels, and the innovative level design continued into the third. The one thing that took a few steps back though in the third game and beyond, was the music. The first two games had some mighty excellent tracks, and if I were to redo the soundtrack to DKC3, I'd include music from each of the first two games.

I thought the second game was a lot easier than the first. I could never get 101% on DKC1.

DKC is pretty easy for me to get 101%.... I did it once with a clock time of 1:21

I loved all 3 of the SNES Donkey Kong games. I wish they'd do something similar with those games that they did with the Zelda games and release them on a little compilation disc. And here's hoping they actually make a real DK game for the Revolution and not a music game.
