Battlefield 2: The Graphics that kills your PC

Hey guys,

it's a first post, and I guess it's the right place for a question like that.

Bought BF2 a week ago. It runs... on every possible low-settings there is... Got a P4 2.4Gh, 512 Mg of RAM and the important one... a GeForce FX 5200. It's outdated for the game, but at least it's viable. Planning on getting another stick of 512 Mg and another card... within my budget, which is low for the moment. I'm leaning for the ATI Radeon 9600XT (AGP) with 128 Mg. It's far from the best, but really cant' afford a 500$ card... Was debating with the Radeon 9600 256 Mg.

Question is; I'm I going the right direction making this hog going smoother ?

I've heard from people with 9600's (sorry don't know which one) that they got good framerates. If you can swing it, I'd recommend looking for a 9800 Pro with 256 megs of on board memory. The vid card memory will help alot with the textures. They run about $160 bucks right now and are still a good budget card.

Getting another 512 megs of system ram is going to help you also.

Caught your screen name. I'm reading the original three books right now again while waiting for the fourth to come out in a month or so.

1gig of total RAM would help tremendously. In fact, I have 1GB already and heard that another gig may be needed.

I would really like to pick BF2 up, but alas, I have a laptop with an outdated NVidia card, and laptop cards are nigh impossible to change out. Perhaps I'll get a new system soon that can run games better.

The requirements for this game sound ridiculous. What's the business plan here? Seems like the vast majority of people lcan't run this game and have fun.

I've heard that to run this decently you need at least a vid card with 256 ram and 1gig of memory.

I have a P4 1.8 (OC to 2.4), 1 GB of memory at not-particularly-high speed and a 128MB 9800 Pro.

BF2 runs pretty great for me at Medium settings all round (view distance 90%), 1024x768.

I'd agree with the others recommending another 512MB of RAM to go with the best vidcard you can afford. A 256MB video card isn't mandatory at the resolution I'm running, if you want to go higher it may be.

This thread may prove handy in picking out a card.

thanks for the thread about those cards, it give a good indication of what's what

This game should come packaged with it's own PC.

I actually have fun with the game... when the 4 minutes loading time is done... but yeah, 512 Mg is not a luxury at all. I will probably go with the Radeon 9600XT, as the 9800 pro is a 100$ more here (Mtl). And a 100$ is something to behold when your credit card is screaming and your girlfriend's b-day is coming soon...

I'm really wondering if the 256mg on a card make a difference on screen...

As for the screen name, true, a Song of Ice and Fire was the best fantasy ever written, until I found out something (slightly) better (trust me, I had trouble believing that). I'll probably post something for that in the book section..

Yeah, a gig of RAM is absolutely crucial for BF2. A 128 MB Radeon 9600 will work fine.

As much as I like the first Battlefield their is no bloody way I am spending so much money on my computer just to run this.

i haven't kept up with the latest video cards, but of those you guys are listing do they have some affordable ones with 2 DVI outputs for dual monitors (with VGA adapters of course).

Anybody play this on dual monitors? I imagine the game just pops up in one of them right?
