The Slow Claps of Cinema

I couldn't find an existing thread for this, so if there is one I apologize...

Which movies utilize that most rousing of standbys, the famous slow clap? A few off the top of my head:

HOOSIERS (clap....clap....Clap....CLap.....CLAp....CLAP..." Come on! Let me hear it!")

VARSITY BLUES

LIONHEART (with Van Damme, not Eric Stoltz)

I KNOW there are more....

Karate Kid II? (in its own way)
Not Another Teen Movie ("You'll know.")

Lucas. Leucoplacia is finally accepted by his nerd-hating peers.

good thread. my submission:

ROCKY IV

you can actually see hearts and minds being changed as they give the standing ovation.

The Patrick Dempsey "classic" Can't Buy Me Love has the most egregious one I can remember.

Dammit how could I forget to post that one? One of my favorite 80's flicks. Just thinking about it is getting me all....ahem...um....excuse me, it's getting dusty in here.

Yes, Lucas was...whatever.

Anyways one that hits some at home is....Rudy. Its more of slow chant then a clap, but you get the idea.

Cool Runnings, starting with the Germans, as the Jamaican bob sled team carry their sled to the finish line after crashing out. Classic slow cap moment.

Yes, anyone with a beating heart, you communist.

I don't know if I can include, though, because like someone who's never hired a prostitute, it doesn't have the clap.

What about the slow quack?

^ I don't know. We let Emilio Estevez into this thread and all hell breaks loose.

With RUDY and now THE MIGHTY DUCKS, I guess we should go ahead and include chanting and quacking.

Has anyone ever seen a slow clap happen in real life? Have the movies ruined it, and I was simply born too late? The only real life slow claps I've seen were in an ironic manner.

Well, there's the "Let's all applaud" slow clap, that I think only appears in movies. If you're going to start applauding something, you just do it at a normal pace and hope people join in.

Then there's the ironic "fake slow clap" in which you start to clap normally, but quickly die off as you pretend to realize that everyone else won't join in.

Then there's the "mocking" slow clap where you clap very slowly about three or four times to express disdain.

The latter two happen every so often for comedic effect, but I think the earnest slow clap to drum up massive applause is fantasy.

SNL did a skit I think called the "Sarcastic Clapping Family." Phil Hartman played the father. Hilarious.

That's the one for me. Many believe the demise of communism started with the fall of the Berlin Wall. In reality it was when Balboa showed those pinko bastards how wrong they truly were. It's a shame it came at the expense of his boxing career.

If we're including chants (vide THE MIGHTY DUCKS), then I respectfully submit the conclusion of REVENGE OF THE NERDS.

And as far as "mocking" slow claps go, for me, nothing beats the scene in VERSUS where Kenji Matsuda is slowly applauding the assassination of his boss when the boss slowly rises from the ground and takes over the applause: "Really entertaining, you kids."
