Killer 7

Anyone picking up this game tomorrow. It looks too unique to pass up and both Play and IGN have given it good reviews. I was surprised at the open mindedness of IGN regarding this game I thought for sure they were going to trash it.
I'll pick it up, but not tomorrow. I prefer to let prices come down a little first.
I haven't rented a game in years....I think I'll be breaking that streak with this one....not for lackof want...but lack of funds. The Halo Map Pack might actually wipe me out this week, which is saying something....
i was really psyched for this release but every article I've read about it says its crap
post #5 of 52
http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/562551.asp

It looks like it's a good adventure game. I'll be getting it.
let us know how the "on-rails" shooting is.
I was interested in it till they actually showed the gameplay.

It looks like total shit.
why? because its not a first person shooter? its more akin to a point and click adventure, only with awesome style, awesome plot, aimed at adults, and has some action elements, so why is that bad exactly?

and straight edge, every article youve read says its shit? did you check that its got a score of 80% at gamerankings? and that the reviews have been pretty positive?
Edge, probably the most acclaimd game publication, gave it 8/10.

They also seem to really love this game over at NTSC-UK. http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showthread.php?t=42532

It was never a game for everyone and I for one am glad of that. It's a totally unique game and a breath of fresh air in a world full of sequels and movie cash-ins.

Every review I've read is very positive with the caveat that it definitely isn't for everyone. This isn't a game to play around the kids as the violence and sex are pretty graphic from what I've read.
IGN liked it a lot, for whatever that's worth, and also readily admitted that they shouldn't because there's almost no gameplay, and it's going to have a healthy number of detractors. But it seems you just need to accept it as an adventure game and not an action game. Hey, OK.
I preordered this on the off chance it was 'out there' to the degree I like - the fact that there are haters is a good sign (to me)...I really like the 'outside the box' games....Siren is one of my favo games of all time and it reviewed horribly on Rotten Tomatoes.

....any word on the Ps2 or Gamecube differences (other than the amt of disk(s))?
PS2 version has a less stable framerate and longer load times.
Fancy that.

EB called and they got the game in. Now to slink away from work early and drug the kids so they go to bed at 5 o'clock.

Don't forget to drug yourself first too.

I have a feeling with this game drugs won't be necessary.

This is the most bizarre game I've ever played.
Ok, I spent 30 minutes with this game trying to figure out just how to move....so far, I suck. This game is a serious trip.

I did pick up the gamecube version....looks pretty cool - I do dig the look.

And it's also one of the most unusual, politically charged, and thought-provoking video games since Metal Gear Solid.
If Metal Gear Solid was "politically charged" and "thought-provoking" then I'm a Chinese jet pilot.
Rented this last night, I don't know what the fuck I'm doing. There's an annoying red guy who talks to me all the time. There's a guy in a mask who flips me off, with both hands. There's a chick without shoes on, I don't know why. There's a little fast guy with two guns that says "Fuck you!" every time he kills someone. There's this white ghost thing that hangs from the ceiling every now and then, don't know what that's about. I can't figure out when I'm supposed to use the main guy (cleaner); should I revive dead people or just start back at the save? Fuck if I know.

I'm at a part with some bloody writing on a wall, red guy says use the chick to find the real blood, haven't figured it out yet.

Weird game, not sure what I think yet, but I can't wait to get off work play more.

***edit***

I hate that every time I turn the game off it resests the inverted aim to normal. People who play with normal aim are idiots and tend to smell bad, all of them.
Reading the game description, it sounds like someone's been reading Eric Nylund's A Game of Universe.
Buying this if only because I feel games that try to stray off the beaten path must be supported.
Ok, played this for two hours - I restarted from last night since I had no clue what I was doing....do not play this game after being at work for 12 hours.

I am still at that 'what the...' stage of learning the game, and I highly suggest reading over all of the notes Iwazu (sp?) gives you in Harman's room first....it does help.

I do like the cell shaded look, if nothing else since it is different. The track movement is kinda wierd, but you do get used to it and there are sure a lot of junctions to check out.
You can find impressions, tips and videos of the game here. Might be helpful for those who are struggling with it.

Agreed. Think I'll pick this up this afternoon. Plus, it'll give my Cube a workout. It's been lonely since RE4...
Made it to the second part of target 3, I kind of know what I'm doing now (still not quite sure how to use some of the skills, like Dan's double & triple tap). Fun game, can't see playing more than once though, there is really only one way to do everything.

Definitely deserves the M-rating, there are some cut scenes that are brutal as hell.

SOLD.

...as soon as it hits the $20 bin, of course.

Damn. Sounds like it might be worth full price. I wonder where I put my Cube?

As much as I'm enjoying it, I still can't recommend paying full price. It's worth $20, and is a great rental, but it's just about as straight forward as a game can possibly get (gameplay, at least). There is no exploration, no alternate way of doing anything, and no branching story/paths at all. Playing a second time would be exactly like playing the first time (you could use different characters for regular combat, but they all essentially do the same thing).

You quite literally go from point A to B to C etc.
*POP* Burst my bubble. I never rent games, and I was hoping for something fun to play now, as opposed to waiting a year for the price to drop.
It's like a return to the Adventure genre. Go here, solve intricate and clever puzzle, shoot some bastards and repeat. Almost like a big fat 3d cel-shaded text adventure.

I dig it, sir. Perhaps the style of the game IS the substance.
Finished this up last night, pretty gosh darn cool ending (even though you really don't actually do anything for almost the last hour), completely fucking crazy/weird/demented/bloody, much like the rest of the game.

Still not sure how I feel about the game though, very glad I played it, but also very glad I didn't buy it.

***spoilers***
The second trip through the motel, showing the deaths of the K7, was fucking badass, loved it.
this will be $20 soon just like the other Capcom misfires PN03 and Viewtiful Joe 2. Then it shall be mine!

How long did it take you?
I think right around ten hours, maybe a little more. At least two or three of that was lenghty cut scenes and just walking around as the story plays out, especially toward the end.

Sounds like Metal Gear Solid syndrome(well, the first 2 anyway. I haven't played 3). I guess they kick the shit out K7 in the replay department though, even though they're a little shorter.
I'll probably pick this up too when it goes down in price.
This sounds a bit like Fear Effect the game (the hardest game ever!?) and MPD Psycho the manga. Sounds cool.
Picked this up over the weekend, spent a little time with it Sunday afternoon.

BIZARRE.

But I like it.

I think...

I was gonna question this, but why bother? It's just going be one of those things where nobody's going to change anybody's mind and they'll just think each other is an idiot.

Anyway, back to Killer7, I really wanted to get into the story and everthing, but actually playing the game itself became such a fucking chore I just gave up. I don't even have to pay for it either (work at Blockbuster and rented it), but the gameplay drove me that fucking nuts. It was so bland and shitty that it became frustrating. I'm almost considering braving it again just to play through these alledgedly awesome parts, but the game itself is so fucking maddening I doubt I can do it, especially for 10 hours.

I can certainly see why people enjoy the MGS games, they're fun, campy, usually gorgeous, and very over-the-top. But to call them "politically charged" or "thought provoking" is lending them gravitas that they simply don't possess.
Agreed. MGS was the greatest gaming experience I've ever had, but I'd hardly call it thought provoking.

Still not sure about this Killer 7 business, gonna rent it if I can find it.
I'd argue that ANY MGS game is more "thought provoking" than 90% of the games out currently, but that's not the subject.

I'm up to the final level of Killer 7 and you know, I can't really say if I like it but it's certainly been an interesting experience.
You goddamn syphilitic motherfuckers. Every time I come on this board I buy something. I would have been blissfully unaware of Killer 7's bizarre gameplay appeal if it wasn't for you. Now I'm looking for my keys and my Cube. I hope you bastards all die of something painful.

Really? 'Cause I found that the information on the results of the Cold War and genetics, as well as what our genes have to say about who we are to be rather good food for thought.

Granted both these aspects were exaggerated to serve the story, but at the same time the facts they refer to that they base the story on jive with everything I've learned about the two subjects. It was interesting to hear about the way they dispose of nuclear waste and how shitty a job they're doing as well as the cyclical nature of nuclear deterrence and stuff like that.

But whatever. Maybe it's 'cause I only had a passing understanding of both at the time I played the first game that they had such an impact. The second one? Fuck that. That had pretty much jack shit to say outside of a distorted version of the first game's messages. Haven't played the third, but want to badly.

Anyway, back to Killer7...I'm teetering on playing it again, but I'd rather watch somebody play it than play it myself 'cause I HATED the gameplay. Anybody wanna fly out ot my house and play it for free while I watch?
$29.99 pretty much everywhere.
Hmmm...this game would be more tempting now if I didn't have 5 games to beat right now...oh and the Hulk being out. Shame such an apparently cool story's gotten lost in the shuffle.
