E.T. DVD question

I held back from buying E.T. in 2002 because I just assumed that it wouldn't come with the original version, and I didn't dig the CGI E.T. in the theater. Recently though, I heard that the DVD did come with the original version as well as the Special Edition, but only on one of the sets. Amazon and the DVD sites conflict with each other, and I've become a bit confused, so...

People that actually own it:
Does the 2-Disc set come with the original version of E.T., or can I only get the original with the huge multi-disc gift set?

No, it definitely comes on the second disc of the standard 2-disc set. I have it.

I just bought this last week on Amazon (the 2 disc, WS edition) through their "used and new" section, which outsources the service to different vendors. I couldn't get it from Amazon officially because I guess it's out of print. If you're going to buy this edition, which I bought for fear of no more original ('82) versions being released, you might want to do it soon.

The original version is in widescreen on both versions (FF/WS) if you don't care about the SE.

There's a single-disc edition coming out soon that includes an isolated John Williams score on it. From DavisDVD.com:

Universal has just sent us some interesting news regarding the upcoming single-disc re-release of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. Even though this edition shaves off some of the better extras from the two-disc set, including the full-length documentary, it will add an isolated track featuring John Williams' famous score. This track is exclusive to this release. The rest of the disc features the 2002 cut of the film in 1.85 anamorphic widescreen, Dolby Digital 5.1 EX and DTS ES Surround tracks, "The Reunion: E.T.'s Family and Friends" and "Behind-the-Scenes with Composer John Williams" featurettes, E.T.'s Interactive Space Tour, the trailer, production photos and concept drawings. Look for this E.T. on August 23rd with a retail $19.98.
So, it looks like if you want the gun-wielding government goons, you'll need to go with the original release. Also, I was just at Universal Orlando a few weeks back, and the E.T. Ride there (which I rode with my son and niece) still contains government agents with guns. I was furious and e-mailed Mr. Speilberg immediately after I returned home about using CGI to wipe the guns from my brain.
