Abandonware

A friend showed me this site earlier in the week.

*edited to actually include the site* http://www.the-underdogs.org/

I'm in nostalgia heaven.

Want to play Bart Simpson vs. the Space Aliens?

This site has all kinds of old abandonware games.

So far I've downloaded the Magic: The Gathering game (it also comes with the 1st 2 expansions... the 3rd is actually still being sold, so the site doesn't have it) and Arthur: The Quest for Excalibur (which was a game I played probably in the early 90s on an Apple E... unfortunately the game was for Apple GS, so it would randomly crash, and I never made it very far, but I loved it. It is still a fun game).

I hope at least one person gets some use out of this site.

Also, if you don't notice the warnings, DO NOT download more than 1 thing at a time (this included instruction manuals, patches, etc) because they cancel your download and ban your ip address for days/weeks. It is there way of insuring bandwidth for everyone without a couple of people downloading hundreds of games.

Anyway, enjoy!

I like Abandonia better, because it doesn't take three hours to look something up.

Sorry, I meant the underdogs site that Randolph Carter posted.

I thought I copy/pasted it in to my message, my apologies.

I'll have to check out Abandonia as well, never heard of it before today.

Not everything on The Underdogs is abandonware; there are still lots of titles there that are available for purchase.

Not according to their FAQ (not saying you are wrong, I just found the site this week, and I've only looked for a few games). There FAQ says that they REVIEW non-abandonware games, but provide no downloadable versions of the games. Instead they link either to the companies website or another website where the game can be purchased.

So, if they are following the guidelines they have stated for themselves, I believe they are an abandonware site. But perhaps they do not follow their guidelines.

Abandonia does seem more user friendly in many respects, however it seems to have a lot less games (or at least a lot less of the games I was interested in). It didn't have (or I couldn't find) the two games I mentioned in my first post (Magic and Arthur) on Abandonia for example, but The Underdogs had both.
