GTA: Herbie

Asia wont sell. Too homogenous to the west and the accents arent gonna go over.
The future wont sell. Too nerdy for the crossover market.
A woman wont sell. Once again its too much for the arguably less nerdy/ more ignorrant attitude of the casual 10-25 year old gamer. They never pick the chick. Tomb Raider really only got as far as it did because it was one of the first real 3D exploration games to come out.
And The getaways pretty much blew the spot on London.

The islands got potential but I really think they should get liberty city right in a period setting. The 70s are it man. I swear. Think about it.
Street level firearms have not really advanced that far in the last thirty years so I think the weapons will keep people happy.
Then you got the cars. These will be great. Think about musclecars from that era or the giant boat like caddies. Corvettes and Mercedes,Ferraris and massive suburbans. All types of vehicles can be included and they are all going to have that 70s flavor. You still got motorcycles, helicopters and airplanes.
The soundtrack would be huge and there are some great archetypes in 70s crime films.
AGREE OR BE WRONG!!!!!!!!

Nah thats bull, anything with the name GTA is gonna sell like hotcakes. Asia would be massive, especially in Asia! Hell even more so with Asian-americans and Asian-Australians, etc. Haha, you say the accents wouldnt go down well? as opposed to the faux 'gangbangin' niggaz' thing they had going in the last game? or the Mexican accents? yeah right.

Making bloody GTA: Yet Another American City would be boring and a waste of an oppurtunity for something fresh. Playing as a Yakuza in colourful Neon-building filled streets, Stealing performance cars similiar to Skyline's and Lancer Evo 4's, that would take off like you wouldn't believe. Especially since Rockstar are mostly influenced by movies in their GTA games, you think them wanting to take on movies like Young and Dangerous, Infernal Affairs, Sonatine, A Better Tomorrow, Kill Bill, Fallen Angels, you think that would be too much of a stretch? there is endless inspiration in these movies that would make a great game and that people would go absolutely ape for.

You know, the more people talk about it, I think the Asian GTA would rock. But the next GTA is going to be for next-gen systems, so we'll just have to wait and see what tricks Rockstar pulls out of their sleeves. I don't think anyone saw the transition between GTA 2 and GTA 3 coming. I can only hope they don't rest on their laurels and just make a prettier expansion pack to GTA 3 (which is really all Vice City and San Andreas were, fun as they were).

I'd like them to remake GTA 3 with the advancements of San Andreas (motorcycles, flying vehicles, huge maps) for the modern systems while coming up with something completely new for the next-gen systems. I mean, they did say that the reason Vice City wasn't GTA 4 is that it was too similar to GTA 3. That gives me some hope. Lets hope they stick to it.

Actually I'd like them to go back to one city with maybe some areas to the outside of it, but make it a huge city like New York (which Liberty City is based off of). But split the city into different areas i.e. Bronx, Queens, Staten Island where there are different groups of people. And with being in the city make it feel like a real city like people having a certain schedule, most of the buildings can be entered, and have competition in the form of other guys jacking cars or making hits that you have to deal with. This could be done anywhere really (London, Hong Kong, hell even St. Petersburg would be interesting if done right)

Random thoughts in no particualr order...
-I echo the Liberty City love, but only if it's the same layout as in 3. Sure make it bigger if you want, but keep the original streets the same. If it takes place in the 70's, then let the city be different(buildings not there yet, maybe the dam hasn't been built). Just by making all the buildings enterable(is that a word?) the game will already be MUCH bigger than 3.
-I don't think GTA 4 needs any online content at all. If they want to do the online thing, do a spinoff or something. An online GTA would just become an all out murderfest, no matter how much story it had . Well that's how I see it anyway.
-I too, would like much better graphics for the next GTA, but at the same time I'd much rather have more refinements. The poor textures and character models are two of the things holding back the current GTAs. At the same time though, I want more pedestrians(well, where there should be pedestrians), more traffic(especially on the highways, have a rush hour even). Also instead of making a billion new things to do, refine what's there first. THEN add more things to do. Also, the game should keep track of the last 10 or so vehicles you used, would be very helpful.
-I think with the customization we saw with San Andreas, we can expect to be able to choose from 3 or 4 characters for the new game. White guy, black guy, woman, and a mute(GTA 3 guy maybe?). I just threw in the mute for people who get sick of the random quips(I do from time to time). If their lines are different(or even different missions), it will give a good reason to play through again. Or maybe you could select a certain character for certain missions and have them all to choose from at any time. Like an A-Team of sorts. If you want, you can bring them all and do missions together. Either computer controlled guys following you around(as long as they're smarter than the ones in SA), or have the option of 3 friends helping you out in certain missions(with the difficulty ramped up to make it work).
-In some ways GTA is already cartoony as hell, but would it really hurt that much to have a Halo-like "flip car" option? Or something else? And does every flipped car HAVE to explode? This isn't "TJ Hooker" people.
-I guess a walkman would be okay, but I really enjoy running around just listening to the world. Still, I suppose the option should be there for people who want it. It should have drawbacks though, like maybe not being able to hear gunshots or something.
Anyways, there are my jumbled thoughts on the matter. The game doesn't need to be as big as San Andreas, but I'm sure Rockstar will go bigger, otherwise it would seem like a step backward to some.

PS- I too would love a Grand Theft Horse(San Andreas in the old west days?), or Grand Theft Auto: Apocalypse(choose your flavor, but zombies are my choice).

Since it sounds like some people here would be interested in it, IGN just put up an article here on a game by Neversoft called Gun, which is pretty close to a "Grand Theft Horse" game.

I agree changing something as major as the setting to future or Old West would throw people off, but a LOT of people were pretty mad about San Andreas starring a black man and it didn't exactly flop.

In any case, I'd like to think Rockstar is at least as concerned with taking the series in relatively new directions as they are with appeasing the stupid masses. I mean, they could probably just have released three virtually identical games and gotten away with it, and still have sold tremendous numbers of copies, but they went to the trouble to develop ridiculously ambitious sequels and actually succeeded beyond almost all expectations.
