Favorite/Least Favorite Theme Park Rides

I was inspired by a thread regarding the improved Space Mountain ride at Disneyland. Since a lot of these rides are taken from forms of entertainment I thought it would make for a good topic.

My favorite is Disneyland's Indiana Jones ride. That is one attraction that was well worth the hours in line. A total blast with some real "shock" moments on your first time through. It also led to production of one of the few Indy action figures that you can get for less than an Andrew Jackson.

I'm also partial to Drop Zone at Paramount's Great America. I'm not sure if it is supposed to have a connection to the film DROP ZONE, but that movie was done by Paramount so I don't think it's a stretch to say the title is more than a coincidence. It's a pretty basic ride, it slowly raises you 22 stories into the air and then drops you that same distance in 4 seconds. The after effects of this ride is a truly unique feeling.

My least favorite isn't really a ride but it's the Backdraft exhibit at Universal Studios. I don't know if it's still there but that thing is like being in an oven for 15 minutes. If the point is to give you a better respect for firefighters then they succeeded on that level.

One of my favorites is either called Dueling Dragons or Fire and Ice (I forget which) but it's at Universal Islands of Adventure in Orlando. Basically, two overhead suspended trains start out side by side - as they leave the launch area they go in different directions but at various points through the ride the two tracks end up going head on for each other like an insane game of chicken then go seperate directions the second after you piss yourself. The only other one that jumps out at me is the Mr. Freeze at Six Flags Over Texas. I haven't ridden it in like 9 years, but I remember seeing a sign that told you to take your earrings out - I asked the seatbar checker guy why that was and he said because the G-Forces would force the stems of your earrings into your jugular. I'm not sure how true it was but I was only 16 and it stuck with me. I think that little nugget is what made me love the ride (as I can't remember a damn thing about the actual ride itself).

Tower of Terror at MGM is pretty cool. Sounds sort of like the drop zone ride you're talking about, but it shoots you up and down a few times. Supposedly the number of times and the timing and height of each drop is randomized, so it's different every time. It's also set up like an old Twilight Zone episode, which is pretty neat.

Spider-man at Islands of Adventure is hands down the greatest theme park ride I've ever been on. It's jaw-droppingly good.

And I would say T2 3D is the best live show anywhere.

Haven't been to too many amusement parks thew past few summers, but I will be casting my vote for Superman: The Ride of Steel at Six Flags, here in Landover, MD. The fastest coaster I have ever been on. The second hill is probably larger than most coasters "big drop". And the vortexs are a blast.

If you can get in the front car, it does give a great sensation of how it must feel to fly. Simply amazing.

Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh has some excellent classic wooden coasters, The Thunderbolt, and the Jackrabbit are great fun. Not to mention the Phantoms Revenge this thing goes straight down a ravine!

The best park for Coasters has to be Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio. Top Thrill Dragster is Crazy!

& here in Orlando it's either the Mummy Ride at Universal Studios or the Hulk at Islands of Adventure.

Islands of Adventure is the park I'd like to visit the most. So far I haven't been to any of the big ones outside of California.

That Superman ride sounds pretty sweet. I was on the Batman ride at Six Flags in So Cal and that was top notch. I hear they now have one called Riddler's Revenge which is supposed to be even better, but I've not yet had the chance to experience that one.

Damn straight. Cedar Point is the best. The latest ride is MaxAir and is absolutely crazy looking. I can't wait to get there sometime this summer.

Unfortunately we also have Paramount's King's Island. Most of the rides have been named to a movie of some kind from Paramount, the lastest being the hour and a half commercial for the Mini Cooper called the Italian Job. They had this James Bond adventure ride where you sat in a theater with a large screen while the action took place in front of you, on screen, in first person mode. Occassionally the seats vibrated or something. Pretty pathetic.

We had that exact same James Bond ride at the Paramount park out here. It was God awful, made worse by the fact that it replaced a Days of Thunder ride that was actually kind of cool.

Well my least fave would have to be the 'leathal weapon' which is a ride in australias warners bros movie world. having a family member working there i was able to snag pre-opening tickets to try it out before the public. any way, myself and a friend strapped ourselfs in ( its a roller coaster that hangs under the rail ) as the safty guy walked past checking everyone was locked on, my friends safty bar popped up, the only reason it didnt fly all the way up was because a centre seat belt was holding down slightly, after much tugging and panicing on his part, he undid the seat belt, it cranked all the way up, he pulled it back down, and it locked. phew. half way through the ride, i felt something hitting my legs, and it was the safly belt, loose, and dangling around. i have never held on so tight in my life, and the corkscrews ( yes there were more then one ) were almost heart stopping, im sure i wouldnt have slid out, but i was shitting myself that i was.
anyway, that gets my vote for least fave ride.
