Spyware Remover

Thread Starter
What is the best one. I need some now.

And just to be clear, will the spyware remove automaticly be able to go into any spyware on my registry, or is that something I would have to do after running a anti-spyware program.

And if so, what file in the registry should the spyware be under.

Here's some I advise:

Ad-aware typically doesn't get spyware, per se, but I always use this as a first pass.

Spybot can often find things that *ain't* wrong, but I would still use this. Be careful, though.

Hijack this is a program I really like. While others like this say "FChigehgwhg.exe is loading this", Hijack This can often show me just what is being loaded with IE. DO NOT REMOVE EVERYTHING - it just tells you what you have, not whats bad or good. Its very helpful, though.

And as always, I recommend loading msconfig when in safe mode, clicking the "startup" tab. This'll show whats being loaded when you start windows. It'll also give you a good bead on spyware, as it'll show you *where* something is being loaded from.

As for your registry question... most spyware isn't placed in one section, hense why most of the progs I've listed do that for you.

I can't add anything to Scumbag's post - I just wanted to point out that we could probably do with a forum for General Computer Related Stuff.

If you use HijackThis, there's an extremely (although they admit it's not perfect) useful database at:

Just run a scan with a logfile in HJT, then paste the contents of said logfile into the URL above.

I hate to say it, but Microsoft's Antispyware from their website seems to be pretty good too, at least while it's free. Actually, the best thing is to use all of the aforementioned programs.

Webroot SpySweeper is in my experience the best anti spyware program.

Panda Anti-Virus is a good anti-virus program that also blocks spy-ware... kind of a two in one deal. Not 100% but it will help. REALLY helpful for my wife's PC. She downloads the 'cute' stuff on the internet that has tons of spyware...

I've been running Nod32 for several months. It's not really a spyware program but it's a awesome anti-virus program and it's really light weight. You can download a trial and try it out.

Edit: Seems the new version has spyware monitoring too.
