Finally got my hands on this thing. $23 after trading in Fable, The Halo 2 Map Pack, Sonic Heroes, Devil May Cry 3, and Dragonball Z Budokai 3(yep...I'm done with it already.).
First off, CRAPPIEST MANUAL EVER. 6 pages is a pamphlet, not an instruction booklet.
The reviews were more or less right. I haven't gone on Live with this yet, but so far, checking traffic makes driving on the right side of the road too easy. Sure, you get no boost that way, but, still, too easy.
They also didn't get rid of the annoying as fuck sun glare. The stages thus far haven't been packed with traffic on the opposite direction yet, but it's early...and it's gonna become a problem again, I know it.
The soundtrack--DEFINITE improvement. Matter of fact, I might even call it ::gasp!:: listenable. Mostly hard rock and electronica, with a few, expected, weak spots (Thrice, Finch, etc) Still, it mostly fits. For once, I'm actually wishing there was a way to mix my custom soundtrack with the EA stuff.
The once unskippable first-time-playing demos are now skippable. And the new female announcer isn't a total douche like before.
Crash Junctions--Nice. You can pick your cars on any junction now, restarting it isn't such a pain in the ass, and the design is a thing of beauty. There's canyons to be jumped, multiple levels with their own set of cars, and checking traffic works MUCH better here than in races. And being able to control the camera is a godsend, though it's not as practically done as I was hoping (the right thumbstick is still sadly not utilized)
Races--Same as always. the multiple routes make things extremely interesting, though. The takedown camera is a lot more cinematic this time around, which makes for some extremely cool moments while taking down opponents (one guy I took down went flying over me, the camera followed my car from the front, looking backward as the guy's car hit a lamppost in the air)
For now, that is all.
