Myst V: End of Ages - Best adventure game since Grim Fandango?

I'm fucking serious when I say this. I just saw the videos on Myst Obsession, and believe me, this looks unbelievable. The AWESOME character animations (particularly Escher), the huge worlds...my god, September can't come here soon enough.

Shit I need to play through all the other Myst games. I've only finished the first one.

Completely off topic, but I just noticed that the Grim Fandango soundtrack is downloadable at, http://grimfandango.net/?page=soundtrack. Enjoy.

You'll have four more to go through. Uru: Complete Chronicles is a must to understand the storyline behind Myst V.

Myst I is still the game to beat, because of the free-exploration option. I can't believe none of the sequels let you just wander around the worlds when you're done. Anyone have thoughts on RealMyst, the 100% 3D version of Myst I? Sometimes I just set myself up by the ship and watch the sun go down.

I love RealMyst, especially with the expansion of the story to include a better ending. Only problem I have is getting it to run smoothly on a faster computer.

Agreed- it is quite a processor hog. Funny-- I re-watched the old "Making of Myst" mini-documentary a little while back, and one thing that struck me was how proud the programmers were about how they'd engineered the game to run smoothly on the most minimal systems, and how creatively they'd cut corners to fit the whole thing on one CD.

That kind of programming seems to be fading away. Just throw more RAM and disc space at it, eh?

Spore seems to be a return to that style, with the emphasis being compression and all.

From the looks of it, Myst V will have the option of choosing between free-form and point-and-click.

I cannot believe the non-press this is getting. You would think that adventure games were completely written off as a viable genre of gaming.

Wait....

This thread made me go out and pick up the Myst tenth anniversary pack. I was to young and stupid to solve any of the puzzles when Myst and Riven first came out, and I never bothered with the third one. I've always respected the design in these games, though.

I'm going through Myst right now, am making decent progress, and am fucking addicted. I can see why this sold so well. It's funny how one of the oldest and best truly mature games is rated "E."
