Batman Motion Picture Anthology - 10.18

Thread Starter
The digitalbits.com (click right here, dammit!) is reporting all 4 films (even the horrifically awful last one) are getting the scumdidilyumptious treatment come Oct. 18th. I'd imagine we're gonna see a BATMAN BEGINS DVD announcement any day now after this one.

And I quoteth:
Quote:
The Batman: Special Edition will feature audio commentary by director Tim Burton, 4 documentaries (some multi-part) including On the Set with Bob Kane, Legends of the Dark Knight: The History of Batman, Shadows of the Bat: The Cinematic Saga of the Dark Knight (featuring Part 1 - The Road to Gotham City, Part 2 - The Gathering Storm and Part 3 - The Legend Reborn) and Beyond Batman (featuring Visualizing Gotham: The Production Design of Batman, Building the Batmobile, Those Wonderful Toys: The Props and Gadgets of Batman, Designing the Batsuit, From Jack to the Joker and Nocturnal Overtures: The Music of Batman), 3 Prince music videos (for Batdance, Partyman and Scandalous), 2 profile galleries (The Heroes and The Villains), the Batman: The Complete Robin Storyboard Sequence featurette, and the film's theatrical trailer.

The Batman Returns: Special Edition will feature audio commentary by director Tim Burton, 3 documentaries (some multi-part) including The Bat, the Cat and the Penguin, Shadows of the Bat: The Cinematic Saga of the Dark Knight (featuring Part 4 - The Dark Side of the Knight) and Beyond Batman (featuring Gotham City Revisited: The Production Design of Batman Returns, Sleek, Sexy and Sinister: The Costumes of Batman Returns, Making up the Penguin, Assembling the Arctic Army, Bats and Mattes and Dark Nights: The Visual Effects of Batman), Siouxsie and the Banshees' Face to Face music video, 2 more profile galleries (The Heroes and The Villains), and the film's theatrical trailer.

The Batman Forever: Special Edition will feature audio commentary by director Joel Schumacher, deleted scenes, 3 documentaries (some multi-part) including Riddle Me This: Why is Batman Forever?, Shadows of the Bat: The Cinematic Saga of the Dark Knight (featuring Part 5 - Reinventing a Hero) and Beyond Batman (featuring Out of the Shadows: The Production Design of Batman Forever, The Many Faces of Gotham City, Knight Moves: The Stunts of Batman Forever, Imaging Forever: The Visual Effects of Batman Forever and Scoring Forever: The Music of Batman Forever), Seal's Kiss from a Rose music video, 2 more profile galleries (The Heroes and The Villains), and the film's theatrical trailer.

Finally, the Batman & Robin: Special Edition will feature audio commentary by director Joel Schumacher, a deleted scene (Alfred's Lost Love), 2 documentaries (both multi-part) including Shadows of the Bat: The Cinematic Saga of the Dark Knight (featuring Part 6 - Batman Unbound) and Beyond Batman (featuring Bigger, Bolder, Brighter: The Production Design of Batman & Robin, Maximum Overdrive: The Vehicles of Batman & Robin, Dressed to Thrill: The Costumes of Batman & Robin, Frozen Freaks and Femme Fatales: The Makeup of Batman & Robin and Freeze Frame: The Visual Effects of Batman & Robin), 4 music videos (for the Smashing Pumpkins' The End is the Beginning is the End, Jewel's Foolish Games, R. Kelly's Gotham City and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's Look into My Eyes), 2 more profile galleries (The Heroes and The Villains), and the film's theatrical trailer.
Mr. Hunt and Co. say that each will be available in a 2 disc Special Edition as well. Cover Art is forthcoming.

I'm just gonna buy the box. I want the Pumpkins video on Batman and Robin, and I'd like to hear Schumacher try to defend himself. Plus, Warner's really sweetening the deal with DTS. It's good to see they've finally come to their senses. What was the last DTS release they had, Twister? It's been ages.

The first Burton film is kind of tempting. This is a movie that has needed a Special Edition for years. Even with the existence of the superior Batman Begins, I still have a soft spot for the pure spectacle and quotability of the '89 flick, even if it's not really a great film by any stretch.

With the improved quality and behind-the scenes focus that Special Editions like this tend to offer, I MIGHT consider picking it up since it seems to be available seperately. But there's no way I'm purchasing a box-set. I don't care for the other three films and it's silly to own things you don't like. It's just that simple.

Glad to hear it, as I only want the first two films.

Eh. I'll bite the bullet, and buy the entire set. I still think Returns is the strongest of the four, Forever is at least entertaining, and I am silently hoping that there's an Easter Egg on Batman and Robin of Bob Kane's corpse rising from the grave and beating the shit out of Akiva Goldsman with a lead pipe for a half an hour.

Everything Crow said upto the corpse assault......

.....no wait............everything.

I'll be picking up the first two.

On a related note, I got Prince's Batman Soundtrack in the mail a few days ago, and it's pretty damn good. While I've already heard around half of the album, there are a few gems worth seeking out, preferably 'The Future' and 'Electric Chair', vintage make-you-wanna-get-down-and-boogie Prince. I’ll take this album over his most recent stuff any day.

Since I only own the first three....i might just get the box set, since to be fully honest....I've never fully seen Batman and Robin.... I know that must be against the geek code, but I've never seen it..I guess all the back lash kept me away..
I've never seen BATMAN & ROBIN in its entirety, either, and it's the only next-gen Bat film that I haven't seen in theaters.

I'm not planning to change that any time soon.

Saying that never having seen Batman and Robin might be against the geek code is like saying never having masturbated a dolphin at Sea World with a bloody crucifix while wearing a clown suit means you might be going to hell.

There's a pre-existing thread from mid-January in the other DVD forum:
http://chud.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1515213#

Strangely, Darth_Chocola posted the Digital Bits info in that thread exactly 3 hours after you started your thread.
I was really tired so I didn't really pay attention to the DVD section

But my question from the other thread still stands, what happened to Burtons guest on the commentary?
Where's the music video for "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" by U2
post #13 of 33
It's on their Best of 1990-2000 Videos DVD. Guess you'll have to pick THAT up if you want it.

Fabulous video. One of my alltime favs.

Bucking the trend here and going for the box set. I think "Batman and Robin" hopefully could have one of the most fascinating commentaries ever. How often does such a maligned and infamous turd get a 2 disc SE treatment 8 years down the road with retrospective commentary? I mean, this could be golden. I'd like to see Schumacher detail everything that went wrong, both his own mistakes and the interference of the studio, Kenner, McDonald's etc. He's been more and more honest about the film with each subsequent year, and I can actually enjoy the finished film in my "I love Van Damme's Stree Fighter" sort of way.

The first two I love, "Forever" is not good but is entertaining, and I've been waiting for SEs forever. So this is good news for me.

Here's bucking a trend, especially a CHUD trend, but I hated Returns. HATED. Saw a midnight screening, the first midnight screening I ever attended, and... Oh well. He took off his mask!!! He took off his mask!!!
I'll give it to Tim Burton, he made the film he wanted, it seems like, but I couldn't stand it. Recently tried to rewatch it, but couldn't make it through. Still better than the last two, but, not my cup of tea.

Warner has officially announce two editions of Batman Begins which stars Christian Bale, Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman and Liam Neeson. Both the single-disc, and double-disc deluxe DVD's will be available to own from the 18th October this year. The single-disc should retail at around $28.98, whereas the two-disc edition should set you back around $30.97. Both discs will carry a 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen presentation, along with English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. The only extras on the single-disc will be a Batman Begins Mobile Game Demo and some Weblinks. The two-disc deluxe edition will carry that, along with a Genesis of the Bat: Batman Incarnations from the Mid-1980s to the Present doc, a Journey Begins: Creative Concepts, Story Development and Casting featurette, a Shaping Mind and Body: Fighting Style featurette, a Gotham City Rises: Production Design featurette, a Cape and Cowl: The New Batsuit featurette, and another featurette on the new Batmobile. Completing the package will be a Path to Discovery: Filming in Iceland featurette, aanother featurette on the Monorail Chase Sequence, a Confidential Files Character/Weapons Gallery, an exclusive 72-page comic book containing the very first Batman story, a Batman: The Man Who Falls feature on the classic story that inspired the film, and a chilling excerpt entitled Batman: The Long Halloween that also inspired the film. We're also expecting an audio commentary to be included too, although that wasn't confirmed within the initial press release.

Same as Constantine, kudos to WB for giving people a choice, i'll be going for that 2 disc set
post #18 of 33
Once again, Warners gives the single disc the better art.

Unlike last time though, the two-disc art straight up sucks.

Should've used this image.
2 Disc will be mine and yeah I don't dig that coverart.
I'll probably buy the two discs of BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS. If I buy BEGINS, which isn't a certainty by any means although I'd maybe like to reexamine it, I'd buy the one-disc.
Either one of these should've been the artwork

They should have just slapped all four films in one set, and sold it for $40-$50 tops.

The Alien Quad was $80, and had 2 versions of each film, and a lot more.

Hell, I wouldn't have even paid $80 for The Star Wars DVD collection.

October 18th = Lots of my money spent

Batman Collection
Batman Begins
Land Of The Dead
Big Lebowski: CE
WOW. Good thing my birthday's the 28th. All will be mine!
Although the font still sucks, I think the Region 2 covers are a bajillion times cooler than the inconsistent U.S. key art versions.

http://dvdanswers.com/index.php?r=0&...6x%3D0%26y%3D0

All they had to do was use a similar template for BATMAN BEGINS, and that would have been one bad-ass looking five-film boxset.
The UK versions are exactly what I would have done for the box art. Those logos stomp floaty heads every day of the week. They could also include Batman Begins with the rusty flat wing Batman logo.
I'm definitely going for BATMAN RETURNS and possibly the first.

Now how about a re-release of BEETLEJUICE....
Damn, those region 2 sets have better covers...and yes, the rusty BB wing would've fit in nicely........

but this is America damn it, where our technology has enabled us to grow lazy and have heads hovering, fuck..why boil a film down to it's most iconic elements when photoshop allows us to fucking paste together your own cover from promotional stills?
Wow, yeah, those R2 covers are fantastic. I see a couple of R2 DVD cover downloads in my future...

Beetlejuice is long overdue for a special edition. I think I remember hearing that it was on the back burner because Warner thought the transfer was "good enough"on the first edition. I haven't heard of anything since.

it's a shame because the current DVD is chopped in several scenes as well.
I sold my old copies of Batman, Returns, and Forever the other day.

I got $6 for all three.
What was cut out of the current Beetlejuice DVD? I am assuming the, "nice fucking model", line. If so, that is awful. That is one of the things I think about when that movie comes to mind.
