Darkwatch

According to Gamespot and IGN, Darkwatch is still going to be released 08/16/05, but I haven't seen anything about it going gold. I wonder if this one is going to get pushed back (yet again). Anyone heard any updates?

Nothing for sure, but I was at Gamestop last night (picked up Shadow Hearts: Covenant for 15$, haven't played an RPG in a while) and they still have 8/16 as the release date.

EB still has it listed for the 16th. I know gamefly has it on the 18th. They dont always announce games going gold, only really high profile, highly anticipated games get the general announcement, i.e. GameSpot news articles.

I played the demo recently from OXM and it's pretty fun, both demos were good, but recently I also played the multiplayer demo for it, which was also good and ran fine.

Still it may get delayed just before release like Cold Winter did, probably to work out network/online issues.

I've waited too long for this game for it to get pushed back again. I don't doubt that it'll be amazing, but I don't want to see it get kicked back again. I don't play many games and this is one I've actually wanted to get a hold of.

Actually, i dont think it'll get pushed back, I think GamePro's already ran the review in the magazine. I dont have the latest issue handy to check, but im quite sure it'll be released on time.

Yes Gamepro reviewed it favorably, awarding 4's for funfactor, controls and graphics (4.5 on Xbox for graphics) and 3.5 for sound, out of 5.

OPM gave it 3 disks out of 5, said that the levels are paced well, and that the multiplayer stuff is good.

Both reviewers sounded jaded or burned out, unlike us they play everything, so while they had a lot of good things to say about the game they also said that it's more of the same FPS stuff.

I am looking forward to the game still however, because I don't play every FPS, and I played both demos and they were great, even the online multiplayer.

The most recent EGM (subscription, so it probably isn't on newsstands yet) didn't review it. They'll probably have a review up soon on 1up.com though and in the next EGM.

Anybody played the Mortal Kombat: Shoalin Monks demo in this months OPM (subscription, so it probably isn't on newsstands yet)? I had a lot of fun with it, and it's going to be co-op.

Early word is good game but really short/easy story mode. Shit. I'm still getting it.

At least we have Far Cry next month and Half Life in October.

I still haven't seen or heard anything. Granted I've only checked Gamespot and IGN. Where are you getting your information? Tuesday is such a long ways away. I want a new game for this weekend.

Just pulling bits and pieces from "played it but can't review it officially yet" things. Read something from an EGM editor yesterday saying it was only around 5 or 6 hours long, then in the IGN letters section one of the editors seemed to confirm this with a "short and easy" comment.

I thought it was obnoxious. Liu Kang yips and YEEEs like a Jack Russel Terrier every time you press a button. God of War has raised the beat-em-up bar too high for clunky, ugly shit like this to impress. Plus, the sound effects had me ready to quit long before the demo ended.

Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (on the OXM demo), on the other hand, seems like a lot of fun.

I have a friend of mine works at a GameStop where I live and from what he say's they are getting it on Wednesday the 17th of this month.

7.9 from IGN

Sounds like yet another FPS with a lackluster story mode. Is it that hard to make a good single player FPS?

I'll probably still get it.

Looks great, controls great, fun weapons, vampire horse and a shit ton of bad guys, I like (only about an hour in though).

I won't have a chance to play until this weekend and I am looking very forward to blocking off some time and losing myself into the Vampire West.

I don't care if the single player game is finished in 10 hours, if it's 10 hours of fun.

It's neat to shoot off a snipers gun/bow arm only to have him pull a knife with the remaining limb and leap three stories up/down to kill you head on. I also like that if you pick off both arms the bad guy stands there and screams at you, fun stuff.

Weapon and enemy variety seem a little slim.

I might have to give this a rent now, that sounds great. Hehehe.

Me and my brother beat the game co-op in about 6 hours on the "light" side of the vampire "force" on the 3rd hardest difficulty, it got very boring and repetative. Like the reviews say the hit detection is a problem at times, and the story is pretty lame (not that I care), voice acting is bad, lots of short cut scenes, which on PS2 means lots of loads times, but the Xbox version doesn't have co-op so I had no choice. The Splitter nades (PS2 only) were kind of useless, and the extra horseback mission level (PS2 only) isn't that great.

Think of it as almost a Serious Sam in the vampire filled old West, but with a few special powers you could use, but mostly don't.

It was satisfying shooting arms, legs, and heads off, and the pyshics were pretty cool. The art design of the game was decent, but the graphics were all very similar, muddy, and it was really hard to tell what was going on a lot of the time making it hard to tell where enemies were most of the time, unless you used your "blood vision".

To anyone like me who was excited about this game from the demos, i would say rent it first.

I will be trading it in tomorrow for about 26 dollars in credit hopefully (I paid for it with game credits so I don't care).

p.s. theres a cut scene with a sex scene in the game, you don't see much if anything, but still I wonder if those a-holes will bring up Darkwatch in the same breath as GTA? Probably not since Darkwatch will never sell as many copies as GTA.

Yeah, it was short, really short. Played through the "evil" side on regular difficulty and beat it last night after maybe five hours. Started a "good" game on the third hardest difficulty and that's even easier, the first "good" power you get, the silver bullet, just destroys everything. You have to kill these respawn tree lookin' things quite a bit, with the silver bullet power and a shotgun they only take two hits.

You get this steam powered Warthog car with twin guns on top, but you use it exactly ONE time in the game for maybe two minutes. The horseback levels beat that with a grand total of two missions.

It's fun and I'll be playing through a few more times, but this will be getting traded for FarCry in a few weeks.
