Long interview, but, important since this is the first time anybody rational's been able to grab this guy's ear for more than a minute. Nevertheless, skip to the 20 minute mark, which is kinda where things get interesting.
Highlights:
Asked about the lawsuit from the 85 year old grandmother who's suing Rockstar over GTA's content. His argument is that GTA was rated as one thing when it was actually another. As in, it was rated M when it was really AO. The common sense question: Why would you have bought your young grandson a game with EITHER ONE of those ratings???
He gets into the inevitable controversy over Bully. And yeah, he's right. Rockstar might as well paint a giant bullseye on their rooftop for when this game gets released. But I just love how Thompson brings up the fact that the game is being pre-ordered on websites already as being dangerous. Now, I could be wrong about this....but I don't think all that many underage innocent kids own Visa, Mastercard, or Discover. Could it be that the game is actually being bought by ::gasp:: full grown adults??? Possibly even by the kids' parents?
By the way, he goes into this self-righteous bit later about it being foolish to release a game in this day and age where schoolkids are beating each other up. And he's late to that party. I remember playing a game once where Middle and High School kids were beating the hell out of each other afterschool, using not only their fists but, baseball bats, knives, swords...it was horrible. And what made it worse, the TEACHERS were in on it. The gym teacher made his kids do sit ups, only to beat them with a cane when they screwed up. God bless men like Jack Thompson who are alert and aware, making sure another game like Rival Schools is never released.
And right after that, around the 31 minute mark, the interviewer breaks the calm facade. That sigh is priceless.
