The Truman Show SE

It's out on 8/23.

Features:

The Truman Show - Special Collector's Edition - a special edition DVD featuring the two-part "Making of the Truman Show" documentary, four deleted/ extended scenes, photo gallery, theatrical trailers and TV spots.

One of my faves. I'm really looking forward to the documentary. For a film that I've always liked, I forgot about it over the years. After its release in theaters, I don't think the film got the attention it deserved. This and ETERNAL SUNSHINE include Carrey's best and most underrated performances, IMHO.

About friggin time, jeez. But it doesnt sound like a SPECIAl edition, isnt there even a director/screenwriter commentary?

Don't know about a commentary. This film deserves one, or two or three.

A new anamorphic transfer is enough to sell me on it, but Paramount doesn't usually disappoint with their two-discers. Those docs might be lengthier than we imagine. Here's hoping anyway.

EDIT: It's 19.99 retail, which means you shouldn't have to pay any more than 15 bucks for it. Nice.

Before the initial DVD even came out, I'd read an interview with the director who said that there was this feature they'd filmed, which was basically like a TV show about the Truman Show with all the actors in character and stuff, it sounded very cool (I think the beginning of the film basically has a few segments of that footage), I hope its on the DVD.

And a commentary with Niccol and Weir would have been excellent.

Would have been nice if they had included the test scene Niccol shot with Gary Oldman.

Best Special Feature on this DVD: While you watch the movie, Ed Harris watches you.

And strokes your head while you sleep in green night-vision hues.

I think Weir's only done one commentary (DEAD POETS SOCIETY), but otherwise he's not big on it. That's a shame - he's one smart, articulate chap.
