Only if Uwe Boll directs....
Yes, but only with a great script and an old-school director.

So, no.

Alien 5: In Space

I read something on here long ago (I think it was Nick that wrote it) about what should happen with the franchise, and I still think it's a damned good idea.

They should just keep churning these out. One every two years or so. Put a limit on the budget, so it's never some tentpole thing. Let some new up-and-comer direct it. See what can really be done.

Just get over Ripley already. There is lots of story that can be told without constantly trying to shoehorn Ripley into the thing.
Why not? There's always the chance that some up-and-coming director will create something great. And if it sucks, we can ignore it like we do with Resurrection.
Please, NO! I saw "Resurrection" recently for the first time since it's release and I'd forgotten how horrible it was. Really, it's awful, even worse than Alien v. Predator (which sucked).
Seriously, I've given Ressurection a couple of chances after some years and thought the same thing, but...it really is as bad as I remember. I know that now.
Heck yeah. I've always wanted to see an Alien movie where they're on Earth.

You know something is wrong with your horror movie when the scariest moment is:

\no more alien movies, please... The premise is limited in what can done with it...
It's actually moments like that which make me enjoy aspects of RESSURECTION. Remove Ripley and you've got the makings of a good movie there, especially with those beautiful arms.
Though, you guys gotta admit that scene where Dan Hedaya's soldier pushes Johner with his rifle and then Johner says "Don't touch me again" is pretty cool.

And Gary Dourdan's Christie was cool. If only the film were better written (and lived up to it's title)....

I had to go through the same thing with Star Trek V. "Oh no, it couldn't possibly be as bad as I remember." Sometimes, your memory doesn't exaggerate.

no up-and-coming director in the whole universe could make a good A5 all by him/herself: all the 4 movies so far have had brilliant directors. the problem, of course, is that the first two also had phenomenal scripts, while the last two... well... not so much (to put it mildly).

so before the issue of a director even comes up, there's the more important issue of a solid script to be found.
This is one of those movies that would be done well, but it won't be. I really think that the Alien series is some of the best Sci-Fi there is, but ever since the studios completly ruined Alien 3 and then came out with Ressurection, you knew there was something wrong.
what about trying out some of the dark horse comic ideas? they would probably work better as shorts but Berserker was pretty cool and i would love to see the Pig idea on a big screen

Why bother, they shold have never cloned Ripley in the first place.

There is absolutely no reason to continue this series. We will always have Alien and Aliens, that's all we need. Seriously.

Well, define "need". We don't really need any movie. If two bad sequels haven't hurt your appreciation of the first two films, why would a third one? I'm just saying there's no harm in trying again. It's no different than any other film project; it will work or it won't. The fact that it's an Alien film hardly matters, except that it will be more likely to make money.
There may be no 'need' to do another film, but I think the whole Alien saga could easily be the back drop for any number of good films. It all depends on who is involved though.

I like Alien 3 and while it isn't up there with the first two it is still a damn fine movie. The whole artsy bleakiness of it actually works pretty well.

Resurrection is the sole train wreck of the series imo. And that's too bad because I was really hoping that Jeunet could pull off something good with his shot at it.
I believe the ALIEN franchise is still viable with the inclusion of Ripley. All it takes is a writer who is committed and a studio who is out to make a brilliant picture as opposed to just a blockbuster hit. ALIEN was a work of art *first* and a blockbuster second.
I'd like to see an adaptation of William Gibsons original script for Alien 3 - with a few tweaks to make it make sense in the context of being the fifth film and not the third - maybe with all new characters.

They should have never killed the other two after Aliens, what a fucking stupid move.

Aliens 5 on Earth..........would Earth be full of them? How would the Aliens get on Earth?

I'm sure it would be easy enough to impregnate someone with a Queen than bring em back to Earth for an all out war.
The idea of an Earth invasion is somewhat tired in my opinion. An all out war is not what originally excited me about these films. "Perfect Organism" that's what gets my blood rising. What is a perfect organism? I'd like to see more science involved in this science fiction. I like the idea of darkness, confusion, one Alien, unknown terror, and the terror of scientific discovery.

If there is to be a new film it needs to be scary. The alien just isn't scary any more and I would rather not see another film proliferate the idea of 'bugs chasing us.' David Fincher tried to bring the Alien back to it's roots and on many levels he succeeded. AR derailed that effort

Here's to finding true terror, and making the alien scary again.

I always wanted to see an origin Story like Scott was working at for his alien 5.
It would be interesting if they did an origin story with absolutely no humans. Just Aliens, maybe with a different species of aliens (as in, not the ones with a phallus for a head) thrown in for good measure. Something that can come close to matching the ferocity of the original Aliens, looks cool, and isn't the fucking predator. I find it hard to believe that these things need to wait for a human to cross space just to continue their species. These things obviously have infected many races across space.

It could work, it might not. Its an idea.

I've been reading speculation about another Alien film on fansites pretty much since AR came out, and I suspect that at this point, it's just not going to happen. Every several months, we get some blurb about how Cameron or Scott is interested in doing another one and how they met with Sigourney to discuss "ideas," but nothing ever comes of it. And to be honest, maybe that's for the best. I realize that AR sucked balls and was a horrible way to wrap up the series (at least A3 had a good script, mostly on par with the first two, if not very memorable characters; AR was just a big, dumb action film), but where else do you take the story? The whole "OMG They're On Earth!" thing always seemed kinda banal to me and besides, that isn't a plot in and of itself. I imagine they've also kicked around the idea of doing a prequel regarding the Space Jockey and all that stuff. I think that would be terrible, as the WTF-ishness of that section of Alien, I think, really adds a lot.
After AVP, unless they come up with an astounding idea or it is directed by Scott, Cameron, Cronenberg, or someone equally suited to the role............I'm going to pass. AVP is just too painful a memory.

Actually the script for the first ALIEN was nothing special, a standard monster script with one good scene in it (the chestburster). It could've been a standard B-monster movie (it was originally written for a Corman like production). What made it rise above was Ridley Scott's direction, the Giger design (probably what contributed the most) and the formidable acting chops of the cast. It was a once in a lifetime coming together of brilliant elements.

That's why I don't hold ALIENS in such high regards. It's a great movie, but nowhere near the masterpiece the first one is. It has a borederline B-movie feel to it (especially the acting). The direction is good, but not great and the aliens are just obviously stunt guys in suits (with inferior design elements). It's more of a straight forward roller coaster ride and fades over time. ALIEN doesn't go away.

Ok. Why was the compnay after the Alien in the first place? As a WEAPON, right? What for? And why are all these kick-a55 marines running around with all this cool gear? FOR A WAR! so Alien 5 should show that war. who are they fighting, other humans? alien species? super intelligent shades of the colour blue? maybe humans are being beaten in some far reach of the galaxy and we actually NEED the Aliens to win. How about that for a twist, Weyland was actually trying to save humanity by destroying the enemy that wants to destroy all mankind.

just as a dream thought, have Terry Gilliam direct. ;-)
