Movies you watch over and over for no rational reason. - Page 3

when ever they're on TV I can't help but watch:

Jurassic Park
Jaws
Ghostbusters
Aliens
The Thing

I do like these films and from that point of view thats the reason I watch them when they appear on the TV schedules but I have all of them on DVD and both Jaws and JP have yet to be broken out of their wrappers....

I also seem to end up watching utter shit movies on TV I'd never be seen dead normally watching at the movies or on DVD yet the films below get an almost 100% hit rate when I catch them on the TV whilst flicking through the channels....

Star Trek V: The final frontier
Jason X
JP 2: The lost world
Street Fighter

Some are worse than others (Street Fighter is frankly the worst) but its almost like watching a car crash in slow motion and there I'll sit as it cruises through and wastes 1hr 45min of my life and I end up sitting there as the credits roll thinking "Christ that was utter shit, what was I thinking?"

Umm, sorry, do you happen to be french?

Yeah, and lemme add some Broken Arrow to the list. Dumber than a planeful of snakes as it is, it still has cool settings, Travolta hamming it up to the Nth, and lots of impossible kindergarten-level gunfights. Along with Hard Target, I'd even say it's John Woo's best american flick yet just for the unpretentiousness that then abandoned his career.

Oh, and speaking of impossibles, I know the first MI by heart, but the second also compells me to watch it as there was some miniature Mola Ram chanting from inside the DVD case. As for the first one I don't care, cause it's a fantastic movie, but MI-2 is dreck city almost all the way.

I have probably watched The Big Lebowski more than any other film.

If I've had a rough day...The Big Lebowski
If I've had a good day... The Big Lebowski
If it's Christmas...The Big Lebowski

Other flicks:
Trainspotting
Day of the Dead
Requiem For A Dream
Hard Boiled

Session 9- I have this flick but I never watch it. If it's on TV though I will watch it no matter what else is on. They could be reporting live from the apocalypse and I would be watching Session 9. I'm not sure why.
Other I can't think of at this moment.

Most notably, I once had a quasi-obsession with Big Trouble in Little China. Must have watched that way over 200 times. At one point I would watch it like 5 times a week.

Others were:
Friday
Half Baked
Men at Work

Now those three are all fairly low budget, crass comedies. Small movies that often lend themselves to repeat viewings. You often hear people (as in this thread) talk of their 'repeat viewing' movies, and its usually not big blockbusters or award winners. However, lately, for some reason I have taken to watching "Sahara" quite a bit. A fairly standard big-budget action movie, I know, but I just like it. Probably watch it when I get home from work tonight.

I've seen the Rodney Dangerfield, Jonathan Brandis abortion that is Ladybugs about 4 times. It always seems to be on during one of my bouts of insomnia.

I've also seen the staggeringly homoerotic Sidekicks 2 or 3 times.

I've gotten high maybe twice in my life, but I've watched Half-Baked more times than I can remember due to hanging out with potheads a couple of years ago.

Also, any time any Indy movie comes on, I have to watch it to the end.

1) Troy- for some reason this is on endless rotation on HBO/Cinemax and I watch it every time I see it on.
2) Bad Santa- Officially my all time favorite comedy.
3) John Carpenters Vampires- I watch it almost every Sunday Night for some God-awful reason. It's just become a ritual.

Sleepy Hollow-God knows why
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen-At least 30 times. Why? Cause its fuckin great!
Gladiator-I adore every cheesy second of this
The Big Lebowski-no explanation needed
LA Story-Something about this movie is beyond excellent. Terrific film
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas-it never gets old

I definitely had a real problem with "Back to the Future II" and "Ferris Bueller" for a long time. I don't own it, but I will always watch at least a few minutes of "Kazaam" should I stumble upon it on cable.

I always used to watch that one whenever the Disney channel aired it. One of Ben Stiller's only great performances, and the orgy of eating scene that occurs after the campers are liberated is fantastic.
