Lists are nice guys, but how about TALKING about these movies?

One thing I don't like about the CHUD boards is the fact that too many people just list things

You find it annoying people are listing movies on a thread in a section titled "Drafts & Lists"? Now if it were in "Focused Film Discussions", you'd defintely have a point....

I also note you didn't offer up a movie on topic for this thread, nor any discussion about it. Did we just stop by to bitch?
Under the excuse of "showing it to friends", I've watched City of God time and time again.

Also, since buying the DVD, I must have watched Dazed and Confused 50+ times already.

And I never get tired of either one.

You know, I could have sworn I DID post something, but you're right. I apologize.

Freddy vs. Jason. I know it's bad for me, I know this. I know that at the end of the movie, I will shamefacedly ask myself why I wasted a precious hour and a half of my time. I also know that I will inevitably watch it again. I can't help it. It's the cinematic version of squeezing an entire cannister of Cheese Whiz into my gob. I can't help myself, but know I will hate myself later. I think my fascination stems from the apropos of nothing line, "Freddy's weakness is fire. Jason's is water. How can we use that to our advantage?" Classic crap.

I own this movie on DVD. There's something awesomely bad about it that I can't turn away from when its on.

I'll also add to my list The Problem Child movies and the Mighty Duck series. None of these films are any good, and in fact all have numerous charcacters who are quite possibly the most annoying characters on film, yet I have watched these movies many a time on cable.

Do you think that it’s possible their opinion differs from yours? Perhaps they feel that Fight Club is “a movie that you watch when they come on, yet you aren't really sure why because they aren't necessarily films you like”. Even though I enjoy Fight Club, it’s very possible that they don’t.

Anyway, for me this list ends and begins with Empire Records. Looking at it objectively the film has no real redeeming qualities. Yet whenever it’s playing on “We” or some other lame channel, I always stop and watch it.
I hated Empire Records. I know plenty of people who dig it, but I couldn't attach myself to anything in that movie, maybe I'm too old to get it. The performances were good and some of the dialogue was witty, but if you're climax is Renee Zelwegger attempting to sing, you're movie has problems. Then again any movie with Zelwegger has problems.

Bill and Ted

Me, I've got a thing for innocuous comedies. Joe Dirt, Dickie Roberts, Night at the Roxbury, early Adam Sandler stuff - especially Billy Madison. Can't get enough of it.

Other flicks I watch over and over for no apparent reason include
Mousehunt
Kissing Jessica Stein (don't ask)
Bubba Ho-Tep
Die Hard
any of the Child's Play movies...
the list goes on forever

Road House. I don't own it in any format, but every time I stumble upon it on TV,
I watch it. God help me.
It's the power of Swayze's mullet. It compels you.

For me, I can't quite get enough of:

The Shawshank Redemption
Contact
That Thing You Do
Iron Giant
Starship Troopers
Any James Bond movie that happens to show up on the tube
Shaun of the Dead
Braveheart
and my guilty pleasure...Pumpkinhead
Nothing to feel guilty about.

As for me: Spy Game has infinite replay value. Too bad Scott followed it up with such crap.
I've seen THE LAST BOY SCOUT about 20+ times since I bought it a month ago. It's wealth of quotable dialogue and scenes help the film hold up to repeated viewings.
Ong-Bak, based on the merits that I cannot view enough people getting shattered by flying knees and elbows.

Bubble Boy, for whatever reason.... maybe it's 500 dolla!!!

A Knight's Tale, not sure about that one, don't like it or dislike, but I watch it er' time it's on.

Any of Van Damme's older movies, not sure why either. They aren't exactly good, but I enjoy them.
Big Trouble In Little China
One Crazy Summer
Better Off Dead
Trading Places

Most times, I will pass a movie by if I own it on DVD, but might watch it later when I can view the whole thing instead of picking up on it half-way through, but these four, I've seen so many times, it just doesn't matter. Especially BTLC. Always. Jack Burton waits for no man.
All The Lord of the Rings, seen all of them about 82 times each ^_^.
Half-baked
LXG
Underworld
X-Men
The Cheap Detective, Murder By Death, Clue, and The Emperor's New Groove all generally get heavy rotation as Sunday morning cartoons, although my couch-sitting time has been light this month.

I'm still enjoying Auto Focus enough that it hasn't become boring yet. I like the unclean feeling I'm left with at the end. And because my vinyl plays like someone used it for tapdancing on gravel roads, The Last Waltz DVD gets played a lot. I've only watched it a few times, but I've heard it bunches.

And Blade Runner. A dietary staple, as far as I'm concerned.

I thought it was a LONG fuckin' movie because I had left it running in the background for a couple of hours. Once the acid kicked in I ended up watching the film a few more times, morbidly fascinated with it. Now, my attention wasn't always fixated on the film, but I kept returning to check it out over the next few HOURS. Eventually it got to me. I suspected something was amiss. I remember thinking taht this fucking flick was NEVER going to end. Not being of sane mind, it wasn't until many hours later that it occurred to me to just stop the tape and end the pain.

When I had my feet planet in reality again, I looked at the tape's running time and it was like 90-plus fucking minutes. I swore it was like Berlin fuckin' Alexanderplatz.

Does that count?
Not really, but I love the story either way.

Whenever these are aired I just have to tune in even if I own the DVD...

Speed
Drop Dead Gorgeous
Army of Darkness
Falling Down
Flatliners
Demolition Man
Way of the Gun
Lost Boys
Wasabi
Just Visiting
Groundhog's Day
Point Break
I've seen Beetlejuice about 70 times.
Movies I tend to watch when they show up on TV (dumb or otherwise):

Legally Blonde
Groundhog Day
Murphy's Romance
Army of Darkness
Zoolander
16 Candles
Shop Around the Corner
Stripes
Meet Me in St. Louis

Movies I own and have on regular rotation:

The Secret of Roan Inish
Cold Comfort Farm
Persuasion
Mallrats
Super Troopers
About a Boy
Amelie

Next month when the 2 disk SE All the President's Men DVD comes out, it will also get regular play at my house.
I bought these because they're (mostly) good movies, but there was no reason for me to watch them as many times as I have. That's not gonna stop me, though, and I certainly can't stop myself:

Ginger Snaps
eXistenZ
Starship Troopers
When Harry Met Sally
Ghost World

I bought Primer a while ago, but I just recently watched it again, and I know it will be a few days before it goes back on the shelf.
Oh, and Dune! How could I forget about Dune? Everytime it pops up on TV I am inexplicably compelled to watch it.
Although I think that your list has some good films (Big Trouble, Escape, and Ferris B) amongst the actual dreck you've listed, I unfortunately have been sucked into watching a lot of shitty movies myself.

One in particular as of late for me is The Faculty. Now I honestly don't think this film is bad, but it definitely qualifies as a guilty pleasure. I had never seen this until recently, but now every single time I land on it I just can't tear myself away. I think it's actually well made and fun despite it's numerous flaws. Hell I might even buy the DVD someday if the price is right.

These are but a few that I have suffered through inexplicably on more than one occasion.

King Kong Lives
Marci X
House of the Dead
Cobra
Sniper
Assassins
Jaws 3D
The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Seed of Chucky
28 Days Later (Yeah I know many people love it, but damn how I HATE this movie!)

Good Fellas, and Full Metal Jacket are masterpieces. Even though I've grown weary of our fascination with the mafia, GF is undeniably excellent, and FMJ is one of my favorite films.

I'm always watchin hook with robbin williams, almost once a week since i bought it lol

LEGENDS OF THE FALL. There I said it. Oh sweet Jesus I need help.
The Bourne Identity. Every three or four months I get the urge to watch it, I put on the DVD and I strangely seem to pass out until I wake up next morning and find out in the newspaper someone important has been assassinated. Weird.

Now seriously, I am so fucking addicted to that movie that I still have to refrain from rewatching the infinitely superior Supremacy just for fear someday it'll lose all my love for it.

Yeah, that's sad.

AND the James Bond flicks. All 20 of them I watch them at least thrice a year, so based on my calculations I kinda lose 2 hours by twenty multiplied by three... off 365 days a year... aw, fuck it.

Hudson Hawk.

Any time it's on Comedy Central, I'll watch it until it's done.

Ouch. That comes close to beating my "Bio Dome" addiction in the worst film category.
Hudson Hawk is nowhere near as miserable as Bio Dome.
A few years ago, I got sucked into Bicentennial Man every time it aired on Starz.

Movies I can watch anytime or seem to be drawn to every time they are airing on cable.

Goodfellas
A Time to Kill
Friday

There's more. I just can't think of them now.
Confessions of a Dangerous mind is a great movie and I watch it religiously.

The Mummy Returns and Bad Boys II are always blasting my home cinema's ass off.

Braveheart. Another 48 hrs. Dobermann. Alien 4. True Lies. Casino. Romeo is Bleeding. 24 Hour Party People. Four Brothers. Matrix 2 and 3. The Rock, for Ed Harris. I would probably watch The Hours a good deal if I owned it.

Have recently developped a raging fetish for Alec Baldwin, Eddie Murphy and Rutger Hauer movies and will probably purchase as many as possible. Just ordered Nighthawks and Flesh and Bone.
For a short while I watched Princess Mononoke a couple of times. Each repeat viewing is better than the last. (Same goes for LotR.)

The Miramax dub is horrible BTW.

But it sucks, none the less. Something about Bruce Willis and Danny Aiello breaking into song frightens me more than Asian horror films could ever hope to.

You messed up. You spelled "Die hard" correctly, but we'll let it slide because of the punctuation error.

Seriously dude. Get a spell checker.

I always have time for Saving Private Ryan. Not the best film but, as a wiser man than me once said,

"War... it's FANTASTIC!"

Kill Bill Vol. 2. I get sucked into the story everytime and seem to enjoy seeing Bill die way more than i should.
For me it's Disturbing Behavior. I cannot turn that damn movie off. It's an okay movie, but goddamn, I've seen it like thirty times already and I'll watch it the next time it's on too.

The Faculty is my runner-up.

Billy Elliot, I'm a sucker for Father/Son angst movies, and well Billy is one of the better ones. I also love the "Angry Dance" Billy does after Mrs. Wilkinson comes to his house and has a tiff with his older brother.
