Quick question about Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

At the end of the movie, when Lucious Malfoy pulls his wand out of the cane, and Dobby saves him, what spell is Lucious about to cast? My brother swears it's Avada Cadavra, my sister's not sure, and I wonder what others think.

I was under the same impression. Seems Malfoy wants to finish the job then and there, though the one he should be pointing the wand at is Dobby. Thankfully the fourth film will leave out pretty much all the house elf stuff.

Not sure about the movie, but I actually started watching it again a while ago. Only got about 1/2 hour into it though before something came up. Anyway, the book is here in my reach so I looked and in there Lucius Malfoy gets angry and just rushes at Harry before Dobby knocks him back with some magic. Then Malfoy gets up and draws his wand but does nothing since Dobby is there with a finger raised telling him he will not harm Harry.

I'll get back to the movie soon hopefully.

It's definitely Avada Cadavra. You can hear him begin to say it.

That's what I think. I know it doesn't say anything in the book, but rather something Jason Isaacs says. Thanks for your opinions. (That's why I love the CHUD boards. Just a bunch of movie fans getting together and talking about insignificant stuff.)

if you want a true roundtable discussion about this go to any Harry Potter fansite on the net (choose one of the billion or so that are out there) and raise the issue there. We all seem to agree with you here, but i bet you will get a lot of interesting responses there. I am sure people will try and argue insignificant points like whether the spell will really work based on the angle at which the wand is pointed. Ah the internet, a place to exchange pornography, bond over films, and argue about the most miniscule detail.

No thanks man. Some of those places are weird. I'm good enough with your answers. Thanks.

It is indeed Avada Kedavra.

I went to a HP fansite or 2 after I read HBP to look up some theories...those places are indeed weird and scary.

There's no question it's Avada Cadavra. My question is, was anybody else fucking stunned at Malfoy's audacity to try and use that spell inside Hogwarts, 20 feet from Dumbledore's office, on his star pupil? Jesus.....

I think that they tried to make more out of the point that Malfoy is bad, even though we pretty much realize it once we hit books 4 and 5. I think since the film came out the same time book 4 was already on shelves it helped clue people in a little bit to Malfoy actually being evil and not caring what the consequences were. Also, since at this point in the series, readers already knew Voldemort was back, it was alright to show Malfoy not caring. Kind of a precurseor to the thought that yes he might have killed Harry in Hogwarts right under Dumbledores nose, but since he did so, his master, Voldemort, would protect him. Kind of a shame that they did not realize that Voldemort was not even close to full strength yet and Dumbledore would have spanked Malfoy like the bratty little shit he is.

Or, they could have just included this to give people something to talk about on message boards since they probably figured we would all get sick of talking about Half Blood Prince at some point this summer.
