Arrested Development Season 3 - Page 3

Found this episode to be funnier than the opener, which I thought was off. I don't care if they add a "Previously on" tag, as I understand the intention. Didn't throw me off as much as it seemingly did for all of you.

They probably wanted to get to a Charlize Theron episode quickly for the star power. So, they tacked on that expository opening so it wasn't completely insane. If I'm right, then God knows what they're going to do with that missing episode.
I was wondering why there was an recap at the beginning.

FOR BRITISH EYES ONLY!

While i like the episode a lot, I found it to drag a little in the middle and I was completely unimpressed with Charlize Theron. Maybe I didn't like her before (never really had an opinion), but I found her part really forced. Plus, knowing she is there for a six or seven episode run really stinks...

But the three way chicken dance, with Gob running in late and then Michael starting to cluck at the end...AWESOME!
Now the image at the bottom right corner of imoscar.com makes sense.
So what tier of cable do I need to get WeeBBC?
I agree that Andy Griffith has to make an appearance sometime this season. We've had the Fonz, we're getting Chachi, so we need to get Andy Taylor. Can't wait to see what they do with Tom Bosley, the guy who played Potsie, Joanie, and the rest.

I thought this episode was great. My highlights...

Michael: More touching!

Michael: If you're really lonely you should get yourself a girl... a pet.
Buster: How about a turtle? I've always loved those leathery, little, snappy faces.
Michael: You certainly have a type.

Gob: It's a protest-tacular, if you will!
Later in the episode...
Tobias: I so very much would like to be in your prostate-tickler.

The three way chicken dance was great, but Gob missing out on the fun and screaming, "Come on!" made the bit for me.

Tranny shopowner: Are you gonna buy this time or are you just curious?
Tobias: I suppose I'm...bi-curious. I have a big TV opportunity.
Tranny: This is where all the big "T.V.s" come.

Gob: That's a woman's wig.
Tobias: I was told that it was a "Bob".

Michael: You're a regular Brad Garrett.

Rita: I'll make you blue.

Michael eating "candy beans".

Tobias: There's someone I'd like to put in a plug for...or should I say 4,000 plugs.
Maid: Mister Gay is bleeding!

George, Sr.: Andy Griffith isn't coming. He didn't like his trailer.
Ron Howard: No one was making fun of Andy Griffith. I can't emphasize that enough!
Later at the courthouse...
Harry Hamlin: I love my trailer.

Lindsay: What a great turn out.
Michael: I think a lot of people are here for free chicken.

Gob: Where every day it rains... PENNIES FROM HEAVEN!!!! (Bird flies out jacket)

Gob: I'll show you a man who yearns to be...FREE AS A BIRD!!!! (Pennies fall from sky).

I must say the whole British bit was lost on me. I had no idea they were spoofing the Bond films, as I have never seen one. I get the feeling that Rita is related to the British guy. I took the "How would you like me going after someone in your family?" line less as a harmful threat and more as a "Don't date my daughter" line. Also what is up with Rita wearing little kid back packs? She had the tweety bird one on during this ep and in the previews for next week, she has on a seal (which prompts Buster to attck her).

Also, I seem to remember Michael getting attacked by the Mary Poppins doll in one of the earlier seasons. Can anyone confirm?

Edit: I also remember someone getting knocked over by a pinata in Mexico. Maybe that's what I'm thinking of.

"FOR BRITISH EYES ONLY!" alone was worth the price of admission.

At first I thought Charlize Theron was Dave Thomas' mentally challenged daughter. Something about her costume, simple dialogue and inflections, and something Dave Thomas shouted to Michael by the cars. But at the end it seemed pretty obvious she was the British criminal that George Sr. was talking about.

I'm just finding this show more amusing than funny. The chicken dance bit was funny, but not the height of comedy some here are proclaiming it. There's a lot of hyperbole around this show, some justified, some not, and I think the fact that it's just so different from any other sitcom has people embracing it more than they normally would. I'm not hating on it, but the "greatest comedy ever" tag eludes me for some reason.
I also loved that Michael had to dial an international prefix to call Dave Thomas.

Does anyone else see a "Downing Street Memo" reference in the near future or is it just me?

I don't think its the greatest comedy ever. However, it is by far funnier than any comedy currently airing on netowrk TV. Also, I would call some of Season 2's episodes as brilliant. Check out "Good Grief" if you haven't seen it. That episode has layers upon layers of jokes.

I still have that episode saved on my TiVo. Probably will always be on there, if I get my way.
That episode hurt me. I didn't feel that Wee Britain, Micheal trusting George Sr. again, or any of the James Bond references worked well.

Plus, I hate to say it, but they killed the Chiken Dance. It worked when it was just GOB's, it fit GOB's personality, Lindasay having a chicken dance was funny, but didn't really work that well, but now...

Oh and Tobias used to get lines that weren't just double entendries, and he was still funny.

Still good TV, and the first 10 minutes were funnier than any other sitcom currently airing.

I believe that they are going for a reveal that Rita is...erm...mentally challenged. There seemed to be a lot of clues to suggest this in this episode:

.George Michael says he has a "stupid girl problem" and Michael replies that he doesn't even have a girl. much less a stupid one
.Michael thinks that Rita works at the school for "special" kids, but she says that "I like to think that they teach me". When Michael asks "Like what, how to eat crayons, how to throw tantrums" she says "Oh no, not while I'm there. I'm very good". She's talking about her OWN behavior. Later she says that maybe she can "sneak out during nap time".
.As stated, Dave Thomas's line about "How would you like someone going after some stupid person in your family"- he is clearly a relative of Rita's who is being protective of her
.Lindsay's line about "She is way out of your league"

Im with you 100 percent, or at least I was until the end of the episode, when she and the father got in the car together. It seemed to me like she was mentally challenged (my reponse was the exact same to all those things), but that ending (plus what ron howard said in the narration) leads me to believe that she might be more than that.

We'll see.

As far as greatest comedy ever, I already believe that this is the greatest sitcom of all time. In 2 short seasons, its already produced more laughs than any sitcom I ever remember watching.

Not all the jokes are gutbusters, but there are a ton of gutbusters. The punchlines are also a bit more subtle than your basic two camera sitcom. I liken Arrested development to Mitch Hedberg's stand up style. If you let it sit in, you realize how genius it is, but there are going to be some people who just dont like it.
I need to start taping this show because there's simply too much brilliance per episode to only see it once. I missed so many jokes because I was laughing so hard at Tobias' business card.
Holy shit.

Super...Dave...Osborne.

Bob Loblaw's stuff was good too. "Yes, but I will be needing to get off in 4 minutes."

I feel the same way, there are so many throwaway lines and mumbled asides I almost always miss some good stuff.

This may not be the "greatest sitcom ever", but it sure as hell deserves the "brilliant" label.

SUPER FUCKING DAVE...this show solidified its role as greatest sitcom ever bitch!!!

Super FUCKING DAVE as George Sr.'s surrogate!!! COME ON!!!

The roofi's were great. GOB was on fire today.

I loved the british-american restaurant. With a basket full of doughnuts.

Also, it seemed pretty obvious to me, but when Rita woke up on the bench, the letters around her spelled "Wee Brain".

I am guessing the brits are posing her as a special needs girl, but the bluth's are totally missing the point.

I liked Loblaw much more than i thought I would. Baio's no nonsense portrayal of him works. I also love that he has a stenographer with him at ALL TIMES.

And of course...Tobias...although its becoming a bit like beating a dead horse, beating a dead horse has never been so hilarious! All the different ways they make him come off gay is amazing. Great great stuff.

Analrapist!

BWAHAHAAa

"I will.......I will".

I missed half the jokes I was laughing so hard.
The wordplay in this show is worthy of Rocky & Bullwinkle. They really should get a special Emmy just for the name "Bob Loblaw."

Very funny, as usual (the Lifetime-movie music and drama was hysterical), but I'm not sure how much I like this "For British Eyes Only" plotline.

Also: It was nice to see Super Dave again.
Glad to know I wasn't the only one that saw the "Wee Brain" reference.

The American restuarant was hilarious, especially when Michael got hit by the Poppins again while carrying carry out bags.

Analrapist... pure gold.

And I loved the transcript of the phone conversation. That was pretty damn funny.

I'm a little ashamed to say that last night's episode popped my AD cherry.

Funny. As. Hell. I feel sorry for not helping to support this show more, but you can bet I'll be buying the DVD sets now.

Last night's episode is a great one for initiating new viewers.

God, the name Bob Loblaw should NOT be as funny as it is. And the forget-me-nows...Jesus, that's some good shit.

"Hey, that's the name of this show!"

My fiance had no idea the narrator of the show was Ron Howard until last night.
Gob: "If you like the small, why don't you come back for the medium?"

It's only after typing it out that I realized how fucking funny that line is.

EDIT to point out that they just put 'dd' in place of the l's on the "You're killing me Buster" banner.
Yeah, god bless this show.

And I love the titles of these brit episodes if nothing else ("forget me now" was a perfect titles for this roofie-tastic episode.)

I am excited for next week's, "Notapussy".
Should be noted that there will be no new AD until October 31st.
So, was that a different Marta? A new one? Were they making fun of the fact that she changed actresses?
Fucking great episode.

You said it man! This ep was comedic gold. I loved every second of it.

Damn it, damn it, damn it. I missed it again. This new night is really screwing with me. Wish I new where to d/l episodes.

october 31st?!?!?

I hate the new fox schedule . . . three eps and then into repeats for all their shows?

that's really weak ( i know I know, baseball, but still simpsons and fam guy were repeats last sunday, too though).

If you are into the torrent business, search Aressted Development on Torrentspy.com - very fast downloads, they're all there, and in great widescreen format.

If not, search them on Limewire. they're there.

Enjoy man

yea it was a different marta. I am guessing the actress who played marta II probably couldnt come back or it was just another joke about the switching of actresses.

Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't clear. I understand it was a different actress from the other 2, what I meant was if it was a joke on the fact that they had 2 seperate Martas and that this one was the same "Marta" or if Michael is now just drawn to hispanic women named Marta. And now that I've described the hell out it, why even bother, eh?

And, I'm sorry, but aren't we all missing the most important bit from the ep? Fuckin' FRANKLIN was back. Fuck yeah, White Franklin. Fuck yeah.

"Arrested Development." The funniest show on television is all but dead. There's no official announcement yet, but all the signs are there, and if this short-lived thing of beauty even manages to deliver half of a season, consider that a sanctioned-by-Rome miracle.

The ratings are abysmal. Fewer than 4 million viewers, which puts it in cable territory. Despite what may have been one of its funniest episodes ever in the first week, nobody watched. This past Monday, even fewer people watched. So much for Emmy power. So much for Charlize Theron as a cameo draw.

Blame? Easy. Fox moved the series from Sunday to Monday, which was: (a) stupid, (b) a planned assassination or (c) all of the above. The network barely promoted the night switch -- a killer for viewers, especially those trying to sample 30 new series -- and sure enough, "Arrested Development" drew fewer viewers than last season. Worse, once on Monday, the series got almost no push. Now, there's one more episode before Major League Baseball pre-empts the show -- and Fox will air "Prison Break" repeats in that slot for a bit after that and before, ahem, bringing back "Arrested Development."

Yeah, that'll happen. Enjoy next Monday's episode. Chances are, everything after that will be dubbed "the lost episodes" on the next DVD. Here's how things get worse for Fox: "Kitchen Confidential" is also dying on Mondays. That means Fox hasn't been able to launch a decent sitcom in some time, and, no, "The War at Home" on Sundays doesn't count. If you watch that, you deserve it.

But it's true that the audience always decides. Always. And if it doesn't want "Arrested Development" but gloms onto the asinine "War at Home," three things are in play here: (a) Nielsen families have lame taste, (b) we get the television we really deserve and (c) most damning, the theory of sophisticated urban viewers is out the window. San Francisco was the 27th-ranked market for "Arrested Development." New York, Los Angeles and Chicago all tied for 21st. And Boston was 45th. So much for savvy. Let's move to Portland, Ore., -- it was the No. 1-ranked market for "Arrested Development."

I didn't miss it thanks to TiVo, but I'm still trying to get used to not watching AD on Sunday nights.
