Arrested Development Season 3 - Page 2

GOB's "pigs in a blanket!" line about having to share a sleeping bag showed up as "Get ready for some sword fighting, pal!" on the Closed Captioning. Guess FOX wouldn't let them away with that one.

Lindsay's ringtone was the show's theme song. I want one.

Also, LOVED that after the 1990's flashback with Lucille off her medication, she says "I must have gained three pounds!" and suddenly you realize that being off her meds didn't make her say "good for her!" about the mom who murdered her kids; being off her meds made her eat that cupcake while watching the news.

Wonderful episode.

amazing.

Simply amazing.

They havent lost their touch. Each scene was so full of jokes within jokes within jokes. I loved it.

I too loved the "in the next arrested dev." segment.

I am going to miss Barry Zuckercorn big time. Easily Henry Winkler's best work since fonzy. I loved how they showed Barry's assistant/son answering the phone in his fishing gear waiting to for barry.

I fucking love this show.

Incredible.

Period.

I think my favorite line was, "Maybe you'll rub off on her for once."

That or, "and hey, [the sun]'ll appear closer this way, too".

And I'd also like to point out that his name IS in fact steve HOLT.

No "z".
Man, they came out SWINGING.

Joke-for-joke, I'd stack that episode up against almost anything from season two. Just relentlessly funny.

Is lucille trying to kill buster with a camera tripod supposed to be a bob crane joke? the whole time i was watching it, i kept thinking of the end of auto focus. it just seems strange that of all the things she could be holding, its a camera tripod.
Just reading through these posts make me remember how incredibly amazing the opener was.

Kreizler: Gob's hopes is what makes the photo for me. Great find.

Oh man, how I would have killed to hear Gob say that sword fighting line.

I would download that ringtone as well.

Thanks for mentioning that about Lucille. I didn't catch that at all. There's just so much going on in this show. It's so brilliant.

I don't know about all that, but Lucille's "That's a freebie" line cracked me up.

I already have the Arrested Development music as a ringtone. Created a midi and infared it to my phone last year.

God, that had me on the floor. I had actually forgotten how great this show is.

I loved when they cut back Tobias retelling the break up that he had his shirt up.

The zoom-in on Blueman George Sr., and his eyes open, like in some old haunted house movie or something!
Such a great season opener, so many callbacks, but brings the funny for new viewers.

Tobias:"You've got Blue paint in you're hair!"
Kitty:"Face it Tobias it's over, so take a good look, because it's the last time!"
Tobias:"Those are blue too!"

When he did that my fiance looked over at me with a "you've got to be kidding me" look.

Also loved the payoff with the mother getting out of the car and it started rolling down towards the lake.

The relentless mocking of Reno's motto had me cracking up.
Oh, it was hilarious... another classic installment... I'm really curious as to see where this STEVE HOLT! thing goes.

Ratings are apparently half that of when it was in the Sunday night slot, confirming my hatred of the general populace.

From Zap2It.com:

Quote:
The first end of the "MNF" doubleheader between the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints (the game was rescheduled because of Hurricane Katrina) scored a 10.9/17 for ABC at 8 p.m. The debut of "Surface" on NBC took second at 7.1/11, just beating "The King of Queens," 6.9/11, and "How I Met Your Mother," 7.2/11, on CBS. The WB grabbed the No. 4 spot with the season premiere of "7th Heaven," 3.8/6. A move to a new night didn't help FOX's "Arrested Development," which combined with the series premiere of "Kitchen Confidential" averaged only 2.9/5 for the hour. UPN trailed with "One on One" and "All of Us."
AD won't be competing with football next week, so maybe that'll precipitate a bump.

And if you watched King of Queens, FUCK YOU.

Michael: "I almost had Pop Pop back in Reno".
George Michael: "Me too".

GOLD.

Say, did anyone notice the position of the blue handprint on Kitty's head? I didn't catch it at first, but while thinking of it later, laughed uproariously. If someone can find a screenshot...

Agreed. What's even sadder is that Carmen Electra will never get that Emmy.

Also: The counter on Oscar's site is at 42, and he's had 42 posts...

I'm so pissed; I got stuck at work on Monday and missed it. If anyone lives on Long Island and has it on tape, and wants to come over, I'll make S'Mores . . . . . .

Oh man, I didn't fully comprehend the joke until my friend reminded me of the episode last season where Michael thought that George Michael referred to sex as "Pop Pop." Comedy gold indeed. The fact that this show is so consistent with what happens from season to season is just absolutely amazing.

For those that don't remember:

George Michael: I have Pop-Pop in the attic.
Michael: What? The mere fact that you call making love “Pop-Pop” tells me you’re not ready.
Well, the show got one new viewer. Although I missed all of the ties to other seasons; there was great stuff all around that show, I absolutely loved it! They had me at VolvO!

This is kinda sad, but when the rescue vehicles started pulling up to Flight 292 yesterday, I spotted the staircar and couldn't help yelling "Watch out for hop-ons!"

You thought that too? Awesome.
I'm so conflicted with the new timeslot, they seem to be getting away with most everything, and it appears Fox has enough faith in AD to have it as an anchor for it's monday block, which is nice.

But seriously, if they wanted AD to have strong ratings, why not put it after one of the billions of weekly American Idols?

"That'll be fifty dollars...."
My pants were sticky after that group 'Chicken Dance'. Still are in fact.
Yeah, the group chicken dance rocked.

I was really hoping to see Andy Griffith. If I don't see Andy Griffith this season I'll be sorely dissapointed. I'll settle for no less now.

"Oh I can just taste those meaty leading man parts in my mouth."

I missed the "next time on Arrested Development..." bit. Hope they just dropped it this week for the Bond ending.

"We're not here to talk nonsense to Bob Loblaw. "
Indeed, I almost choked on my supper at the group chicken dance. Amazing.

This was just the second episode of the season, right? I felt like I'd missed something with that extended recap intro. Weird. Whatever the case, another great episode.

Bob Loblaw is an incredible name.
It was clear they were using alternate takes for expository reasons. After such a shitty ratings outing last week, i guess they were just filling in the gaps for new viewers (one can only pray).

But yeah, those alternate takes were kinda jarring. that whole first act, i couldnt get into the episode's groove.

lastly, i think that that acquiesce on Micahel's part (by way of Ronnie Howard) that had he actually been Jack the Ripper, he'd take out his anger in a very unseemly way was one of the funniest thigns i've ever seen. It was just that easy progression to unspeakable murder that i found so hilarious.
This show is back in full effect. Very funny.

From Michael (Jason Bateman) to George Bluth (Jeffrey Tambor):

"You're a regular Brad Garrett."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHHHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAH.

BWAHAHA.

HA.
It's a rarity, but I found myself entirely disappointed by that episode. It could be that it was stacked against last week’s all-time-great, or a simple lull in writing, but there was something decidedly off about this past one. Hopefully the new British storyline will pick up in the next few weeks.

Though I will concede, Tobias' B-story and that Rumsfeld gag were very very funny.
The Brad Garrett joke, Buster smelling the hand, "More touching," the hint of Bob Loblaw, "meaty leading man parts in my mouth," the Rumsfeld dig...awesome episode. Not as good as last week, but by no means bad.
This show was fucking ON FIRE today.

The "Live ins" line was great.

Buster's hand.

Brad Garrett.

Of course 3 way chicken dance.

Tobias' important "TV" opportunity. And Ron howard said something like, "and tobias went to a costume store a few years earlier than expected" or something like that which was also very funny.

GOB was genius as well...possibly one of the greatest quotes ever:

Michael: Maybe its love you're feeling?
GOB: I know what an erection feels like Michael! Its like my heart is getting hard.

What is the deal with the british section of the OC? Is that an obscure reference to little britain, the comedy group, or is it some other inside joke?

I thought that britain in the oc thing was a little over-the-top, even for AD, and as some others said, it kinda ruined the whole show for me.

And the first ten minutes were WAY too rushed, plotwise; Suddenly george sr is under house arrest, not to mention the wholely different recap/intro to the show. I mean, the whole first five minutes were like a different version of the end of last weeks ep.

Very weird.

I think everyone in america just let a out a collective, exasperated, "-YES."

I mean, come on, if the new pres has such faith in the show, why put it on at 8, with literally no lead in, and a third of the working force still on their commute home? And pairing it with two brand new shows doesnt seem to inspire much faith in fox, from me.

I think the bottom line with this show is that it might be too smart for america. (not the humor, but the devices they use to make the jokes arent often crystal clear, like in most comedies)
i thought the "wee britain" thing was funny personally, but agree that the beginning was poorly done. it was an obvious attempt to make a show that more than any other comedy i can think of requires having seen what came before accessible to new viewers. i hope at this point fox realizes that unless they put it on after House or American idol as was previously suggested, there arent going to be many new viewers, and somehow makes peace with this. one of the things that makes the show so great is how rewatchable it is, and how rewarding it is to loyal viewers, and id hate to see them starting to "dumb down" the show so people can just tune in whenever.

Still though, great episode. One of the jokes I loved was after George Sr. called orange county "the OC" Michael's embarassed "Don't call it that." Also, the casting of obvious non-Brits as Brits I thought was hilarious.
Frankly, I like the idea of having a recap before the show leads in only for the sake of helping new viewers, which this show desperately needs, to catch up.

As far as the alternate/extended takes, if you guys remember the "next time on AD" segments that usually follow most episodes use extended takes/alternate takes/deleted scenes from either the episode that just finished or upcoming episodes. Very often the scenes that they tease, never occur on the next AD.

It was kind of weird questioning your own memory of events from last week's episode, but the gist was the same, they just added a few more layers with the recap placing george Sr. back at home. I too found it a bit rushed, but mostly because I was wondering what the hell happened to oscar, and why george sr. didn't mention him at all.

Also, one other great scene was when george sr. was brought back and lucille jumped on him he says "take me back to prison" and michael responds by saying "MORE TOUCHING"

Also, george: "in prison at least you just had to close your eyes and take it, but here you have to close your eyes...and give it"

"I thought he was the guy who played the Soup Nazi! I told him how much I admired his work."
Seemed like the second half of the episode took a long time to pace itself.

Still pretty solid though. Some great laughs.

This was the impression I got of that strange recap opening:

Fox is known for airing AD out of order sometimes to fit their personal needs. The last episode of season one wasn't even aired during the first season. I got the sense that they skipped over an episode, which dealt with George Bluth agreeing to be under house arrest (and I'm guessing that explained more about Gob's relationship with STEVE HOLT!). They probably wanted to get to a Charlize Theron episode quickly for the star power. So, they tacked on that expository opening so it wasn't completely insane. If I'm right, then God knows what they're going to do with that missing episode.
I assumed the Little Britain thing was a joke, based on the obvious backlot set that the studio has.
