Scream 4

Seems that a SCREAM 4 may be on the horizon (surprise, surprise):

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11016

I think the series should be left as is, but if there's actually a script as good as the first two films and a strong story that Craven can actually work with, then I say go on with production. But I honestly don't know where else this next film could go without turning into an uncreative nightmare that SCREAM 3 was resembling throughout its runtime.

Something I didn't know until today: SCREAM 3 was NOT written by Kevin Williamson, which gives him a few brownie points if he should come back to pen the script for the fourth film. However, he was responsible for the atrocity that's CURSED, so maybe his return isn't such a hot idea.

Frankly, I was hoping Craven would stick to the thriller genre for his next project after the excellent RED EYE. Another Hitchcockian film sounds much more appealing than another slasher fest.

Notice that the article says nothing about Craven's involvement.

NOTHING at all? Really?

Did I just imagine reading this?:

Wes Craven told attendees that he recently had breakfast with Neve Campbell, who said she had recently spoken with the Weinsteins about coming back for Scream 4. Campbell apparently is seriously considering playing Sidney Prescott again in the highly-profitable franchise.

At the very least, one can assume Craven might play the role of producer, but considering that he's directed each and every film in the series thus far, that assumption is grasping for thin air.

If there's a SCREAM 4, I can bet my entire DVD collection he'll be in the director's chair. I don't think Neve Campbell would even agree to come back if he wasn't.

The only thing it says is that he had breakfast with Neve Campbell. She's the one who's talking sequel.

After the debacle of Cursed, I doubt Craven will have anything to do with the Weinsteins ever again.

That may be so, but Craven obviously is involved in the film in some capacity. Why would he be meeting with Neve if he wasn't intending on being a part of the production?

That would be a wise move on his part. There was a decent movie somewhere in CURSED.

Royalties.

How is it obvious? There's nothing in that story to say he's involved. If Spielberg has breakfast with Drew Barrymore, does that mean he's obviously directing ET Part 2?

To have breakfast. Because they're friends. Maybe she wanted his blessing to do Scream 4 without him. Maybe they were both in town and wanted to catch up. Maybe they're having a steamy affair. Maybe Craven gets residuals from any sequels, like Carpenter and Halloween.

Any one of those is more likely than Craven working with the Weinsteins again.

I'm not one to beat a dead horse, and we'll just have to agree to disagree, but if Spielberg had breakfast with Drew ABOUT E.T. II, then I'd assume he'd be involved in that film in some capacity, too, probably as executive producer, going by his history.

Points taken.

Craven didn't have breakfast with Campbell ABOUT Scream 4. He said he had breakfast with her, and that she said she'd been talking to the Weinsteins about Scream 4.

If Craven was talking about Scream 4, wouldn't he have said "Me and Neve had a meeting about Scream 4"?

Eh.

You're right. I read the article again, and I misread it originally. I thought they had a meeting about the film.

I'm usually an efficient reader...I'll just take the easy way out and blame the late nite hours on my mistake. And the fact that my brain cells were drained from sleep deprivation.

IndianSummer should take over the Corner.

All this specualtion is beside the point. The big question concerns what they had for breakfast.

I believe Craven stated recently that his next two projects are a romantic comedy and another thriller, but he wasn't sure which would get made first.

Great news. I'll be honest and say that I'd take a Craven-directed thriller over a romantic comedy, but I think he has the talent to churn out a worthy romantic comedy if he has the quality script and cast backing him up.

Looks like Neve won't be back for SCREAM 4 after all:

But the Arquettes might be...........................................how sad.

It seems to me this franchise was bankrupt with "Scream 3".

Without no Sidney Prescott, there's no SCREAM. Her character and connections to the colorful supporting cast in the trilogy is what made these films worth the price of admission (well, the first two, at least). I personally loved what Neve brought to the role. She made it all her own: sensitive, but fierce; loyal, but very aware of her surroundings; not invincible, but willing to have the fight of her life.

As for the Arquettes, they’d be better suited for a future Addams Family sequel.

I think this is an awful Idea! The story is run to the ground.
