The Future of Porn

I've been wanting to discuss this for a good while, because it's something that kind of bothers me. I like porn, it's been good to me when I've been bored or just looking for a laugh, or just feeling pervy, but perusing the internet in times such as those has me turning up stones with increasingly gross inhabitants.

I'm not getting on any moral high horse (I don't think I'd even know these sites if I had one), but it does give rise to the question of how far will all of this go?
Not too long ago I created a thread about a "Seppuku fetish" that's picking up steam, and it made me think about the above listed porn genres, and how it seems to me like we're racing towards the kind of thing that sells in the Japanese market place, which is an icky presentiment to be sure.

Porn can be and often has been defended as art, and I certainly don't disagree with this, but I don't think I could sit in the same room with Max Hardcore and not feel just a bit disgusted.

In my opinion people have been into weird and/or disgusting shit since the dawn of time. Thanks to the internet all this stuff is just more accessible to the common man.

Exactly, the only trend that seems to be increasing is the annoying trend of somehow disrespecting the girl during or after sex, which really turns/pisses me off.

I guess I should have made myself more clear. I'm very familiar with the Sadean aspects of pornography (particularly in French Surrealist literature) but as Milkyway mentioned, the increasingly violent misogyny in modern porn is growing beyond the pale.

My problem with porn is this. A porn film will start and I find that I'm really interested in the movie and I can't wait to see what will happen next. Then, after about 10 or 15 minutes (sometimes 2) the film hits a point where I just get really bored and could care less about the rest of it and I turn it right off. The porn industry should figure out how to fix this problem with their films.

I'm not a big watcher of porn anymore, it just got too skanky for my tastes.

I have no desire to vist some rich, fat, ugly, old fart's website that has movies of him boneing some poor, cranked-up teen runaway prostitute he drug in off the street. A new girl every week. Yahoo.

Every guy with a digital video camera and little cash can have his own amature porn site. Most of these wouldn't be worth the click of a mouse to see for free, much less $19.95 a month.

Every so often I'll see a porn star like Tera Patrick come along and I'll track down some of her stuff, but after awhile they get bigger implants, doing triple anal, doing 10 partner gang-bangs, and I lose interest.

Porn done right can melt your TV screen. There just isn't much made like that anymore.

yep you nailed it. another examples: v. zemanova and aria giovanni doing some fisting. some busty polish used to grab my attention for some weeks too.

some authors like Martin Amis did some research at the genre (ala HBO Real Sex I guess) and later lost all the interest.

I'm going to campaign at my university for a 'Porn 101' film class. I know a couple of guys who are trying to make a porno, don't think they're having much luck.

Can you imagine a lecture on porn film semiotics? "The image of a swollen labia is indicative of repressed feelings in the protagonists".... "The up-and-down movement here is a sign of the instability of the character's lives".... "here we see a girl-on-girl threeway, displaying classic Kurosawa-esque triangular composition".
