Need excuses for university petition please

I've been reading CHUD Message boards for years now but I have hardly ever posted before, but today I reach out to you all with the hope that you can help me with writing a petition letter to my university. The reason for the petition is that I dropped 3 courses last semester, a week after the official deadline date, thus leaving my record with three failing grades. This in turn means I am being forced to withdraw (for the second time, because I'm an idiot) and I need to write to the university to explain why I dropped the courses after the deadline. Alas, the truth is not an option because I laziness and stupidity is not a permissible grounds for an exception to be granted. I cannot for the life of me think of an excuse that I could use without using supporting documents. If I try to use an illness or death excuse, then I'm fairly certain supporting documents will be requested to corroborate my story. So if anybody has got any excuses that might help, I'd really appreciate it. Now I've been on the boards long enough to know that I should expect some hilariously witty responses but I ask some serious responses also be posted, as I really want to stay in school! Thanks.

It doesn't actually sound like you want to stay in school.

Sounds to me like you're just going to have to deal with being lazy. Lying to the board isn't going to make things any better. Next time try taking classes that you actually want to attend.

This is utterly pathetic.

I left school for a few years and just came back, however I was a bit over zealous and took more courses then I could handle. In short, I do want to stay in school, but I made a stupid mistake(dropping courses late) and am hoping your suggestions will help.

Help you what? Lie to the school administrators so you can slink back to your lazy routine without consequence?

Thank you all for your opinions. I said I was lazy because I missed the deadline date by a week(my mistake because I did not research the deadline date) but I sincerly wanted to do well in school and thus dropped a few courses, not due to a generally lazy personality but because I could not manage that many courses. While I believe that to be a valid reason to have dropped the courses, I have only my stupidity for missing the actual date and I don't have a specific reason(which the university has compelled me to provide) for missing the deadline. IMO missing a deadline by a few days should be excusable (especially since I was already penalized by keeping the money I paid for the courses) but thats just my opinion. I realize it wasn't wise to post here but I'm in a bit of a panic and so maybe it was a pathetic move. Again I respect what you all have said but I suppose I have to suck this one up and try to handle it on my own. Thanks anyways.

State you have a substance abuse problem, and are now seeking professional help. The ultra-left elitist liberals that make up the university system in America will sound off with a collective “Awwwwww…” of sympathy and proceed to tell you about all of the available programs provided by the university to aid you on your recovery. Then they will assign you a tutor to aid your scholastic advancement, clear your failed grades, hand you $1000.00 in cash and a new, energy saving, “hybrid” car.

Next time get off your slacker, Gen-Y, “Entitlement Generation”, ass and go to class.

I work at a University. Don't lie. Tell them straight out. This was my first time that I had to withdraw, I did not know the deadline policy even though I am aware that it was my responsibility to know the policy, I over extended myself, and I am a returning student. Tell them you are not asking for the money back you would just like to have the grade changed to a withdrawal. Explain to them your serious academic and career goals. Often a well-written sincere petition will be accepted especially the first time around. Start out direct and to the point. An honest acceptance of responsibility will actually be refreshing for the registrar to read. You really have nothing to lose by writing the petition.

Frankly I find it a little hard to believe that the rest of you sanctimonious bastards have never had to ask for consideration before in your academic or work life.

When I do (and I have) I didn't go to a message board and ask for lies/excuses to use. I came up with them my own self. So there. :P

Oh, I've had to, believe me. But I bellied up and was honest about it. I didn't try to pull some fake bullshit to garner pity from the board by lying to them. I said, up front, that I screwed up, and that I was asking for another chance. I sure as hell didn't ask someone else to help me come up with lies to tell them, either. I also didn't make the same mistake TWICE in a row.

So if that makes me sanctimonious, then so be it.

Like Helix said, Aine, we aren't busting the guy for needing consideration. We're busting him for trying to scam people like yourself. And anyway, I gave him the same advice you did.

Seriously, if I was in a jam, the last people I would turn to for help would be this bunch of social retards.

Er, no offense.

"None taken."

Hey the best option in this situation is just to come clean with the board,be honest, and throw yourself on the mercy of the court. Chances are they are very experienced on detecting bullshit scams.

How weird someone who works at a university sounds just like the "ultra-left elitist liberals" in charge I mentioned.

How very,very strange.....

How weird that you sound like a libertarian moron that dropped out of high school.

How very, very strange.

I thought I came off too Right-Wing actually, but you nailed the Libertarian part correctly. My masters degree in Computer Science does takes offense at the latter part of your comment, though. Six years of higher education gave me a healthy does of contempt for the University community, and drinking at the professional level gave me contempt for those who couldn't party and still get to class.

Glad you were honest enough yourself to go to the Board with your own shortcomings.

Yes...how very strange that honesty and consideration, at least the attempt at those qualities, are seen as ultra-left elitist liberal qualities. I am sure the next binge will convince you that you got where you were without help from anyone.

Reply to petition

I'd just like to report that my petition was successful. In the end my petition was fairly honest, but sort of believe the real moral of the whole situation isn't that honesty is the best policy(well in part it was) but rather a University will do anything to get paid(tuition).

Might as well start preparing for next time. I foresee another peition for you this time next year.

How about you shut the hell up and just be glad that they gave in to your ass. I mean a week ago you were desperate, now you're railing against the consumer based U.S. University system?

And did I seriously read someone in this thread call someone out for being a liberal? Cosmoline just spun in her/his/herish trailer.

With grammer like that it's no wonder you're flunking.
Anyhow, you're a disgrace to the institution of higher learning and I hope your dormmate ass rapes you in your sleep.

You give him too much credit. The semester should end by the holidays, so the thread should be resurrected early January.

In the meantime, I vote for a name change from FrizztheWiz to FrizztheWeazel.
