New! Kitten! Attack!

We got a new cat yesterday. The kids have named her Lily. She is very bitey at this point, but I suspect at 7 weeks old it's the teething talking, and not some unholy force which makes her bite. I will have more pics up this evening.

I was just talking to my girlfriend about a future cat we might have named Lily. Weird.

When the Logan's Run gems on my daughter's hand turn red, you may have our cat.

Congrats on the new addition!

The kitten phase of owning a cat is always a lot of fun. It'll take her some time to learn from your reactions on how much force to use with the claws and teeth. Lily looks a lot like our cat Spooky when he was a kitten.

How did your kids choose the name?

'Spooky' was an easy choice for us. He was a stray kitten we found in our apartment complex at the time. When I brought him inside to give him some moist food, he slapped the open can out of my hand and it flipped over on the kitchen floor. He stood on the can and let out a series of the most demonic sounding growls you could imagine, making sure the world knew he was taking ownership. It was comical to see our other cats slowly backing away from him.

We try and pick traditional English or French human names for pets. My other cat is named Penelope. We started this tradition with stuffed animals and it has extended to pets. I am not even sure why, other than I wanted to avoid calling the things by the obvious names I suppose.

Heh. I won't deny that I buy into that origin theory about once a day.

Oh, okay. I just wondered if that name had some sort of significance for them.

They're so cute. Especially with a nice Sweet and Sour sauce and a Spring Roll.

half in, half out?

We got a new kitten a while back. It was a little calico cat from a stray who took up shack in someone's garage to have her kitties. She was supposed to be 6 or 7 weeks old when we got her but the vet said it was more like 4. She was taken away a little too soon, but she's ok. She adopted the rug by the toilet as her mommy and to this day she'll go there and pretty much melt. She gets a little drooly too. Normally she doesn't like to be pet very much (except by me, I'm her favorite) but when she's on her spot you can pretty much do anything and she'll just sit there drooling away. Cats are weird.

She's a girl, so of course I went and named her Steve. Go figure.

It does, she has a flower growing out of her back.

I remember when I was a kid and we'd get kittens, the names would be "Blackey" and "Snowy", or other characteristics about the cat. Well, when I was 9, I got a kitten and decided to follow the theme, and seeing as that kitten was the cutest thing I could think of, I named it "Gizmo". Also, she hates water.

Those pictures are great. I may have to go out and get a few badminton birdie things for my cats. Maybe they'd enjoy them too. Who knows.

They carry stuffed animals around the house. Gather them up in one spot, go out, come back, and they'll be all over the place sometimes. The older of the two cats is a bit looney. She'll walk around with a stuffed animal in her mouth whining. It's really odd. Like they're her babies. Odd indeed.

Gizmo was a great choice for your kitten!

One of our current cats was really hyper as a kitten. He didn't quite have the coordination needed to match his physical exploits but he was seemingly indestructible. After watching him running across the kitchen table and leaping toward the couch...only to come up about 6 inches short and slam into the side of the couch...
I decided to name him George (ala George of the Jungle).

I am thinking I spoke too soon about my cat not being a nexus of evil...here she is being interrupted in her attempt to drink my daughter's blood:

That's a great picture, and it almost fits with your signature as the caption.

Dammit, I want a fuzzy kitten now... My cat is getting to old to be cute and cuddly.

your cat is so cute. is that a persian cat?
very cute cat.. I hope it doesnt follow the path to hell my cat has taken.

If there is something wrong in the house, turns out our cat is the culprit.

1) Power outage of outlets in the bathroom. Cause? The cat turned the power off from the other bathroom by hitting a switch.

2) Toilet not working. Cause? The cat had rubbed against the water flow valve actually turning it off.

3) Clothes hamper shredded. Cause? The cat uses it as a sharpening tool.

4) Open Pantry Doors. Cause? That damn cat has learned how to open the pantry doors (that's where we keep her food).

I have no clue. We got her for free from someone we knew whose cat had kittens, so I am guessing she is a mutt. She has really long fur though!

The important thing is that Lily and her mom are both soon to be spayed, right?
